PSA: The Final Fantasy VII Steam Release is Imminent [UPDATE] Now available on Steam

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Wonder how much they will charge?

Paves the way for FF8 too given that it had a PC port too (a decent enough one too if I remember correctly).

It wasn't as bad as FF7's but it wasn't good either.

FF8s PC port's claim to fame is having Chocobo World the Pocketstation mini-game that never made it to the west because the Pocketstation wasn't released in the west for the PSX version. I'd buy that on PC just to try that as a curiosity (since it buffed Boco the Chocobo in FF8's chocobo summon)
and for the achievements

When I originally played VIII I had to put up with the PC version FMV skipping. The music would be like du-u-u-n du-u-u-n.
It was so long. There really should have been a way to install them to the hard drive. Sometimes it took as long as like 10 seconds for the CD-ROM drive to boot up the file out of an idle state. I played it in 98 on a Pentium 200mhz, 32MB of RAM, and a 12MB Voodoo II. I think the CD speed may have been 24x? Can't remember that one for sure.

I yes, I find it annoying and uncomfortable. I hope there's a fix on the pc so I can finally play this game.

I made a 360 controller profile for this: http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/pc-...ystick/xbox-360-ps3-psx-etc/final-fantasy-vii

A = OK
B = Cancel/Run (Hold B to Run)
X = Switch
Y = Menu
LB/LT = Previous and Escape (hold with RB or RT to Escape)
RB/RT = Next and Escape (hold with LB or LT to Escape)
Back = Target
Start = Pause
Left Stick Button = Assist
Right Stick Button = Camera
Left Analog Stick = Analog Movement (Walk and Run, Menu Movement not recommended but possible)
Right Analog Stick = Analog Movement (Walk and Run, Menu Movement not recommended but possible)

D-Pad = Movement and Menu Movement (Hold B to Run)

Honestly, if you want to play this game, why would you bother with anything other than the original PSX release? The backgrounds are all made for 320x240 so running at a higher resolution only creates a stronger division between the backgrounds and the characters plus the music is terrible in the PC port.
It is always nice to see classics come to Steam but I have to wonder the same thing. Playing the PS1/PS3 version on an SDTV or on a PSP/PSVita is probably the best way to go.

You can run the game in windowed mode so it doesn't stretch, apply AA and AF to increase the IQ, and mod in lossless audio tracks to fix the audio.

Sounds pretty definitive to me.

I would literally throw up all over my fucking computer screen if an achievement blared across the screen when THAT happens.

How do Steam achievements work? Can you turn them off?

You can turn achievement notifications off

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Shiiiit, I have to 100% this badboy again?

Deal.

ill buy this guaranteed .

but i do wish someone would be willing to make a High res retexure mod for it without destroying the original feel of the game.

Yeah, I want the steam version. Will it have the same stupid log in and serial code shit that their release has last year? Better native controller support would be nice too.

There is no way for me to tell right now, the Installation and Configuration sections haven't been added yet by Square. That is where the information on DRM would be present.

Maybe they'll release it on discount the first day of the summer sale. They did that for other games like the Oddboxx for a winter sale, if I recall.

Wario64

works for Gamestop (lol)
Can new games appear during the sale, or does it have to be released before it? Is there even a rule at all?

Eh, unlike the PC version of VIII which re-rendered the CG backgrounds and FMVs and double the PSX's resolution, I don't particularly see the advantage of VII on PC over emulated PSX.

DMC4 appeared during an XMAS sale, I believe. It was part of the sale, too! You could pay the paltry sum of $30 for a three year old game! What a bargain.

It was like $10 in the sale the year after

Hmmm

Since they're just putting it on there I wouldn't expect it to go on some crazy sale this soon.

Release evidence is pointing to the Summer sale starting on the 11th.

They have plenty of time to release it before then.

They should apply a 33% discount to the title in order to generate some revenue during the sale, of course Square of Japan will probably be oblivious.

I think this will be the same version as the one re-released on Square Enix site, you know with the new music!

Hopefully minus all the DRM.

Yup I hope that too :/

Yeah but that's still like, just a week off. It'd be cruel to release the game that close to a sale for $10 and then drop the price to anything substantial.

Then again... this is Steam.

Its pretty common for games released near the Summer Sale.

Otherwise they just get completely overlooked by games with much deeper discounts.

Likely what will happen is Square of Japan won't discount the title at all during the Summer sale, then blame the consumers for the low sales.
