This should be helpful. You're fine with 970 (but with a few compromises).
I have a 970 too but im confused on what Forceware is haha. Would love to get some more info and a download link if necessary.

Get the latest drivers.
You can get NVIDIA inspector here and AC:U settings in it here.
Be sure to enable 16x AF in it, too.
edit: I switched to in-game FXAA because someone mentioned here that it has the temporal element. Looks good and no drops compared to forced FXAA via Nvidia Inspector.

video comparing fxaa/msaa/txaa in that order. some things to note :
-i used the highest shadowplay bitrate but its still not lossless, the video compression does hide some of the shimmering. fxaa/msaa benefit from this far more than txaa.
-shadowplay hits the framerate harder when using msaa/txaa
-this is not the best or worst case for general aliasing in unity. the worst case areas will naturally skew things much more in favor of txaa.
So you're saying its safe to pick this up on PC now?
I tried again to play my PS4 version and its just really difficult to enjoy. Visuals are blurry and framerate is still pretty awful, definitely feels like 20 something most of the time.
I'm fine with FXAA, I just want a near 60fps experience at 1080p. If thats possible on a 970 then I would pick this up for as cheap as I can find it.
Yes. There was a new driver update yesterday which boosted performance. I got around 50-55 fps on average so I turned off soft shadows and now it's around 60 fps almost all the time. The lowest I get now is 49 and the highest 83. I have a 970 and play with everything on highest settings (high on shadows) and FXAA at 1080p.

What are your specs ?
I tried the new drivers last night after not touching the game for a couple of months. It seems to run better overall, but SLI is still broken. Huge amounts of texture flickering.
There's a manual fix floating around online which mostly works, but the flickering is still prevalent during cutscenes.[/QU
Find a 1.3 exe online that's what ive been using till they fix the 1.4 one. No issues with using the 1.3 and texture flickering
I get several freezes in the first few minutes of a session. It freezes for 1-2 seconds when I first get spotted, first get in a fight and do my first counter. It's typical Ubisoft jank. Thankfully it doesn't do it again until I restart the game.
What kind of stuttering exacly? What's your rig?Has anyone been able to reduce stuttering? It is crippling and has kept me from completing missions.

After the initial clusterfuck, now I don't have any problems with the game, especially with the latest NVIDIA drivers, performance is drastically improved.
My rig, for reference.
I am using SLI 680's. If I disable SLI, my frames tank even worse. I average 20 FPS, with SLI :/
Like I said, the 2GB of VRAM is probably holding you back as things are constantly being swapped. What texture setting are you running?
Nvidia recommends Low Textures for 2GB of VRAM.

One helpful gaffer told me to disable the intro videos and that got rid of the texture flickering for me.
I will confirm that this works wonders.
Also, those Patch 5 notes mention almost nothing relating to performance -___-
Textures have been set to low (don't know why they weren't), but it still hasn't helped much in missions. Can anyone provide their Nvidia Inspector config for SLI, please? I cannot go above 25 FPS and it's killing me.
Prior to upgrading I was using two 2GB 670s and also found the game to be virtually unplayable regardless of settings. I ultimately just gave up on it until I moved up to a 4GB 980.
So even worse than watch dogs? Damn.
if tessellation isnt included in this patch, is it safe to assume its been shelved?
How do you do that? One helpful gaffer told me to disable the intro videos and that got rid of the texture flickering for me.
I hope those aren't full patch notes for the PC release...
Also, this from the live updates page:
"PC-specific fixes that address performance, connectivity and general stability issues will be available when the PC update releases later this week."

I don't think the patch is coming today; it's 6pm in Ubisoft Land.
Technically, they said later this week, so tomorrow seems likely. But it is coming, that is for sure.
Here are the details of Patch 5. This patch is rolling out to both Xbox One and PS4 players today (February 18th). PC Players can expect the patch on February 19th.

Technically the 19th was "later this week" when the post was, uh, posted, but it clearly isn't happening today.
Is it surprising at all, though?
Apparently Ubi's right hand doesn't talk to the left. Ubi forums:

I'm sure they are putting the finishing touches on tesselation and will get 1.5 out within the next couple of days for all of us PC users.....................
patch is announced as delayed but no mention of how long.
Oh man, seriously? Ubi really hates PC.
What's in the other chests anyway? I'm not short of money.
I remember a lot of character content being locked out by the companion app so good news on that front, I can actually buy some new gear for Arno. I didn't bother with any apps, club comps or whatever else.
So how is it? I'm still conflicted about buying this game.Patch 5 is now up on PC. Downloading now, let's see what changed...
