DRIVECLUB |OT2| You Can't Rush Evolution

I still don't really understand drift scoring. I *think* it's wheel speed x slip angle, as I seem to score much lower if I do more controlled drifts in contrast to mashing the throttle and lighting the rears up.

Doing the Merc drift event in the latest DLC last night, really struggling in the AMG saloon, drifts were good on almost every turn but still falling short by at least a thousand points. Got in the AMG GT, did a sloppy as hell run and hit the requirement straight away!! Very odd.

Sense of speed just isn't nearly as impressive in exterior view, doesn't feel as immersive either. I'm more of a dash cam guy myself, but switch to bonnet cam and cockpit depending on mood, event and vehicle (some cars have stunning cockpits lol), chase cam only for drift events.

I tend to use the first person view exclusively for the immersion and feel of speed, even for drift events. I guess I should try if I get better scores in drifting with chase cam though. So far the 1st rankings, and most of the 2nd ones as well, have been out of reach for me.

I find drift events so much easier in chase cam. I've won quite a few drift challenges using it so it. I just find it's easier to keep an eye on your positioning and degree of traction compared to the other views.

Awesome, got 585/585 stars, first time i got 100% since i bought the game! The last 3 events i had to do were the two VUHL ones and Dusk 'til Dawn. The VUHL time trial was pretty infuriating until i just started taking corners very slowly, the short VUHL tour wasn't too bad. I actually beat Dusk 'til Dawn on my first try today, after 3-4 unsuccessful attempts over the last week. Well, i only came in 2nd, since i didn't want to risk making a mistake while trying to catch up to the Pagani Zonda in front of me, so i just defended my 2nd place for half the race while driving conservatively, but i was happy all the same. And as it turned out, i'm in good company on the leaderboards:

driveclub_20150311123toug2.png

Also, to anyone sill having problems with Venom Hot Lap 2, keep at it! I think HL2 is quite a bit more forgiving than HL1, just have a look at this clip of when i got the final star on it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gd7OWKpYzA8

As you can see, my driving in this clip is really sloppy, i botched a bunch of easy corners that i can normally hit much better (especially the first one), but still managed to catch up and overtake the ghost in the last third of the lap with proper throttle control in the corners, even though my lines were all over the place. I was actually surprised i still made it. I think HL1 had much less margin for error. If you beat that, you can easily do HL2. If you're getting frustrated, just take a break and come back another day, that often does wonders.

Unrelated to that, check out this funny stunt that happened to me:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPZA9sHNpLI

I play single races in cockpit view, but i'm using chase cam while going after tour stars, don't judge me. ;(

I'm taking a breather for now, but I'll definitely try the chase cam for drift events once the new tours and cars are available.

CLR_CMOS I demand you post a video of where you're deploying KERS in the C-X75 on Sentraltind. The time gap is just too much. I am struggling to make any time up and I have a lot of fastest times on that track.

I've just been going for venom hot lap 2 world record using a wheel which trust me is hard, my old time if 1.16.6 was using pad and external cam, decided to go hardcore and use wheel and dash cam managed to get 2nd in world and a 1.16.3, hopefully get into the 1.15s soon as I should done it a few goes. I'm uploading video now I'll share link when finished.

God damn dude you are a legend.

Anybody know if Evolution have any plans to purge the World Leaderboards?

I really can't see the point in even having leaderboards if so many of them are going to be topped by glitched/cheated times.

Imagine if Evo had you set the times for upcoming dlc tour events. People will break their controllers.

Where are you seeing glitch/cheated times?

I wonder how Evo do set the challenge times - is it just the AI doing the course on different difficulty levels to give the 1,2 & 3 stars? I wonder how the AI driving lines are set too - could be that their done by analysis (computer repeatedly drives the lap and eventually finds the quickest way) or by calculation.

Yesterday I looked on some of the leaderboards for the times for some of the races in the basic tour. Quite often at the top there would be times 2, 3 or even 4 minutes faster than the majority of the rest of the times.

There are bugged times all over leaderboards but rushy is aware of these and they are going to delete all of them :) there on the new dlc as well if you look at the midnight dusk till dawn event I should be on top with a 12.12 or summit, however there are a few above new on 4mins ha. It's not that they glitches the times it's a bug within the game.

Thing is, I can see about another half a second I could shave off of it. But nerves and frustration stopped me from doing better this time around. I might give it another go down the track with no pressure and see how I do.

Fuck that was fun, though! Now I can finally complete the rest of the DLC (that's the thing about wanting to complete everything consecutively!).

Edit: PS, bumper cam all the way. Have such a better indication of how quickly/slowly the car moves through corners. I'm even noticing that I'm doing a lot of weight transfer-type maneuvers just because it feels right with that POV. Don't really get that with any of the others (with the exception of the in-car ones, I guess.

I've had the issue with a challenge I put out based on the night lights tour event - The actual challenge is for 4 laps around Kobago with the Atom (there's 2 of us with times in the 6 minute range) yet for anyone doing it now the number of laps is set to 1. I get lots of single lap race challenges which make me think this is an ongoing issue.

Just look at the update list, evo in my view are the best developers in gaming, the support they have given Driveclub is amazing.

I do all drift events in chase cam, it's just much easier to keep track of where exactly your car is.

Another great update. Really looking forward to the replays.

@Rushy:
I understand that it is easier to play DriveClub with a controller than with a wheel. Is that by design or more of an unfortunate coincidence? Are there plans to even-out the playing field for wheel players?

How is it easier? I thought wheel is where the advantage was at.

Better throttle control with pedals.

This will make a lot of people happy.

Yup. This is awesome for me.

I wonder if the new brightness options are intended to be a fix for the brightness/contrast issue when using dash/cockpit view...or has that been fixed independently?

Either way, great update. Being able to use photo-mode at any point during a replay sounds great.

@Rushy

Thank you so much for the amazing new update coming next week, especially adding the option to adjust screen brightness in-game.

In the new replay feature, will the cars wheels/tires blur in motion like they do in all of your trailers and other racing games like Forza or Gran Turismo 5/6?
I only ask as they dont appear to blur in-game.

Thanks again for the incredible post support for this amazing game.

Based on kie25's comment, it doesn't seem like the wheel has a disadvantage:

... meanwhile, after more than a couple of hours trying I'm still stuck at 1.20.4xx using the controller... UGH

Lol friends of mine were asking the same thing so I tested it out. The controller is competetive in times but not in ease of use (not the best words to use) or smoothness. It just felt more stressful I guess is a good way to put it like I had to work harder to do the same run. With a wheel you get smooth movements in turns, throttle and braking but on a controller it feels like some janky cyborg learning to walk but it is competetive as we see a lot of the top times on controller.

I was referring to this post:

The attachment is Rushy's tweet he mentions.

Personally I think there's pluses and minuses to both - the pad gives you the ability to countersteer quicker but the wheel potentially allows finer movement, more precise throttle and tactile feedback once you get used to it.

Great update with a couple of nice surprises. Can't wait to see top drifters' replays since people will actually have to properly drift now.

My wishlist for upcoming updates:

- no-damage toggle in settings (for replays)
- starting position listed at the end of every MP race
- MP middle-of-the-race quitters should at the very least be listed as such at the end of the race, instead of just vanishing. Some sort of penalty wouldn't go amiss either, since they are so common - a 2 minute ban from joining another MP session or something like that.

For the people saying wheel is easier than pad, you may be correct if your not pushing the car to the max, once you start maxing out a car the pad is allot more forgiving, rushy has already confirmned pad is easier a few times on twitter and as a user of both i agree. If you look at leaderboards they are dominated by pad users.

Does it tell you if users are using pads or wheels on the leader boards? I thought it didn't have that information? I feel like most of the world record times I've watched on YouTube are from people claiming they're using wheels.

All of the details for update 1.12

Man, between this and the official 2.50 update, Sony and teams are doing work! Nice!

Also, are we ever getting split times added during multi-lap races? I'm pretty sure I've yet to see that, and it's something I've really liked in other games as it allows you to see yourself getting quicker and quicker as you complete more laps. Has anyone ever heard of anything on that front?
