NX officially has the least time between reveal and release of any Nintendo platform

Apparently not. This is from her twitter with a link to your post.

I know people are desperate to discredit her, but comeon now

lol ouch.

I want to believe her. But we aren't going to if we should or not until it happens. She's been really clear about what it will be and when we will know. So I guess we'll know soon enough. No point in arguing about it now.

Yeah, I agree. Just seems silly to grasp at straws trying to discredit her. We'll know eventually.

You keep repeating that.

Why would anyone here be desperate to discredit her?

It's just the general attitude people have toward any of rumors or reports over all these threads and when people lie about what she has or has not said. Just feels like people take this NX stuff way too seriously.

If you guys have ever seen a projector, they are bulky and are like the size of 3 Wii U units duct-taped together.

I don't expect one in the NX hybrid unless it's displaying a very small image.

Ids habbeding, we're back to mixed reality projectors. This is what they mean when they said there is no camera on the device but could be on the dock. Why the hell would you have a camera on a far away dock instead of the device in front of you? Well because it needs to scan the room to project into. You want to do multiplayer with two detachable controllers even though you can't swing a wiimote three meters away from a tiny ass 6" screen and still see what the hell is going on? Well that's because you can stand three meters away and have the game projected around you silly!

this koolaid is going all the way down friends.

Didn't Samsung have a smartphone with a projector years ago?

Samsung has a projector on a phone a few years back, yeah it can work but it's very limited

The tech for small ones exist; they're just comparatively shitty and won't be included in the NX.

Wait, are people really entertaining the idea that NX has a projector? Why would it need that if it supposedly has a screen? Not to mention the cost of a feature.

What if... What if the secret of the dock is that it has a projector?...

lol never mind, it doesn't go with the portable ideas people had and the majority of people have HD TVs so I don't get what a projector could do at home that an HD TV couldn't besides a bigger screen.

There are some fantastic 1080p Pico projectors, you guys are behind the times. Of course it would bump the price by $40 at least so I don't see it happening, but it would definitely be a system seller idea

No problem just crank the graphics back down to 3DS levels in favor of including this feature, I'm sure gaf will understand.

I haven't seen it but it's news to me.

Annoyingly I can't get the patent pdf to open on my phone so I can't see what was so interesting in pages 44-50 someone mentioned.

Aren't picoprojectors a thing?

Also the figures on those pages are photographs of an image being projected onto an uneven wall with a bounding box drawn over them to represent how the image is being corrected. I can't get a link of the images yet but I'm sure someone will show them soon.

Edit: Yeah see rtrbad's post below.

I just looked it up.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handheld_projector

Interesting that it had a section on hand gesture recognition because that's what I was hoping I would find.

Remember we had another patent on projecting images with IR to do hand gesture recognition?

Hmm...

Hmm.......

Edit:

Now that looks pretty cool.

I don't know how it keeps happening but this fairly innocent thread is slowly drifting into crazy land again.

that projector idea sounds really cool

It all sounds a bit too expensive to me, but you never know. What's at least obvious (and nice to see) from all of these patents is the various areas of R&D they're into, and especially with this one we have photographs of the patented invention being used, which we rarely get.

Obviously that means they have these projectors and have implemented their stabilization invention, which isn't always guaranteed with their other patents which don't have photographs or any other explicit evidence of the invention in use.

Apple launches new devices with a 1 week turn around. That is the new normal for consumer electronics. It has always been kind of silly from a mass consumer standpoint to have huge gaps between announcement and launch, you are just letting hype die for most of your non-mainstream customers. If you announce with lots of hype and launch quickly after you get way more impulse purchases because no one has had time to let their excitement wear off. Add in some fake shortages and you can ride that hype time for months.

That works for Apple because their devices are stand alone.
With a game console, not only do you have to move the console, you have to move your 1st party games, and you want to move 3rd party games, not to mention accessories. It's complicated because there is a lot to juggle.
With a phone, what is there at most, a case, all extra apps software has to be downloaded anyway.

Also no one is subsidizing the purchase, so people need lead time to make sure they have the disposable income to spend on something like this.

Projectors that small are either low res, low lumens or big latency or all together. Besides bragging rights there's no justification to have a projector in a portable console. Stop this insanity.

Edit: patents are sometimes made also future proof, it doesn't mean that the tech is usable in practice in mass production in the present.

I don't know how long I can handle a thread that starts with "NX officially" floating around, I keep having micro-freakouts when I see it.

This is very likely, yes. I doubt we'll see projectors in the NX.

I really do expect to see something to do with image sensing and likely gesture sensing though. That has apparently occupied quite a bit of their R&D lately, so you'd expect one of their products to get a return on that investment.

Patents can't really tell us what will be in a product, but they do tell us what type of technologies Nintendo is investing time and money into.

After closing this thread, the next NX thread will be titled "NX officially exists".

I called to a fortune teller on TV, and she told me that.

I also asked her if could she tell me the NX reveal date, but she answered she couldn't, because she signed many NDAs some months ago.

There are already HD pico projectors on the market. Some of which are marketed for gaming devices.

The invention here is being able to adapt to the environment to ensure that it's always displaying the image correctly, if I'm reading it right.

Either way, it's an invention that really isn't that far fetched, though it would probably add cost to the final device and would likely be more suited as an addon than something built in. Still, it's interesting and kindof cool.
