2Gb DDR3 for background processor = 256MB. That's a decent chunk of memory for a background CPU, the general consensus here was it was an embedded ARMv7 with a few MB of memory. PS4 should be able to do more in the background than initially thought.

if you think of it, small sub-processor in PS4 has the same amount of RAM as PS3. :)

Do people really not know the difference between GB and Gb?

It's less about not knowing, and more about it being the internet. You'd see people and articles post the 8GB GDDR5 RAM as 8Gb, so people get used to it that when they see an article saying GB or Gb, it is assumed that both mean gigabyte.
 
So the PS4s bundled HDMI is causing the problems at the back port? It would be nice to see how a faulty cable that is pushing the pins looks like.
