VGleaks: Orbis Unveiled! [Updated]

Not exactly the best name to use.

I thought the very same.

For reference, this was VGleaks first Orbis leak back in June 2012

http://www.vgleaks.com/world-exclusive-ps4-in-deep-first-specs/

CPU went from 4core Steamroller to 8 Core Jaguar

GPU info has stayed same, but there's now additional info on it. It has less CU units but the TFlops and clock speed are the same.

RAM went from 2GB @ 192 GB/s to 4GB @ 176 GB/s, although in their initial leak they said 4GB was being targeted.

So basically, from their first leak to the latest, the major change has been the CPU.

You mean Vision GT? I doubt it'd be like that. Kaz has said that the cars that they actually built cars for GT5 that are more suited for the PS4 than the PS3. It just comes down to the courses after that. Even limiting it to one course wouldn't be a bad thing. With GT2000 they ended up only using a Special Route course for its unveiling, and even eventually started showing of Seattle.

Yeah, I mean that.

Since they have now 2 teams I guess that whatever is shown for PS4 will be more advanced in development.

No mention of the break-apart DS4 controller? I want that to happen so we don't need a dedicated Move controller laying around doing nothing.

System will lose a lot of steam for me if that camera and move are forced into each console. It'll basically guarantee I never play a shooter of any kind online ever.

I don't know whether I'll be dropping for Durango or Orbis, but holy fucking hell I don't want this thing going down like the Vita.

Can someone else confirm this as well? Not that I don't believe you in the first place gofreak.

I'm getting this from the architectural overviews of GCN and reviews of various cards e.g.

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...ws/49646-amd-radeon-hd-7970-3gb-review-4.html

While the main core elements have changed drastically, items like the Geometry Engines and render backends haven’t seen much in the way of architectural changes and some may even think they have been overlooked. There are still eight combined Render Output Units which hold four ROPs each, giving the Tahiti core a maximum of 32 ROPs

There's a block diagram of the architecture there too showing the 8 groups of 4 ROPs etc.

They're just listing input peripherals.

There's no way you'll find a move, a ds4, and a new pseye in the box.

They're not that stupid.

Same, That goes against many trends we see happening in consumer tech, and I'd think they'd make a "lesser" version for price conscious consumers.

Fuck price conscious consumers.

If you're buying a virtual headset for you to play video games on/in...you don't get to be price conscious.

no matter what is included, the Dual Shock will always be the standard for playstation until something outright replaces it. People who think otherwise are kidding themselves.

Nice my source was right.
I thought for sure we were getting Durango info but this is great. Excellent specs and its good that they are more or less confirmed.

The hardware is there now we just have to wait for the games.

Are you sure wasn´t you who inspired this piece of news?. mmmm

Remember that time we were all really impressed by the Vita specs, and then it had no games and no one bought it?

Yeah I hope that doesn't happen here.

Kaz, pls

Sounds good. Still think hard drive should be additional but am fighting a losing battle there I suppose.

All sound excellent otherwise thought. RAM is better than people expected before the leaks began, so it all seems good.

Maybe a dumb question (and I apologize if it's been asked to death)...

But how does this compare to current high end PC builds? I'm looking at that 3.5gb dedicated to games, and weeping at my 2gb GTX680 sli.

I wonder if this gen will push dedicated memory past 2gb. I know Max Payne did with the high res textures.

That is total system ram though.

In these consoles they are using one set of RAM to account for graphics memory and general system memory.

To compare to a PC, you probably have 8 GB of DDR3 system RAM, some of which is used by the OS. And 2 GB of GDDR5 on your GPU for graphics memory.

Latency on VRAM is a considerable factor in a good GPU, and Durango seems to have a fairly slow latency, Orbis seems to be faster.

I'm not sure that's what that means...
It means if they make a chip with 18 CUs you can get chips with bad CUs and you would have to throw them away if 18 is the target. If you target 14 but make 18 you can have 4 bad units and the chip is still viable. If all 18 are good then 4 will be deactivated or just not utilized.
I'm not saying this is what they mean with that statement, but it's my guess.

I hope it's good because I do want a console but I definitely don't want the WiiU and I don't think I want MS console.

One SKU? I'll believe it when I see it.
And exactly as it should be at launch. Multiple launch SKUs only confuse customers and makes it difficult to properly judge demand between SKUs for the manufactuer. I'm still shocked that Nintendo followed that stupid trend after the successful single SKU Wii launch.
