Switch version has been updated, Rumble is now fine. It seems graphics were also updated.
In what mode? Not undocked from what I saw.

I'm a father of a young daughter, and when I am "actually spending time" with her, I don't think ignoring her to stare at a screen in my hands counts. As it is, my wife and I try our hardest not to be on our phones during family time. If you are playing a video game instead of interacting with the kid, you aren't "participating" imo. And that's fine, just weird you would sound so judgmental about other parents while giving this example....
I'll check later. On reddit many say it's also sharper in handeld mode: https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/62e4tk/snake_pass_updated/?st=J0WNDDUN&sh=34a68619In what mode? Not undocked from what I saw.
Um, this part is pretty damn weird to say I'm not gonna lie. If you are talking about playing games WITH your kid, you can literally do that with any console or PC out there, the Switch is no different.
Yeah, wait till they grow up a bit, or you have a couple more.... you'll soon get over that
Yes. Also if you have the same attitude for your wife, then your game time is seriously limited. You work, go home and take care of kids, then spend time with your wife when they sleep. And then at last play when she sleeps. That's when a handheld becomes a blessing as a parent. You can find more game time during the day.Agree 100%.
As a father with multiple young kids, ages between 6-17, boys and girls, its either me playing with them or watching them play on the big screen.
And I dont have a Switch yet.
I cant really devote any time to playing by myself and watch them or be with them at the same time.
I also can agree with this ...lol Its tricky...

You know, I think they probably made the decision to drop from 900p to 864p on the PS4, 720p to 675p on Switch docked and 480p to 475p on Switch undocked to add AA because it improved the IQ more than those extra few pixels could have. It also probably was slightly easier to push a more stable framerate this way as well.
That could be a pretty fair trade off for those debating these resolutions vs AA usage, I don't think the small bump to pixels at sub native resolutions would have changed much here, I do think if you can do native resolution, it is probably better than using AA, though if it was 675p /w AA undocked vs 720p and a slightly less stable frame rate /no AA, the choice was probably small enough to go with the more stable frame rate.
Rendering settings definitely changed on Switch after the patch. I wonder if DF will retest?
DF tested the patched version before we mortals had it.Rendering settings definitely changed on Switch after the patch. I wonder if DF will retest?
DF tested the patched version before we mortals had it.
They say something like "we are testing the patched version which should be going live very soon, the current one lacks things like DoF in cutscenes blablabla"
So no, they don't need to retest anything.
Thing is, it was announced to be 1080p on both platforms, not 900/720.
I'm still waiting on an explanation for this. This is not a small difference. It was supposed to be 1080p docked and 720p undocked. Now it's sub-HD docked and sub-Vita undocked? You can't not disclose such a drastic change before release and not be called out on it. I'm gonna need them to comment on this before I buy.
Let's compare the PPI of 844x475 on a 6.2 screen to the PPI of your average 1920x1080 24" PC monitor.
844x475 at 6.2" is 156 PPI
24" 1080p PC monitor is 91 PPI
Wow! how could this be? I was under the impression that such a resolution could never look good!
W-what? But I thought a 720p screen was unacceptable in 2017! What's this? How can the size of a screen possibly affect the resolution needed for it to look good? Impossible! Unacceptable! The screen should be 1080p! My phone is 1440p!
I am aware you sit much farther back when using a 50" 4k screen, but it doesn't remove the fact that the PPI on the Switch screen is perfectly good for its particular viewing distance
I like how one of the parts of my post you deliberately removed is the part in where I mention upscaling and antialiasing.LMAO.
Sub-native Vita resolution at 5" (Vita screen), which for many looked horrible. 165 PPI, where is your god now?
I've been gaming since the very early nineties and have yet to be convinced of how moving the experinece to a smaller, lower resolution screen, whilst limiting playtime to battery life and sitting hunched over your lap in a less private and more distraction-laden environment is a benefit.
That's just me though...
I guess that old claim that almost nobody on NeoGAF actually plays games is true, after all you are in the gaming section, posting on a gaming thread, telling people to stop gaming. From one dad to another: Here's a suggestion if you want to spend time with your kids; stop gaming and spend time with your kids!
Why I keep seeing mention of Vita in relation to Snake Pass? Is the game available for the Vita?
Some people refer to the res as sub-vita and there's another person who streams it to his vita. I'd imagine you saw one of those posts.
Amen to that. It's easy: become a parent.
Okay right but...the game isn't exactly running on the Vita hardware so I'm not sure why it's even worth bringing up.
You have to think like a snake.Just downloaded on Switch and pretty disappointed, someone mentioned the vasaline cover and I can see it, doesn't look sharp at all, especially compared to Zelda.
One niggle, not sure if it is me, but holding down ZR and the Snake hardly seems to move, am I doing something wrong?

I couldn't tell if this was a comparison video or an infomercial for the Switch.
It's a fantastic looking way to play it handheld if you've got the PC for it.
It looks better on vita than it does on my PC! I probably need a HDR OLED 4K g-sync monitor lol.
Might be better streaming to a phone, I'm not 100% sure, I've not had an issue with it on vita though. I absolutely love playing it like that, even more so after mapping the controls to the physical triggers and I'd totally recommend it.
Snake Pass is the sort of game you want to play on a handheld, and it's all about planning your next move, not reacting and controlling jumps.
I'm getting a <£20 ipega bluetooth controller with a phone mount to test out nvidia gamestreaming to my samsung edge+.
But it's completely inappropriate for this thread and this argument.
You're expecting the experience a $200 Vita and a $700+ computer offers in a $300 device? That's not reasonable.
How's it inappropriate.
Everyone is complaining about wanting to play it on a handheld but that the it looks bad.
This is a solution.

This thread is about comparing the performance of the game on a Playstation 4 and a Nintendo Switch, a $300/$400 console and a $300 handheld.
For you to mention the performance you're getting on your $700+ computer that's being streamed to a $200 handheld is irrelevant. The handheld isn't doing any of the heavy lifting.
You're saying it is strictly about a battle between the two and not about the best way to play snake pass.
What if handheld is running on pro mode now? Hmm.After today's patch:
I read that handheld mode now has much needed anti aliasing and depth of field and they added back some missing shadows,
Shovel Knight also released a patch that ups the resolution to 1080p on docked mode.
Good to know devs are getting over the learning curve of Switch
I'm pretty sure the thread title nor opening post doesn't mention PC performance.
And I'm not entirely sure your method of playing the game is subjectively the best way to go. Once you leave the house your Vita+PC method is going to have to contend with input lag, and if you're playing the game on PC hardware to begin with, why not output it to a television instead?
It's a neat sort of "Oh hey look what I can do" situation, but in the real world I don't think anyone would want to do it that way.
So the PS4 version runs not even at 900p ? If so the Switch has a very impressive performance in this game. Thought it was 1080p60 on PS4 but it seems that is on the Pro.
I don't think most people play their dedicated handhelds outside than they do at home.
Most people don't play their handhelds outside their home? What are you talking about?
I see people with 3DS's all the time on the subway.
Ok whatever, "not everyone just plays their handhelds outside"
Better?
Having to state the damn obvious guys.
You keep posting those gifs over and over like you're trying to prove some point.
Again, you're streaming the PC version of the game to a handheld system. No duh it's going to look the best, you're running the game on the most expensive hardware.
Not everyone knows the Vita can actually do this well and from PC, since it's not Sony approved.
My PC or Vita didn't cost me anything this gen/mid-gen whatever it is with ps4 pros, scorpios and switches..
