Suicide Squad's box office business plunges just like Batman v Superman's did

As this has happened twice in a row now, I would hope from now on people:

-Do not dismiss RT scores

-Do not accept pre-release buzz on twitter as indicative of actual WoM

-Do not dismiss troubling Friday to Saturday drops on opening weekend

-Do not dismiss early rumors of trouble behind the scenes either with production itself or with test screenings.

I hope, but I just know this whole fucking cycle will repeat again with WW and Justice League.

They have amazing material to work from, why don't they use it?

You will have the dark and soulless movie universe and you'll like it.

lego batman isn't actually part of the DCCU though, right?

i mean, if it is a legit part of the DCCU, the other movies in that universe have to acknowledge / refer to it

but i think it will do AWESOMELY

only that it's not actually part of the DCCU :x

Well cross out lego batman from the board now!

doesn't matter. DC will take any film property that expands the brand and IP.

If lego batman does well (which it probably will), you will end up with yet more "lego" DC films and potentially two separate DC cinematic "universes." one animated, one not.

it doesn't matter who refers to who, only which is profitable.

im not opposed to this two different universes under one sphere (in this case, DC)

:>

nanananananananananananana batman~

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
In a lot of ways Marvel made their own reach. The rights to their most known IP's were with other studios (Spidey, Fantastic Four, X-men etc) so they made do with that they did have. They turned Iron Man from C-list hero (in the eyes of the public) into a beloved icon and billion dollar generating movie franchise. Plus obviously look at Cap, Ant-man and GOTG. So in theory DC should be able to do the same thing since they have iconic heroes both known and unknown.
When I first heard about an iron man movie I actually said who rhe fuck is this. I thought of ultra man and kept getting them mixed up.

From that and the at the time shocking casting of rdj, they gambled and it payed off big time.

it's really a shame disney has all the mindshare right now, it's going to be hard for other companies to promote a product in this space. kinda like windows/ie in the 90s. maybe the gov can step in and subsidize ads.

it's like mcdonalds vs a local start up specializing in fusion cuisine. consumers have been condition to accept a consistent but bland taste vs something more interesting that may not work in places.

Son, don't. You've opened the Gates of Hell and delusional Thor 2 fans are gonna run out and yell at you.

WB execs are fucking retards, they forget this movie exist, a dark comic movie can exist and do well, only if it's made well, they are trying to copy Disney/Marvel and it's a fucking failure, we don't need Marvel tone, DC has always been darker, get better people to work on your projects, not rejects who decided to build a universe based on a shitty superman movie..

Ya'll, it's "The Dark World" not Thor 2.

Anywhooo, after reading the thread, is it correct that this kind of drop off is normal? What is expected this weekend?

That's not what your tag says

The drop is a bit on the high side but nothing too overt considering it opened pretty large

well not to be rude but i am not sure i can trust the opinions of nonamericans wrt this subject.

:<

we have some semi-unmoisturized opinions on things too, you know~

It's not hard to see why someone super invested in the DC characters and universe would be upset that every movie they've gotten so far is worse than Thor 2, the Participation Ribbon movie of the MCU.

:> i see~ i'm quite amazed at the clockwork of it all, hahaha...

... it's almost pitiful, at some level .___.

It's more like two burger chains.

One serves burgers (nothing special, usually taste good) and the other serves dog shit fashioned into the shape of burgers.

I'd wait until full weekend estimates are out before writing Suicide Squad obituaries. Not because I think it will be a success, but opening Friday-second Friday comparisons aren't the best way to predict a blockbuster's long-term success.

I love how at first before BvS came out they were all gung-ho about how if we're impressed by the Force Awaken's BO record, we should wait until BvS came out because it'll destroy TFA and leave Civil War in the dust. lulz

After BvS came out though, it was all "Bu- but, Thor 2.....,", reviewers are shill, some weird-ass Lion King comic, and now McD analogy.

Holy fuck Avengers dropped more on its friday to friday than Suicide squad

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=daily&id=avengers2.htm

And yet i didnt hear anything on GAF about it

So its no longer about Percentages, but how much money each movie made?
Anything to move those goal posts.

It's really hilarious that a lot of people were celebrating/laughing that the movie would drop 70% in the second weekend and it most likely missed that, so here we are instead on the Friday-Friday drop ignoring the drops by other movies like you have pointed out.

lol

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
61%+ drops definitely seem to paint the bad movies.

SS just made me appreciate how good BvS was (and I disliked it). Mission accomplished.

edit: Also, Avengers 2 wasn't a good movie, so citing its Friday to Friday drop isn't helping SS's case.
