Wow, that looks fantastic. Exactly what Sonic 4 should have been. And exactly the people I'd want making it! Can't wait to play this. Hopefully there's a good amount of zones.

Yeah like 2017 didn't already have enough games. This game made me go through a sonic theme marathon for the last couple of hours, this is a day 1 for me.

Wasn't expecting something that looks and sounds this good, I'am keeping my expectations in check but Sega definitely has my attention.

I hope it's mostly new content. I don't understand why we're at Green Hill again. Wonder if this is a follow-up to S3&K, Sonic 4, or just a random assortment of levels to play through without any "story". Not that I want a story more complex then anything found in the classics. Just curious if this will be canon I guess.

I don't know...

This isn't really a way forward for Sonic. Even if the game's fantastic it's still an upfront nostalgia ploy. I know a lot of people have been waiting for this kind of thing to happen and I hope they enjoy their moment (assuming it's not another Sonic 4), but I've got my eyes more on how Sega want to solidify Sonic in the now rather than how many times they want to revisit 25 years ago to try and recapture that lightning in a bottle.

I'm excited, of course, and if it's a good game I'll definitely buy and play it. Just so long as this doesn't become the only thing that Sonic is if it succeeds and the new Sonic Project bombs.

If you're expecting something groundbreaking from the new Sonic 2017 game then I have some bad news for you. The last thing Sega needs is another Lost World and Rise of Lyric flop. 99% chance it's going to be exactly like they advertised: A Sonic Colors and Generations inspired 3D game.

Besides, the world really really needs a good 2D Sonic game. Its been years in the making. Those DS and GBA games never really done it for most fans of classic fans.

Eh, it is a way forward for Sonic. It's essentially what NSMB was for Mario. Nintendo moved the series into 3D, but the 3D gameplay was so different from the 2D gameplay that it was essentially a different franchise. Fans of 2D Mario were left high and dry until Nintendo decided to experiment and see if a continuation of 2D Mario could be successful. It was. Now both 2D and 3D Mario run as their own franchises.

With Sonic things are a bit different. Sega revisited 2D Sonic over the past 22 years since Sonic & Knuckles, however rather than try to continue 2D Sonic they kept reinventing the goddamn wheel, which they also did with 3D Sonic. Rather than 2 neat franchises like 2D Mario and 3D Mario Sonic's games are so different from each other that the Genesis games, Rush games, Sonic 4, and each of the Advance games individually are essentially their own style of games and with 3D you have Adventure style, Heroes style, Unleashed style, Lost World style.

This is like the first honest to goodness attempt to make a continuation of the Genesis games. It doesn't look like a pure nostalgia ploy. It looks like an attempt to move 2D Sonic forward the way it always deserved to be.

Sonic Mania is clearly a parallel project, but if the Sonic Team project turns out so bad that they have to scrap the Sonic Adventure derivatives and start again from the beginning then so be it.

Fuck I'm so excited for this. I was screaming and yelling like a little girl when this popped up on the stream. I don't care if this is a $60 release, I'm buying it day one. Hell I might even pre-order it.

And I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't hit NX or any Nintendo platforms. Sega has a weird way of sometimes supporting Nintendo and sometimes not, so I wouldn't be surprised if Sega didn't release this on a Nintendo platform at all.

If you pay attention you'll notice there's a few additions to GHZ1 - the player never really goes for them, but you can see glimpses here and there off-screen. (Possibly Tails/Knuckles routes?)

I'm hyped. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the first video game I ever played and I'm pretty nostalgic for the genesis games.

*High Five*

That title screen is hot fire.

This game...

It's...it's...perfect!

I never thought I'd say this again, but I'm officially excited for a new Sonic game.

Any explanation on why the devs chose the word "Mania"?
Hello Kitty was at the event.
Hello Kitty is a cat.
Cats eat mice.
Mouse is singular of mice.

Stealth Mickey Mania game announced!

Some proper direct-feed footage from Gamespot, complete with sound.

That's really nice remix of Green Hill Zone.

But is that first level straight up ripped from the original? It looks almost identical (minus the boss battle at the end). I wonder if it's like the way Nintendo recreated Super Mario Bros' 1-1 level in NSMB but changed everything else after.

This game looks great, but I'm still a little skeptical since this isn't the first time Sega attempted to "return to Sonic's roots". I don't think I need to remind everyone of Sonic 4...

That Studiopolis song, too, hhnngg.

Lights. Camera. ACTION.

Act 1 seems to share the same layout as the original, though much of the art is redone and there seems to be some alternate routes you can see glimpses of that weren't in the original. It's also possible (likely?) it goes on past the end of the original, since the original level is very short. The trailer showed footage of other areas of GHZ that were absolutely not in the original.

Looks ace but WHY NO NINTENDO SYSTEMS!?? So pissed off right now for that :'(

No NX officially revealed, the timing is perfect for a launch game.

As for Wii U...its probably easier to port this to whatever NX is, and Nintendo would prefer that,

anyways, this looks "ok", not the next generation Sonic i expected

Problem is, Sonic Team's new 2017 project has an NX logo at the end of its trailer.

So, Mania might not be coming to NX after all. Or maybe Taxman and his team weren't given dev kits yet or something.

Was hoping for a 2d Sonic more like Generations, that game was so good.

Not me. Generations' 2D sections played like monkey doo-doo.

This is the best possible scenario as far as I'm concerned. As long as it plays well, I'll take any 2D Sonic. But the fact that it's being done in superior 16-bit glory is just icing on the cake.

Wouldn't be surprised. IIRC, they snuck in a couple of bonus areas & routes that could only be accessed by Tails and Knuckles in Sonic 1 Mobile.

But they announced sonic generations 2 for nx

You'd have a point if it was Dimps working on this game.
