Believing that input lag = weight... You'd have to be as retarded as those that ate the marketing tripe that 'rumble was last gen'. The response time if KZ2 was universally delayed, right down to the title screen, the pause and options menus, you name it.

Pretty sure menus aren't supposed to 'weigh' anything. And if it takes as long as it does for a bullet to fly out of your gun after you pulled the trigger in real life as it does in KZ2, then, fuck.

People thinking input lag is good are out of their goddamn minds. Just absolutely fucking bananas. I don't know how someone could say "input lag is good because..." anything. It's just talking out of the ass.

Way to buck the trend of AAA games by adding input lag :p

I think I remember an article awhile back where naughty dog said it wasn't survival horror.

eh, well then
so much for survival anything

i mean, there's no tension if i don't have to worry about consequences from dying
it's not surviving if i can just retry 30 seconds back from where i fucked up

super lame

This news all sounds great, with the exception of the input lag. I wonder what that's all about. If it's anything like the aiming system in Uncharted 3 then that has the potential to very quickly put a damper on any fun I might have gleaned from this game.

Even if it plays differently from every other modern TPS out there? Why does ammo have to be scarce? Can't it be different in other ways?

If we're talking about playing it like a regular shooter, guns blazing so to speak, then a shooter is a shooter at the end of the day. I'm expecting a lot more from this game outside of shootbanging people.

Wow the input lag/"weighted" feel argument is back... I love it.

Seriously, companies put some realism into games when it comes to shooting and everyone loses their shit, but if the realism isn't there in the graphics for some fat dudes man tits, then there will be hell to pay. How about you wait to play a demo to understand the mechanic and how it feels.... or are we stuck on, if it doesn't feel like a plastic gun, then it's crap..

Hold on, we may be misunderstanding something. When you say it has "input-lag", can you elaborate please? Are we talking about animation lock such as where if you input a command then input a different command right after, it will not carry out the second till the first command's animation is done? Ala, pressing square and Joel punishes, you change your mind and press the aim button but it's not instant so you perceive that as input lag perhaps? Or are we talking about a different kind of input-lag such as intentional slowed acceleration or just plain old broken input-lag where it's not intentional and adds nothing to the game but frustration and the feel of a poorly optimized engine/game?

Hmmm.

Input Lag? healing QTEs?

I'm starting to think this game isn't going to be for me. Personally, for games, realism usually has an inverse relationship with fun. And I want my games to be about fun.

I'm still interested, for now.

I agree. There has to be a balance in there. I think with TLOU, ND is trying to add more routines and simulations to achieve a more grounded 'survival vibe' and I think their bold approach should be commended.

TLOU is after all a big departure from Uncharted. I love how all of ND's games still have these amazing production values though. As far as so called 'input lag' goes, I'll always give the benefit of the doubt to these guys as far as design decisions go until I've played it for myself.

Because it's 20 years after the god damn apocalypse. I am sure that ammo will conveniently sitting around when you need it.

yeessss. this is the game i've been waiting for my whole life.... well atleast the crafting/battle system..

fingers crossed.

Yes. Me too. Prob the only game I am looking forward to this year apart from Bioshock. Always dreamt of playing a game like this. Also damn the soundtrack of this game is drop dead gorgeous. Freaking unnerving.

I really hope ND stick to their guns on this one and keep all the "hardcore" stuff in there. I want to heal, I want to move at a slower pace, I want scarce ammo supply, I want bullets to do harm, I want things to actually matter.

I'm really not seeing how input lag is realistic. It doesn't take 150ms for a signal from my brain to get to my arm and make it move. You can have things like inertia without input lag.

Why do people automatically hate input lag? It worked well for KZ2.

It seems like this combined with the other big changes are in fact so new that players have no reaction but to hate because they haven't experienced it yet. They already had an idea of how The Last of Us would play out, and this new info doesn't seem to fit that vision of quick shooting.

Congrats for the dumbest post of the month. Not liking input lag = sucking at games ? Seriously ?

Don't bother, he says the same "you suck/suck less" BS every time someone says that Killzone 2 had laggy and clunky controls...also I love how anyone who dislikes the KZ2 controls is automatically in the "mainstream" and "watered down" CoD crowd, all this input lag defense is getting hilarious.

Back on topic this new info (IF it's true) doesn't sound good, the whole you have to heal yourself if you take a bullet thing may hurt the pacing and of course the input lag in the controls is really disappointing.

Still waiting for the demo to hit to read more impressions on both of these things.

I don't think it's input lag rather then just heavier controls. And that would be a design choice. Like it was for the older RE games, where you couldn't walk and shoot at the same time. It ads to the sense of vulnerability.

Where did it say QTEs? Am I reading the wrong OP?

Well, the line that says:

in order to stop losing health, you have to get the bullet out of the wound, disinfect it with alcohol or antiseptic and bind the wound. all by holding the r1 button one by one.

Sounds like it could be QTE-ish. Do you hold R1 or do you hit it with a prompt "one by one"? Either way it sounds like it's wasting the player's time when walking over a health pickup or using a bandage with one button would be far quicker. If I wanted to spend time doing that shit I would have bought Trauma Center.

Again, this just applies to me. I realize a lot of you enjoy this sort of thing. I don't.

Going from the recent trailers, we have seen Joel healed himself ONCE. A menu is popped up and a bandage is selected just like your standard biohazard game except that it's real time. You see him apply the bandage on his arm after. Going by this, the bullet concept may take this a step further probably by hitting R1 twice (bullet removal menu) then transitions to the items menu where the bandage option is available followed by an activation to use said item. This is the best scenario I can come up with based on what WE KNOW.

I really don't see how this mechanic would go to the other side of the spectrum and implement a QTE feature overlayed on a standard item menu screen. It would just over-complicate things and the only reason why I can see posters go this direction is that they want to find some way to counter the OP's title by finding as MANY generic mechanics that they can come up with. First it was the AI, now it's QTE's and input lag, and I predict it would be one feature after another that will receive this much contention till the game release date. God, I really hope ND destroys these pre-emptive speculations once and for all so we can get on with our lives.

My favorite part of tomb raider was the beginning where Lara is weak and you are doing some exploring that leads to your first gun fight. The tension was really high and you were forced to use stealth, it actually felt realistic.

Tlou seems to be that section taken to eleven, I can't wait.

Man, seeing the KZ2 didn't have input lag argument is a blast from the past. I still fondly remember the 20 page debate on the previous forum I used to post on. Such crazy times.

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
It's a translation from German from what I can see. Should probably see what the original text says, if he was making a reference to an actual input lag, or it's just that the aiming is slower moving, less twitchy.

Wait a minute... the notes in OP aren't from the magazine article? What's going on here?!

Who is responsible for toying with my emotions!

EDIT: Oh my god!! I missed the "source who has played the game" from OP. Disappointed!

I don't want to be that guy but...

https://twitter.com/Neil_Druckmann/status/311873472877969408

What a shame :/

Thanks for the link.

I can't believe the magazine is lying... just WOW.
Someone from Germany here who can confirm the narrative written in the M! Games Magazine? I mean, I have the magazine right here by me.

They even have a Interview section with Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, where Bruce said following:

He hates how in a video game you get these adrenalin shots when injured and the health would immediately be back to 100% without actually stopping the blood loss. So they created this damage and health system to put consequences in gameplay.

Neil Druckmann is quoted saying following in the interview:

at one time in the development process of tlou there was a command interface for ellie but was kicked after testing it. naughty dog doesn't want it to be a tactical shooter and it also would be inappropriate to command ellie because of her character... a kid who has her own mind, a potty mouth and doesn't always listen bravely. it would kill this character if a command interface would be integrated.

And he also mentions that he has a just a few months old daughter in context to a question where he asked what he thinks about the criticism of the gun-using kid, ellie.

All a lie?

Apparently some of this info is from Secretarial Dog who was also posting stuff in the other TLoU thread, which was debunked in that same thread.

Not sure how much of his info was debunked, but the dude has no credibility yet to make a thread based on his claims or "inside" info.

One bit of good news to take away from this is that there might not be any intentional input lag. Although I am more than a little disappointed the news about the healing mechanic isn't true.

Yeah no. I completely misread it and thought OP has the magazine and is reading it off it. The lack of "RUMOR?????" in thread title made it believable.

Such a shame, really.

A big FU to conventional AAA games would be

- No shoehorned multiplayer mode
- No preorder bonuses
- No DLC

Pretty sure Last of Us will have all of those :)

Here's to hoping it's good though.

100%

The issue is still available. I got the magazine right next to me. Mods can ban me immediately if this isn't written in the magazine.

So, can someone please from germany second this informations?

I don't think the magazine is the one who's wrong, in your original post from the old LoU thread, you have 2 source, one is from magazine that you own, the other one is from 'source' that you believe to be accurate.

your 'source' is the questionable one here.
