Man, lots of Xbox devs posting in the blog comments.

No kidding. Here's a rundown for those that can't go to the blog.

MSoft XBO OS Dev said:
This is 100% false. Yes our OS had this problem, but months ago. I am talking E3 months ago even before the DRM. You’re right when you say we “changed the way it worked” and that did cause problems. DRM removal (your fault and a late decision upstairs due to the numbers) pushed us back even further. It wasn’t as easy as a patch, flipping a switch. It was built into the system. The online check went through more than the games. There were features that had to be redone including our sharing system and some other features we did not get to announce that we plan on adding on. Everyone is working their ass off 24/7 until launch. Yes it’s buggy but after you install the 2GB day one update, the UI will work just fine and also expect the console (if connected) to auto update when you’re offline, or in the background at night. This will happen throught the life cycle and the cloud enables us to patch In things remotely. If games were pushed back you’d hear about that. Actually XBO games have gone gold and are running fine. COD Ghost is 900p, RYSE. 900p, DR3 720p, FORZA 1080p, BF4 900p, KI 720p, ZOO TYCOON 1080p, TITANFALL running from 900-1080 (not finalized of course), Halo 1080p (they’ve been working on this for 2 years now and can fully take advantage like Turn10. ) To be truthful I can’t wait until the 22nd because when our system runs fine, you won’t be very popular in the industry. You and your friends at NeoGaf have some sort of anti Microsoft agenda that we get tired of reading. Also, Titanfall is a Microsoft exclusive. Not Xbox. Respawn can leave EA at any time and we can publish it after the first year. Enjoy.

*ACTUAL* MSoft XBO OS Dev said:
I don’t know who the hell that last guy was, but I’m an actual Xbox dev. Shit is flying here and nothing is ready. XBL crashes like crazy, snap feature may not make it for launch, and smartglass is not even close to being cooked. I’m going to have to come in on the weekends for the next year with the way things are going. Thing is I was here when the Xbox 360 launched, and man that was a vision and a product that we had faith in. It was beautiful. Kinect had it’s detractors, but it rejuvinated the Xbox brand in a whole new way. And now this is all going to shit. There is no vision for XB1, just a lot of meddling from the higher ups and no clear goals other than TV TV TV. Most of this won’t be fixed at launch. I would quit now if I didn’t have collegues that would suffer because of it.

Also who the hell is Kevin Dent. No one has touch any retail kits here unless they’re a part of the MS team.

MS XBLA Dev said:
Okay, I don’t know who the other two guys are, but I’m a real Microsoft developer.
There are no issues. Everything is going swell. Day 1 online functionality is primed and ready. We are looking forward to an exciting launch. All that’s left for us is to behuhu the rub hive

MSoft XBLA OS1 Dev said:
Actual Microsoft developer here, I know the three guys above. They’re a bunch of [RABBIT POOPS] and the Xbone’s set to crash and burn.

MS XBONE Dev said:
There’s actually no parts in the One. The reason we made the box big and flat, is so that everybody can do lines of coke off of it. #Truthfact

Really real MS Xbox One Dev said:
Those last two guys are real assholes, but Im a real Xbox one developer. The building is burning and MS if out of business. Windows will cease working on all computers at 8am EST.

lol every time I refresh it has more 'dev' posts.

Looks like MS bit off more than they could chew. The formula was so simple. Build on the framework. Add power. Incremental steps with the OS. You don't have to throw everything you own into the box. It's not a crock pot, it's a console. Games.

With that said, can MS really release a system with a broken OS? No way they do that, right? It would be catastrophic and they would be crucified in the mainstream press. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

microsoft release a broken OS...

never...

Lol that one "dev" post had me convinced until I got to the sentence about titanfall that contradicted itself and made absolutely no sense lol

bish gets all the credit :)
I think this personifies this entire situation quite well...

I don't know is it is related but MS engineer on digital foundry article said something like "each game has their own OS on disk", I don't know if it can be an issue. The exact quote:

Quote:
We can do things like update the operating system on the system side of things while retaining very good compatibility with the portion running on the titles, so we're not breaking back-compat with titles because titles have their own entire operating system that ships with the game.

So Marcus is confirming that the great prothecy regarding the ass storm also involves more storms? The plot thickens. The plot intensifies.

Guys its a launch console, we should be expecting problems. It'll be resolved, just like how a bunch of PS4 features don't work out of the box, don't be surprised for PS4 issues aswell.

we should be expect this as launch-day nextgen adapters

It was a "not broke, don't fix it" situation, but then they decided everything was going to be powered by Skype. I'd guess migrating to a Skype framework is what is causing the problems in the first place.
That does sound feasible.

But reading the article, the problems are more than just voice over IP. Its sending invites, getting achievements, adding friends, migrating parties, the works. Or are all of those features dependent upon some core libraries that are shitting up the place?

When it rains, it pours. So long as the shit train can't be traced back to you.
For some of these guys it's therapeutic to have a release outlet.

Or everyone is just making fun of the first guy claiming to be a xbox dev without proof...

I don't think many people did not expect problems, but these sound really bad. I mean worse then normal (at least for MS). Sony is staying really tight lipped and had the balls to show their OS live on stage so I don't know at this point who is in a worse position. I am getting a PS4, and fully expect it to be a shit show of a launch. My only expectation is to be able to play Killzone Singleplayer, so if they fail at that one thing then I will be pissed. Other then that I expect growing pains for the first few months.

Fair enough. I'm not plugged into the gaming industry enough to know the severity of these issues relative to similar product launches (I would think its tough to compare as these machines are doing a lot more things under the hood and across the network than any previous generation of console)

But in terms of large-scale distributed software systems in general? These types of problems are more common than people think.

Like I said, no excuses for MS. If they launch and these problems are present on day one, they deserve every ounce of vitriol that gets leveled at them.

Oh sure. We expect launch consoles, but I love the idea of people thinking it'll be a perfect launch for Microsoft "Because they make consoles" and that VOIP is perfect because "They own Skype".

Because "Patch Tuesday" still exists, and Skype is updated just as often. The only thing MS has done to Skype since buying it is shutdown MSN Messenger, and bundle in the fucking Bing crap during the installer.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
WTF?!? There's literally no actual information in that exchange to base a thread on.

I say that because people thought there was another bomb to drop, and many people are assuming this OS stuff posted in the OP is it. Tweet suggests this crazy ride isn't over yet though even with this thread out there.

It doesn't imply WHAT the info is. It DOES imply that there is more info beyond this thread and the 720p thread to come.

Completely agree with you dude. The complexity they're going for is going to cause problems. Hell being a web dev (which isn't close to being a dev on an OS) I run into problems when launching shit and really it's not that complicated at all. When you're talking about a million people turning their consoles on at the same time and booting up and using features that are completely new, shit's gonna happen.

Carnival of stupid levels are being reached. None of those "devs" are real. No chance. This nonsense is insane, it's all fear mothering and cryptic bs, well find out in 2 weeks.
