Puyo Puyo Tetris coming to Americas and Europe

It's 29.99 on PS4 so it isn't like the Switch digital version is cheaper. Just the Switch physical version is more expensive.

Right, but it's still unusual for any version of a game to be cheaper than another on the same platform. Always hear that stupid argument that they don't wanna upset retailers (which I personally don't care about, retailers piss me off plenty, let them die)

$10 more for the physical Switch version is disappointing. I like going physical on my consoles. I guess with GCU or Amazon Prime it's nearly the same.

I managed to preorder this for €29.95 instead of 39.95 because the shop I ordered from isn't very smart and priced PS4 and Switch versions the same :D.

Edit: I just noticed that they actually priced the PS4 version at 39.95 now, Switch is still 29.95

I truly want to go all physical on the Switch just like on the WiiU. But having this digital and with me at any time sounds really, really good!

No digital on PS4 is fucking stupid. No purchase.

Unfortunately, it's not up to them. You can thank The Tetris Company for its weird licensing guidelines and Ubisoft being the benefactor of said guidelines, in addition to finding a way to fuck up something as simple as Tetris.

Isn't it some Tetris license issue that it isn't digital on PS4? Still dumb...I'm getting it on switch for the portable play but I dont think of Tetris as a physical game. Just want to load it off my system and play.

Yeah, the only reason that we are getting a PS4 release of any kind is because The Tetris Company apparently treats the physical market and digital market as separate entities for licensing purposes.

I'll buy the PS4 version to support the series, but will likely spend most of my time with the Switch version as I prefer my puzzle games portable whenever possible.

What's so good about this game? Isn't it just tetris?
Certain Japanese versions of Tetris are quite a bit better with increased speed, wall kicks, rotation rules, etc.

This will be the best version of Tetris released in America. Also, you get puyo and an excellent vs mode with online play.

Does anyone know what kind of control options you have in this game? I've been playing the demo and I hope I can map hard drop to a different button in the full version.

I tried the demo on Switch, and besides the crazy japanese voices i don't find this game particulary good, the demo is already enough for me when i want to play a quick match or play with some friend sharing the joycons

Eurogamer =/= $

Price in Europe is €39.99/£34.99 on the Switch digital and physical, €29.99/£24.99 on the PS4.

Do we know if they are not going to fix the euro price as well? US price is also still marked at $39.99. And most prices have dollar to euro 1:1 parity. And lets not forget it's now easy to buy from other eShop regions.

Regardless, the Eurogamer article wasn't euro-centric in how it demonstrated that the Switch games price will/should be more expensive than in other consoles.

Instead it was just generally instilling fear in Switch buyers and potential Switch buyers based on exactly ONE developer stating increased costs - without ever showing evidence of too expensive cartridge costs (cartridges have been used since ever in portable Nintendo consoles without such issues) - and may instead just reflect the normal initial costs of starting to develop for a new console; together with the fact that it's not an unheard practice of having slightly higher prices for games on new consoles that lack much competition in the games department yet. All this paired with the fact that Eurogamer took the chance for the cheap shots at Nintendo in the same article (console is also too expensive anyway, Mario Kart 8 is an expensive port, etc) it all just feels like a bunch of Eurogamer baloney.

The PR release for the USA & Europe was different, the American always said that it would be cheaper digitally while the European had it with the same price on digital and physical.

It makes perfect sense that the physical version of a game for the Switch has a higher cost than PS4 and X1 as while publishers can burn their disks at any number of factories (more competition, lower prices), the Switch card can only be done by Nintendo so they have to pay whatever prices they want and a blu ray disk is definitely more inexpensive than flash media.

It's not the first time this happens, back in the N64 days, N64 games were ridiculously more expensive than the CD based games.

Eurogamer is still one of the most respectable gaming media sites in the world, they don't take cheap shots at Nintendo. All those "cheap" shots are valid concerns that you have been repeated multiple times.

The Switch is the more expensive handheld console ever launched in Europe and America, 80€/50£/50€ more than the Vita which was already considered a very expensive console at launch, MK8 is a port at full price 3 years after the original release and there were tons of complaints by costumers when the exact same thing happened on the Wii U launch and Super Bomberman being too expensive for the type of game it is has been mentioned by everyone.

No digital on PS4, no buy. I'm getting used to getting my PS4 games digitally.

It has already been covered, but please reconsider if you are actually a fan of either Puyopuyo or Tetris. The reasons for this not having a digital PS4 version (which are the same reasons we never received this on PS3 or 360 at all, presumably) are beyond Sega's control, and having this sell well beyond expectations are the most practical way to make those reasons come to an end. Sales for this title are also going to be a direct measure of how much interest there is going to be for Puyopuyo, and puzzle games in general, in the future and could be the deciding factor in whether new titles in the series get developed.

I think there is a lot riding on the release and I think it would be a shame if circumstances not of Sega's doing are what sink it all.

I'm curious about this as well I hate that local multiplayer with joycons lacks hard drop (unless I just haven't found the button?).
The demo is getting serious play time on my switch and I'm probably gonna crack and just buy the Japanese version before the American release

Eurogamer is fear mongering based on those N64 days of 20 years ago. Didn't the 3DS use proprietary Nintendo cards? And the DS and the Gameboy Advance? What sort of magic happened now with the Switch cards that suddenly it's the N64 situation again just because the Switch is also a home console?

The Switch is more expensive than the Vita and it's on whole another level even comparably for time of release, so much that the power envelope it pushes needs a battery that's double the size of the Vita's for the same kind of battery life, and it needs active cooling when operating at full tilt. Furthermore it includes detachable bluetooth controllers (2 of them) and a docking/HDMI out solution right out of the box. It's more expensive but hardware-wise it's a quite higher value proposition, and that's why Nintendo is positioning it as a home console for now, as, of course, pure handhelds don't need all that and don't reach those prices - they still have the 3DS for that (which pound for pound I think offers a much less interesting value proposition than the Switch, hardware-wise).

Multiple games in the industry have been repacked soon after initial release for the following generation of consoles, at the same full price. GTA V and The Last of Us come to mind as recent examples. Don't think anyone batted an eye. Of course, they will see the extra value in those remasters, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also includes all the DLC + new stuff and better performance, it's now also a portable game, and it comes at a little bit under the full MSRP of Zelda for example. Again, I don't see a bad value preposition, as much as it can hurt for those double dipping (just like for GTAV and TLOU), although the Wii U didn't have great sales as we know, so for lots of people it can still be their first MK8 experience.

Sorry, I don't completely despise Eurogamer but I do think they push a bit of an agenda, which is ok - all media outlets do it in one way or another. I just choose to not always buy what they're selling.

Serious question, what is so good about Puyo Puyo Tetris?

-Puyo Puyo is the deepest action puzzle game in existence. Nothing comes close. It also hasn't seen an English-translated release in more than a decade.
-The game's featureset makes for one of the most loaded Tetris games in a very long time. (It's actually a downgrade for Puyo Puyo fans, but there's more than enough here to serve as a gateway for newcomers.)
-All of the polish and charm from the Puyo Puyo games are on full display.
-Your only other option for Tetris on modern gaming hardware is the abominable Tetris Ultimate.

The fact is what Eurogamer reported, as of today, is still completely true for Europe.
There isn't a single game for the Switch that's cheaper digitally.
You had someone who apparently is a developer claiming that Switch cards are expensive in the Rime thread.
True that you can't believe in everything that people say on the internet but once again, everything seems to point to what Eurogamer said, at least in Europe.
Maybe Nintendo America doesn't enforce the same rules of Digital = Physical, we don't know but Eurogamer has a good track record with this sort of thing.
