Cross-network play has been the number-one most requested feature our community has asked for since Rocket League was first announced on Xbox One, and now that we are able to pursue complete online unity on all platforms, today’s announcement is a dream come true.

It seems they mean Xbox and PC only for now, with PS4 coming possibly in the future.

Here is the full quote:

Welcome to the new age of online gaming!
Officially confirmed by our friends at Microsoft earlier today, Rocket League and Xbox One cross-network play will soon become a reality!
To say that the team here at Psyonix is both honored and excited to have Rocket League as the first cross-network game is a massive understatement. Cross-network play has been the number-one most requested feature our community has asked for since Rocket League was first announced on Xbox One, and now that we are able to pursue complete online unity on all platforms, today’s announcement is a dream come true.
Expect to see Rocket League cross-network play working on Xbox One and PC later this spring, with information regarding other platforms coming soon.

That's so awesome. I wish this would happen with all third party online games. Kudos to Psyonix for delivering.

Probably worth noting that the Xbox team are now open to cross-network play between all platforms now, too. No word on PS4, looks like it's up to Sony.

Cross-Network Play
First, in addition to natively supporting cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 games that use Xbox Live, we’re enabling developers to support cross-network play as well. This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks – including other console and PC networks.

Of course, it’s up to game developers to support this feature, and Xbox Live players will always have the option of choosing to play only with other Xbox Live players. We’re thrilled to confirm that Psyonix’s Rocket League will be one of the first games to take advantage of this new capability by enabling cross-network play between Xbox One and PC players, with an open invitation for other networks to participate as well.

holy SHIT that's insane! As someone who just started playing on Xbox One for the first, time, really relieved that this game will for sure have a long shelf life.

Is this the first time a game has done this?

Technically no, FFXI was playable on 360, PS2 (and 3 with BC) and PC together, but after that Microsoft took their ball and went home. It's an MMO so it's kind of cheating, but it did keep XIV from 360 and Xbone eventually.

Wow. That's an enormous announcement.

Honestly might be the biggest announcement this generation.

edit: awwwww

So excited! Is this a first for PS4/XBOX gamers?

So much love for Psyonix and proud that Microsoft is letting this happen.

Edit: that ending comment tho. Guess we'll have to wait and hear more.

Damn, they have it worded that it says all platforms, but maybe you guys are right and its just Xbox one and PC. Mods edit my title if that turns out to be true please.

The title is VERY misleading no?

It's an Xbox and Psyonix announcement that Xbox is natively supporting Xbox Live play between W10 and X1 now, as well as the new capability of supporting other networks such as other OSs and other consoles.

There's an "open invitation" for other networks to enable cross play with Xbox Live, but for now Psyonix and Xbox are just announcing W10 and XBL cross play.

Or did I read it wrong?

Expect to see Rocket League cross-network play working on Xbox One and PC later this spring, with information regarding other platforms coming soon.

Thats interesting wording. So Cross Play with PC and not PS4?

So how does that work?

Cross play on consoles just matching you with PC people?

This is great! But kinda weird as I vaguely remember a dev talking on Twitter that it was Microsoft the wall between this kind of crossplay.

Oh. PC X1 only? Disappointing but still good.

To be fair, PSN isn't confirmed as being on board yet:

"Expect to see Rocket League cross-network play working on Xbox One and PC later this spring, with information regarding other platforms coming soon."

And if you read the MS post, it sounds like the ball is now in Sony's court for if they want to support this:

"We’re thrilled to confirm that Psyonix’s Rocket League will be one of the first games to take advantage of this new capability by enabling cross-network play between Xbox One and PC players, with an open invitation for other networks to participate as well."
