Still Phil love to fool people when it come to games , but nice show about the power of Xbox X and native 4K and about games nothing moves me to think about getting the Xbox X

Not correct, All games even if not enhanced get 16x AF applied, fps will become rock solid, resolution will remain same except for games with dynamic res which will go to the top peg all the time, all games will load much faster..

900p with 16x Af will look worse than 1080p with less AF in about all cases unless the developer makes am inexplicably badly balanced PS4 version.

The more I think about it the more I just don't know how I feel about this conference. It's almost like it was both good and bad.

Good because of the presentation and flow and because there were a lot of genuinely great looking games and awesome premiers.

Bad because I feel like they failed to do the two things they really needed to do: Sell the Xbox One X and quell fears regarding their first party situation. Announcing only two new first party games, and the most predictable ones possible at that, hurts... a lot. The whole show lacked impact and surprises.

But not as impressive as Anthem, right?

Haha please killzone 2005? Really comparing this to that?

Haha no

Haha, yes.

It's the "target render bait-and-switch" paradigm of the modern age.

I guess I'm not the die-hard Sony fanboy you assumed, eh?

Wait... Wasn't the Kz2 debacle really what drove developers to start labelling their stuff as "in engine"? The criticism was that KZ2 was a target render, not in engine. This is different than, being shown running in engine on existing hardware. I guess time will tell.

Initially, all the media buzz and hyperbole was that the KZ2 E3 footage was "in-engine" and after they couldn't deliver a playable public presentation equalling that, they said it was just a "target render".

And yes, time will tell with Anthem and I would love to be wrong even though I will not play it. I'm a graphics whore and if the graphics literally are that good - I might at least try it ;)

Here's my question guys, will Xbox One X gamers have to suffer from parity issues in multiplayer titles? All that damned power.....

They will have to suffer from being titles that need to run on Xbox one S.

MS has a nice little beast, a very well designed piece of hardware it would seem. But it's being kept on a leash having to run the same games as an Xbox one S in 4k.

Is it just me or was the opening segment of this conference the most game industry bro thing of E3 so far? They talked about a lot of numbers that are only interesting to people who know what they mean, they revealed a luxury car for no reason, and they brought out 2 women to just stand there with controllers in their hands. That whole segment felt like an appeal to the 18-35 male demo with lots of disposable income. I know that sounds weird, but I know people who work in the tech industry like this who love big numbers when it comes to computers and tech, fancy cars, and attractive women.

You guys really gotta stop entertaining Deckard's nonsense, he's been trolling this thread all day.

Wait...what?? All day??

Out of all the negative posts in this thread regarding how bad this conference actually was, you singled me out??

I was probably one of the last group of people to post about how bad this conference was, since I only caught the tail end of it live, but re-watched it in full [I was at work] - but I must have really struck a chord with you somehow, for you to single me out like that :)

It's cool ;)

Thought the presentation itself flowed pretty well. Lots of interesting games but nothing that seemed like a showcase title for the One X.

Some thoughts:

I like the One X name, I think it works well to avoid confusion on if it's a new console or not. I will miss the Simpsons references though.

I don't play PC games, so console exclusives are the same deal as actual exclusives to me and I'm pretty interested in all the ones shown.

I think they have a pretty weak holiday line up for the general population.

They needed a big exclusive game at the show even if it would be a year or two off.

OG Xbox support was the announcement of the show for me and I really hope they're able to get a sizable chunk of games on there.

499 is fair but going to look bad if the Pro drops to 349.

Post any overused meme you like, but this fact remains - remember the E3 2005 "actual gameplay footage" of Killzone 2 on PS3 footage?

https://youtu.be/b-4HNmuEAKg

There were many media outlets claiming that it wasn't false footage and that it was "actual gameplay footage captured from the hardware".

It was actually just a target render and as we all know, the game fell a little bit short of that visual splendor.

All I'm saying is, “Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.”

Man, I thought you went full crazy before. The mental gymnastics you must go through when you post is nuts. The Killzone video was clearly pre-rendered, not the same thing here. This has been confirmed to be running on X kits.

Does that guarantee that the final game will look this good? No. However that could be said for any game shown at E3, past and present. So all things being considered equal, your point still falls apart.

Edit:

So it's not Xbox exclusive then.

To console only gamers it might as well be.

Here's my question guys, will Xbox One X gamers have to suffer from parity issues in multiplayer titles? All that damned power.....

I can't imagine that multiplayer games that run in 30fps on the XBO will run at 60fps for the XBO X. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm willing to bet they'll have frame rate parity in multiplayer modes.

I think MS are leaning a bit too heavily on 'best version' of games stuff. I mean, it's going to move me over for sure because I'm a guy with a way too nice TV and sound system and I spend money on dumb purchases...

But the price AND lack of exclusive IP isn't gonna help them this fall.

If you're a 'portable' gamer who likely has multiple consoles and aren't too tied down to a particular service then that's fine - but I doubt this will persuade many to switch from PlayStation if they already have friends on PSn and digital game libraries which they can't trade in. Pro will be plenty for nice 4K graphics for that audience

For me personally I love the tech and I'm not tied down to any one console. But I like the variety that Sony brings and increasingly I'm finding GaaS leaving me cold. So I can't see myself buying XBONX (have the S for UHD bluesy). Metro looks great but that was hugely scripted and I want to see some proper gamepla

Do a little research before you waste your time posting a paragraph of inanity.

The initial hype was that the E3 2005 KZ2 footage was "in-engine", actual PS3 footage - which changed into "representative of the final product" within a month.

As we all know today, it was not even close to those lofty visuals; much to the dismay of those of us that were excited for it.

All I'm saying is, err on the side of caution when you see something that looks too good to be true - in any aspect of life.

Well.... that was not a good conference imo. Lots of games Yes. Couple of interesting as well.. but besides Ori and Cuphead pretty lackluster in exclusives.
The whole monster talk about the Xbox X was over the top and the exclusive (when its not really) was very childish. The 499 price tag is understandable but not just for multiplats. The exclusive titels didnt look great at all.

And this was probably me mishearing some stuff but it i thought i heared Phil say that 4 of the Xbox X updates were free for 4 games? did i hear that wrong?

Well the idea that Microsoft has no real 1st party doing anything is still the case. I don't see how this turns things around for them in any real way.

Like their last few conferences, it feels like the same, PR agency driven event with big "attention grabbing" moments but no real idea of what players actually want to see. Bringing out a car on stage is indicative of that. It's a gladhanding move that makes their partner super happy but serves no real purpose other than for glamour.

As for the Scorpio "MONSTER" talk and all the weird cult like vibe of MS employees wearing shirts that said "I WITNESSED THE MOST POWERFUL CONSOLE," and people spouting off numbers and blowing their load at how small the system is...it just goes back to what I said before about the insular and narrowminded view over at MS. They seemingly haven't read any feedback since the early days of launch and have been hyper-focused on addressing those problems, when most people are simply over that and would much rather see new games, big first party investment, and stuff that makes a serious impact. Maybe I'm wrong and this is their only move considering their first party is in shambles and their second party partnerships have all floundered (Crackdown sounds like a real fuckin disaster), but this show really demonstrated that this gen is truly lost to Sony for them.

Also another aside, I know everyone harps on how MS is just Halo, Forza, and Gears, but it's kind of crazy they haven't branched out more with the brands. If they treated Halo with the same approach as Disney with Star Wars, diversifying genres while still remaining inherently true to the series, they could help fill a lot of gaps. Maybe no devs are willing to come to the table with them, or they simply aren't willing to branch out. Who knows. The idea that there is a Forza 7 this year and perhaps a Horizon 4 next year is ridiculous. They need to start breaking these things up and making the gaps between installments longer. That's why there's no excitement around those brands. You can have these one franchise studio setups, but you have to do it right.

I thought the car unveiling felt really out of place. I understand that it's supposed to tie into Forza but really... not the place for unveiling a Porsche.

I don't need to do research, I remember it clearly. It was never said to be in-engine outside of a comment made by Jack Tretton, and even that comment has been debated. I believe Sony was misleading with that trailer in a roundabout way. They show the trailer with no clear indication and let the public jump to conclusions for themselves. However many of us who know what pre-rendered and real time look like knew it was bullshit. We don't know that yet with this and we can only go by what we see so far.

I'm done discussing all this with you though. I should know not to feed a troll.

The Killzone video was clearly pre-rendered, not the same thing here. This has been confirmed to be running on X kits.

It wasn't as clear when it was first shown because everyone that witnessed it was under the impression given by the presenters and the media that it was "in engine running on a PS3" which made anyone that wanted a Playstation 3 think "I can't wait to play this game!! Look how good it looks - it's the best looking game ever!!"

Sounds very similar to the hyperbole being thrown around now about Anthem.

Does that guarantee that the final game will look this good? No. However that could be said for any game shown at E3, past and present.

You just answered and agreed with me on your own question regarding anything that I've posted about Anthem.

Childish? Pointing out exclusivity, whether it be timed, permanent, or even DLC has been going on by all parties for years.. how is it childish now?

The monster stuff is appropriate because the console is substantially more advanced than any other console.

Phil pointed out that 4 or 5 games by MS were upgraded to 4k assests at no cost and 30ish others by 3rd party were following.

Childish in how it was being mentioned before every titel. It make me chuckle after the 4th time. So imagine 22 or some times.

Sorry, monster console, best and most powerfull console ever. I am a bit allergic for that.. from any party.

Thanx for clearing up the last point

And there you have it.

Anyone that watched that Sony E3 2005 presser, or heard about it and what was said on-stage by Jack Tretton and the ensuing media-blitz that KZ2's "in engine footage" caused, heard that it was "in-game footage on a PS3".

Regardless what we think or know CG looks like, we were all expecting [based on what we were fed] KZ2 to look like that ... but it didn't.

The same thing happened today at the Microsoft conference with Anthem and like I said, if I'm wrong, I will happily admit it and I might even try playing it just to see if it plays as good as it looks.

And I'm no troll, I never have been and I never will be - I just have opinions and I'm absolutely elated to share them :)

Put together a live reactions/impressions video

This conference wasn't bad, but it was kinda weird. We had some insane moments (crazy esports man), but overall there were a lot of awesome looking games on display and I'm excited to play them.

The only thing that was really lacking were big surprises or exclusives. If you own a 4K capable gaming PC (I do) there's basically no reason for you to pick up a One X. On top of that, we knew about pretty much everything at the show beforehand. I was really hoping for a new Rare game announcement but it seems like Sea of Thieves is taking longer than expected. If the DBZ game didn't get leaked and Anthem wasn't announced at EA's show those would have been amazing surprises... that being said, I was still super hype for both, as you can see in the video :p

So I liked the show. If you don't have a gaming PC, One X will definitely be the best option for multiplatform console games and a bunch of Xbone/PC exclusives. I'll wait for a price drop, though, as it's $599 in Canada at launch ; _ ;

I thought that the conference was really good. They should not have spent time on assassins creed, and I can't believe that halo 3 anniversary is not happening. Oh well.

Anyway, game after game, with variety. Unfortunately (or not for lots of posters, who just want to downplay everything) no wow set pieces shown. Still, Ashen, Anthem, forza, ce and a load of others looked really great. Fucking buying loads of games this year and next.

SoD2 didn't have the best showing. I can't help but feel that the Microsoft needs to invest some money into the franchise and studio, likewise Crackdown.. where are cloudgine or whatever they are called?? Sumo digital making the game now! Something is up

One X will definitely be the best option for multiplatform console games

Again, that is only if development teams take the extra time to extrapolate that extra bit of power from the system.

Developers need to be clear on which games are going to take advantage of that extra power, perhaps with something akin to labeling them "Xbox One X enhanced" or whatever.

Otherwise, it's just going to be the same as a PlayStation 4 Pro version.

Take Call of Duty: WWII for example.

I am super, ridiculously excited for that game and I want to play the best console version of it. All we know, is that between the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X - it's going to be 4K and have HDR lighting - but also that Sony has exclusive rights to it in some way.

Activision and Sledgehammer Games need to be transparent and say something to the effect that either the PS4 Pro/Xbox One X version are identical, or that the Xbox One X version will contain extra graphical upgrades and will be the definitive version.

That will define my purchase

After good night's sleep I think I can summarize what I didn't like about this conference: pacing and lack of clear message.

SoD2 and Sea of Thieves reminded me Sony's last year Days Gone prolonged demo - it makes me think there was supposed to be some other stuff there, but it got canceled at the last moment and was hastily replaced with long gameplay reels of the aforementioned exclusives. Both games are interesting and may become great hits, but they're not the eye candy you would expect from the conference dedicated to monster graphics.

Also, too much "exclusives" led to the lack of claimed diversity and strange appearances (esport guy? wtf was that?). Replace/reduce some of the low-budget titles with short montage of, dunno, FIFA/Final Fantasy/Witcher and all the usual suspects, marked as "the best 4k evar" - and it would go a bit smoother than it did, in my humble opinion.

In whole, it seemed a bit panicky to me, with a tint of lack of self-confidence.

A surprising amount of planning went into the conference for it to be so mediocre. I was very ready to be sold on a Scorpio. The specs are nice, but it pretty much looked like a $500 Forza machine. They didn't really show anything awesome about it.

Running a couple 3rd party multiplatforms at 4K is nice, don't get me wrong. I just wasn't convinced that I need to go out and preorder this thing since I don't care about Forza and Crackdown 3 looks like shit.

It's the price, it dragged down all of their effort. The software was good, most fire power in terms of software I have seen at a MS presser. But once the price was announced it washed away everything.
In my opinion when you have a line up like this and you dont nail the hardware price, it makes everything look like a total waste. I think MS was able to justify the price but $499 is a drag at a conference like E3.
Thinking it would have been better to have a separate event a week before E3 focused on the console and the price, followed by this E3 format a week later at E3.

What was going on with Crackdown and Sea of Thieves. Sea of Thieves looked so dull until the sea battle(Unbelievable water tech). Crackdown must be in dev hell.

Watching the conference yesterday I couldn't shake the notice that gaming as an industry hasn't really grown up that much. As much as we like to say it has. The entire conference felt so incredibly childish. Bringing a car on stage and stuff. What was that? What is the point? Or that esports yelling guy? Or the incredibly off putting weirdly scripted Minecraft lady. Or the notice that they just had to keep on repeating the words 4K and 'most powerful console'.

Maybe it's just Microsoft and their conference. I'm curious to the Sony conference (which I won't watch because Sony always does theirs at 3am here in Europe. So stupid) to see if they also bring the childishness.

Maybe I'm over reaching as to extend my impressions of this one conference to the entire industry at large. But man... It's just time to step things up and bring more class to it all. I just felt so embarrassed for Microsoft and gaming in general watching that.

Xbox really needed to show a strong triple A first party exclusive. Super Lucky looks cute and family friendly and all but that just isn't enough.

I don't know wtf Sea of Thieves is, and crackdown looks horrible from teh very little they showed.

Ashen and The Last Night looked amazing though, and of course Metro and Anthem, but it's not enough to sway the masses.

If the X can do everything they are claiming and it will run games in native 4K they just barely justified the price, but I'm skeptical of this True 4K term they are using. It's vague enough so that they can use it either way.

The most impressive thing about the conference for me was streaming it on Mixer in 4K because it was in HDR as well. That shocked the hell out of me when it kicked over to HDR lol

I have to agree with you on most of this. None of the presenters had any stage presence. it's like it was their first time doing this, hell maybe it was. It started out somewhat reminding me of Apple how they do the little comparison of what has changed, and why X is better etc. Then it just all went downhill.

A lot of it may just be the audience also. I would prefer they break it down in a demonstration of what the unit does in a A-B comparison but that is me, I don't think most people would want to sit through something like that

I agree with what you're saying for the first half hour of the conference or so. But after the stupid car stuff Microsoft really hit their stride. They showed game after game and covered a lot of different genres/aesthetics. Overall I think they made specific appeals to all kinds of varied tastes. Yes, their conference had an over-prepared, PR driven feel to it, but I think they hit the right targets.

Wasn't this supposed to be the year where we would be finally seeing Phil Spencer's first-party efforts?

I feel like i've been reading this for two years straight now.
It's always Tomorrow when we see the fruits of Phil Spencer's labors. Luckily for Phil, as the saying goeth, tomorrow never comes.

Well the idea that Microsoft has no real 1st party doing anything is still the case. I don't see how this turns things around for them in any real way.
Matt alluded to the fact that there is still no significant investment now. We won't see MS first party expanding under Phil, it's moot st this point.

Yeah, I don't think I have seen a conference from either MS or Sony with such a weak first party line up. In terms of showing off the Xbone X, only anthem really impressed me. However, as someone with a 1080P, I expect the difference between XboneX and Pro games to be pretty minor.

When they started the car talk I was convinced this conference would be a complete shitshow EA style but they turned it around really well.

I like the simple let's talk hardware and then just show some games agenda. I think seing how they're in a difficult spot right now regarding their franchises and studios this was the best show they could've put on.

It was an okay conference I guess. I'm not that interested with Scorpio (I will still call it that because it's a lot better name than Xbox One X), but then again, I never was. Lots of games, some of them interesting, most of them not.

I've seen better and worse from MS. Highlight for me was the new Ori game, loved the first one (even though it wasn't a surprise because it leaked early..).

Oh, and I absolutely HATED how much the world "exclusive" was said. It's a word that doesn't mean a goddamn thing (to me), many "exclusives" will be on other platforms in a matter of months. And it says nothing about the quality of the game. A horrible, stupid marketing word.

Didn't get to watch all of the conference, however what's everyone's verdict on it? A memorable Microsoft conference? Hits and misses or one to forget?

I mean, I guess what was shown wasn't bad, but it just doesn't feel good enough for a first party, let alone one that is releasing a new box - but I guess that makes sense considering 90% of it is third party timed exclusives.

I am struggling to understand why Microsoft is even in the console manufacturing business and this conference just made it even more perplexing. Why does the Xbox One X exist? Everything is on PC, the One X is unlikely to make any impact on the market at that price, Microsoft's first party output remains far too small.. What's it all for?

I have to echo the theory mentioned by a previous poster that Redmond basically told Phil "you have one more chance and x amount of money to make us care about the console business" - and they chose mainly to moneyhat some timed exclusives and finish off the couple of first party exclusives that have been in the works for years.

Surely it will take more than that to reverse the fortunes of the Xbox division.
