VGleaks: Orbis Unveiled! [Updated]

Corky

Nine out of ten orphans can't tell the difference.
will this be able to run BF3 on ultra? 1080p/60fps

I'm as dumb as they come when it comes to console/pc tech and everything surrounding them but lets say that the current-gen consoles run BF3 at 720p/30fps medium settings (?).

A jump from 720p/30fps to 1080p/60fps requires ~5x the performance and that's not even taking into consideration the jump from console settings to ultra settings.

That are some spectacular specs for a console that I believe should be priced around $400,- for consumers to buy.

3.5 GB for games is enough. I am still seeing things like God of War Ascension being pushed on PS3's hardware, with only 256x256 MB of memory.

Next gen is almost upon us.

VGLEAKS updated their latest Orbis article! More GPU info:
http://www.vgleaks.com/world-exclusive-orbis-unveiled/

UPDATE: some people is confused about the GPU, here you have more info about it:

Each CU contains dedicated:

- ALU (32 64-bit operations per cycle)

- Texture Unit

- L1 data cache

- Local data share (LDS)

About 14 + 4 balance:

- 4 additional CUs (410 Gflops) “extra” ALU as resource for compute

- Minor boost if used for rendering

Dual Shader Engines:

- 1.6 billion triangles/s, 1.6 billion vertices/s

18 Texture units

- 56 billion bilinear texture reads/s

- Can utilize full memory bandwith

8 Render backends:

- 32 color ops/cycle

- 128 depth ops/cycle

- Can utilize full memory bandwith

so it does sound like DF was off-base with their rumor of a standalone gpgpu, and instead the GPU contains extra CUs for this purpose

(and proelite was right)

I still remain curious to know how can DDR3 at 106 GB of speed (more or less) overtake 176 GB of GDDR5 even with the double of the RAM. Can someone delight me?

Durango's bandwidth cannot "overtake" Orbis's bandwidth. However, if Durango has "enough" bandwidth to take care of what's needed, then having more RAM can certainly come into play.

Having extra ram gives more room to hold data that doesn't have to be cached to the much slower hdd.

And with streaming like in say skyrim you could hold data like the area around you a lot longer so not as much streaming hiccups.

But it's not going produce a better image just better performance in some key situations.

The best speced hardware will produce the better image.

This + extra 2 CU's are the special sauce.

I thought it was already 4 of 14 being reserved as ALU (according to latest update) for compute. Are you suggest it is 14 + 4 + 2?

Can someone now explain the TMU/TU's feature matching with a pitcairn with that 56 billion bilinear texture reads since they did not multiply by 4?

That's what the extra 4 CUs are doing is also present in a dedicated CU in Durango. Just saying. :)
So we have 1.4 TFlops vs. 1.2

Seriously this article looks like it was written by fanboys. GAF points out that 14CUs makes no sense and magically the article is updated with new info that says there are now 4 extra compute CUs to make 18.

I don't believe VGLeaks after this and getting the Blu-ray spec wrong.

Because '1 Texture unit' in a CU is 4 texture filter units. Just think of it as 4 texture units if you prefer. It's the same 4 'texture units' in every other GCN CU.

Seems that my GTX 580 which will be over 2 years old will still push out more polygons than what Sonys new console does which is disappointing tbh. Otherwise the specs seem ok

Isn't that pretty much what we speculated?

Have they been right in previous leaks?

I dont believe it either. It just screams broken and a stopgap to me.

Although it's quite amusing to see the comments section.

I can't wait for the crying and unrealistic expectations for it to be the same price or cheaper than the WiiU.

And finally the heart breaking meltdowns when the price is revealed.

Just because the Wii U is massively overpriced doesn't mean that this thing shouldn't come in at the same price as the Wii U considering the specs.
