Hmmm I get about 20 more fps if I drop 1440p to 1080p which should mean GPU does matter somewhat.
If by smooth you mean 60, just wait until you really get into the game. It will run like a turd.
It's a wonder developers even include graphics options in games anymore. People seem to refuse to use them and just instant go off in a huff if they can't run everything absolutely maxed out.
The game tesellates *E V E R Y T H I N G* on very high environmental detail. That requires ridiculous hardware to pull off, so just bloody turn it down. It's not an affront to your honor if you turn the option down.

Eh, I'm running a i7 4770 and a 780, so I'm not worried. This sounds good enough for me.
Even a 4960x@5ghz and Tri-SLI Titan system can't run this game maxed out at 60fps. It's a serious CPU optimization issue that needs to be fixed. This is not a case of CPU/GPU usage maxing out and getting framedrops.
You have two choices. You can turn down the settings from Very High to High and play the game at 60 FPS or you can keep complaining about it on a message board while nobody does a thing about it. Ubisoft clearly demonstrated that they have no concern for this issue and it will most likely never be fixed.
. This isn't right because every game in my collection so far has no troubles running at medium to high settings at decent resolutions.
What's this may I ask?
So is there any solution to the 30fps lock with v-sync? I'm running a titan with the newest drivers in w8 and when I force triple buffering through control panel or inspector I still get the same problem...

1200p maxed out / GTX 780 / i5-2500k / barely 40 or 50 FPS.

Thanks but no thanks. Game did not even look especially impressive.

i don't see a terrible port at all.
the TB setting in the NVCP doesn't do anything for Direct3D games, it's an OpenGL setting. You have to use D3DOverrider to fix the games broken V-Sync.
that setting is for OpenGL only, you need to use D3Doverider, or if you want a newer program use radeonpro (it works on nvidia cards too) it has a setting for forcing tripple buffering.
Open your eyes. The port is terrible because it does not properly utilize a multi-core system. The game was designed to work with 5 year old CPUs and dual core systems. It's a fucking joke.
Yes, you should have no tearing and fps between 30 and 60.I don't know anything about D3Doverrider, only had my pc since August. Will this eliminate the crazy 60 plummet to 30 fps thing with no inbetween on vsync? Or get rid of the mass screentearing with vsync off?
Yes, you should have no tearing and fps between 30 and 60.
Deactivate vsync in the game and force vsync and triple buffer with D3Doverrider instead.
Ok, old engine not very good usage of cpu, i get it.
And it may be a big bottleneck for people on the higher end side of things.
I wouldn't call it terrible but whatever.
What i am trying to say is that the game runs fine, at least on my pc, same or better graphical quality that ps4, similar performance... that's all.
It runs good on the city, better than AC3.
Benchmark with fraps.
Running around and fighting some guys in the middle of Havana:
The ship battle at the beginning of the game:
Running through the jungle behind and fight with the assassin.
The settings:
EVERYTHING at maximum (but AA and with no Vsync whatsoever).
This is with a GTX660, again, a gpu similar to PS4's.
Why is this terrible optimization? Because it's not 60 fps? WTF! PS4 is 30 fps, i don't see a terrible port at all.

Should be no problem leaving it open. For me only fraps got in the way. That's great man, thanks very much!
Do I need to shut down nvidia controll panel/will it get in d3d's way?
runs absolutely fine for me and i have a mid tier pc
3770k
gtx 670
16 gig ram

I don't get why people say Ubi ports are that bad. I've never had problems with AC games and they were without fail some of the best looking games I played on PC in the year they came out. AC3 I couldn't max out, but that's fine cause my rig isn't top of the line.
Far Cry 3 I could run almost at max, SC: Blacklist fully maxed, the Rayman games obviously didn't give me any problems.
Guess I'll wait and see with AC4, but I expect I'll manage just fine.
I must be in the minority because I'm playing this game at 1440p with all but 2 settings maxed and it's a constant 55-60 fps, runs way better than ACIII.
My rig has a gtx 690 and i7 and I can confirm that the optimization is poor. One of the most taxing features seems to be the HBAO+. Turning it from low to high drops an average of 10 fps.
GTX 670 (4GB)
8GB RAM
i5 3570k
1920x1080p (distance such that no AA = OKish)
How do you think it would run?
(Would love a demo....)
Leave HBAO off and set environmental detail to high instead of very high and you'll have no problems.
60fps if I do that, you think?
