So minecraft on Switch is gonna be huge right?

Not if that $60 placeholder price for the physical version is real.
Pretty sure digital and physical Switch games are supposed to be the same price. I saw on the Nintendo web store the other day it was listed at $29.99 USD. Link isn't working right now for some reason.

So I doubt very much the physical game will be $60.

On topic —yes, this will be a huge hit.

Oh also, the PS4/One editions had a small upgrade charge if you had the PS3/360 versions. Does anyone know if they're doing the same for those who owned the Wii U version?

Will be the full fledged ungimped Minecraft on handheld for the first time, right. Yup, huge.

Wait... This will be the biggest MS game in first half of 2017 and it is on Nintendo system?

I can see $40 because reasons, but $60?

Yeah, that seems way too high, but it wouldn't surprise me if they tried to take advantage of thirsty Switch owners like other publishers are. An old port of Mario Kart is selling really well, so they probably figure let's try one of the most popular games of the modern age for $60 to see if we can get away with it.

Minecraft on Switch will sell a ton for sure.

But I mean, Minecraft is huge regardless.

Also, despite all the hits Nintendo puts out, I'm sure they wish they had come up with it. I don't eve make games and I wish I had come up with it.

I already have the OT created, by the way. Just waiting to post. It'll answer all the pertinent questions.

i guess

but i dont see why anyone would play this game not on a PC if they have the option to
This is portable while also easily played on the TV and can be played with your friends on the go, even splitscreen in tabletop mode.

That alone sets it part from the PC and pretty much every other version to different degrees.

Relevant question: How "big" is the 3072 square-block map size used in the Switch version? I've played a little Minecraft before and it seems like a great fit for Switch, but friends who play the PC version a lot say this is really small. $30 seems a little high for me as it is, so I would hate to buy and play for a bit and then quickly run into a wall.

Minecraft is huge no matter you play it.

Microsoft has made games for Nintendo platforms in the past. But minecraft was already a huge and universal franchise... why limit it after they bought it?

They're still putting it on other platforms because money

Theu did but They would be idots to keep as a exclusive.

All this.

IIRC it had an impact on Wii U so it should do well on Switch.

For all the people who mock Microsoft for spending $2 billion on Minecraft, that was probably the smartest investment a console manufacturer/publisher has ever done. Not only will they easily make the money back, but they will gain insane profits AND hold the IP for arguably the biggest game of our time.

The money they make from EDU, Youtube and the merchandise side is crazy and then you factor in Minecraft being the biggest game in competitor platforms like Vita and now Switch (well not biggest for switch, but it will be up there, quote me) and it's just bonkers.

And this is just the first game. Wonder what they'll use the IP for next.

Wait, I thought Microsoft bought this franchise? I'm confused.

They didn't spend billions of dollars to keep people from playing the game.

Btw isn't Minecraft usually $20?

I honestly don't remember anybody mocking MS. If anything, they were amazed at how big the game had gotten and how rich its developer was

Agreed.

I've been very curious since the acquisition if they will ever even make a second game or if they will just continually build upon whats already out. Either way I look forward to it.

Thank you. I guess it's middle-of-the-road for the console versions, but what about in absolute terms? Does a map that size feel "super cramped"? Or could I comfortably put dozens of hours into a survival mode world that big? I'm worried about winding up at the edge super quickly, whereas the PC world is "near-infinite".

You should be fine.

It's the staple game/fiction University for the upcoming generation of children. It's important for switch to have it. But it's just another day for Minecraft.

What I think is notable is that it took 3 years to get Minecraft on the Wii U.

Nintendo got Microsoft to bring it to Switch in its 3rd month.

Saying I'm sure a company wishes they had made an insanely profitable product still doesn't seem weird at all. Wishful thinking since I can't prove it? Maybe. Weird? Nope.

Hasn't Miyamoto said he wished he thought of it, or thought of something similar once? Or was that an urban legend?

I'm sure it will sell well, especially as we get closer to the holidays.

I think the reason there hasn't been much buzz is because pretty much everyone has played Minecraft at some point in the past 5-6 years on one of the many different platforms it exists on.

The game doesn't need a huge amount of hype to sell well.
