Half this topic is people getting hyped and the other half is people trying to stop those people from getting hyped.

Listen, it probably wont be that amazing but we already have confirmation that they are going to reveal new Nintendo games.

There can be a middle ground you know.

Well in that case, the Monolith Soft reveal would be one of the many reveals / teasers at the Nintendo Direct, including Retro's new game, the new 3D Mario, more Super Smash Bros. 4 news, a Mario Kart Wii U announcement, etc.

Although it's also likely that the Nintendo Direct will be "enthusiast-focused" / barebones (Monolith Soft and Yoshi's Land) instead. You're right, it won't save the share price, but at least GAF / the fans will be happy.

That list of games. I hope you seriously aren't expecting something like that. It's almost entirely nonsensical. Also Yoshi's Island has consecutively sold millions in Japan, it's a very lucrative franchise.

I think the unveil of Wii Sports U and maybe a new EAD Tokyo game (Not Mairo 3D yet) seems practical and poignant enough for a direct.

If E3 is supposedly more for the mainstream audience will they save things like Wii Sports U for that and have more core orientated games for this Nintendo Direct?

I expect to see Wii Sports U otherwise.

Voice of wisdom right here.

I was being a little silly with that post. :) Those two announcements seem lovely to calm investor relations.

I expect to see Game and Wario as a retail/digital release with a MSRP of $50.

So bullshit but you know it's coming.

They really overestimated Nintendoland and now Intelligent Sytems is wasted to put some ugly Wario coat of paint on the minigame leftovers. And of course it's gonna be full price, lol.

These hype threads make me wish Nintendo had a competent marketing firm. What if Wii U didn't have those SHIT commercials, but an actual exciting marketing blitz. Can still happen, it has to really.

It's hard to get hype for this knowing that it's only 30 minutes long. Oh well even if it is underwhelming at least we got some good gifs out of it :D

Investors will want third party exclusives like Bayonetta. I don't expect to see much Western exclusive support, which most likely is the kind of support their shareholders want the most. And personally, I would like that as well. Nintendo games seem to be targeting me less and less.

I'm reluctant to say Wii Sports U because Nintendo Directs are aimed more toward "core" (fuck this term) gamers rather than casuals. But we will see...

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
A few things:

- It is really amazing how much goodwill Nintendo has squandered recently: they flat out say "we are announcing new Nintendo games for Wii U" and people still don't believe them!

-I don't understand the worry about the presentation only being 30 minutes. That's half of what they devote at E3, and this is focused on one platform and only first party games.

I modified this to look more like what we'll most likely see.

Well, the last one was supposed to be a little bit of a joke, but we're definitely getting new stuff.

-Longest wait between a Nintendo Direct and broadcast in a long time (apart from...Pokemon)
-English tweets mention new games
-WW simultaneous
-Q3 results/investor's briefing this week, iirc.
-Facebook event

Something is coming.

I'm sticking with Yoshi's Land as the big thing. It's a title that will likely sell well, it will be interesting to Nintendo fans, and it's not something that needs to be saved for E3 (Monolith Soft fits here also). Something like Retro's game, Zelda, 3D Mario, I see being games that Nintendo would save for E3 conferences.

That's the middle-ground people are missing. We know there will be new Wii U games, so saying only release dates for announced Wii U and 3DS games is obviously wrong and isn't all they'll show, but obviously they won't reveal every game known to man at the same time.

Investors don't give a crap about "third party exclusives" specifically and certainly not a bomber like Bayonetta. They just spout "Final Fantasy" and "Dragon Quest" and "Mario" and "Pokemon". I personally would rather see Nintendo put money into F-Zero and Star Fox, rather than Bayonetta. But whatever.

I don't wanna check twitter again, but the phrasing seemed kinda vague. They've been telling bullshit since E3 and mishandling the console completely, so doubts aren't exactly inappropriate. The last WiiU Direct was pretty bad too, when their launch window crap finally lost its meaning and that was basically it. Except for that google maps thing...

Because usually lots of time is used for unexciting, known games. And they still haven't given Wii Fit U proper time yet, so that's already gonna eat lots of showtime,

.

One of the official twitters explicitly says "new games" right?

God I hope you're right. Nintendo really need to get the good news train rolling for the Wii U.

Whatever Nintendo shows tomorrow, I think they have to show a game to get the hardcore excited. An amazing sequel to Yoshi's Island would do just that.

Mr Iwata will reveal new games for #WiiU in a new #NintendoDirectEU at 2PM GMT on 23/01

"Reveal new games" heavily implies that the games haven't been revealed yet. What a shock!

What kind of games hasn't been revealed yet?

On second thought. These seem very plausible:

1: Virtual Console Line up
2: WiiU Ware Line up
3. Wii U January - June Recap (already announced games)
4. Wii Sports U sneak peak

Save For E3
1. Smash Bros. 4
2. RetroStudios project
3. Other Games

A Facebook event means something big is coming? It likely means Nintendo remembered they had a FB account.

Investors don't give a rats ass about that. All they see is what they think makes them money and right now that's social and cellphone games.
Skyward Sword. The demo got onto the internet, people went through the files and then hey presto: the entire plot of the game was in there.
I didn't know that about the plot, but that's because I stayed away from those threads :p

I think it's going to be the announcement of Monolithsofts epic RPG title for the Wii-U with a teaser. A new Wonderful 101 trailer and release date. New Pikmin 3 trailer and release date. Rollout of the Wii-U virtual console including the first 5 gamecube games available for purchase.

They do know the difference between new and announced. I belive the last ND (not the Poke one) they mentioned new info on"announced games", so when they say new they mean new.

Yoshi's Island really? How many people have even played that game much less care about it? I know I don't. The new Monolith Soft game would probably be a much bigger bomb than that.

It isn't exactly promising if E3 2012 was the other event which they felt was worth bringing out their FB account for.
10 minutes of Wii Fit U, some trailers of Pikmin, Lego and Wii Sports U as the big surprise incoming.
