Yes, definitely. If you have any sort of eye for the tech aspect of games, you will see a big difference.
Downsampling for the game was announced on the day of the Pro's announcement!
I can't be the only one wondering at what point did we get to praising a stable 30 fps performance on consoles as a remarkable achievement, can I?
What open world games look better at this level of performance?
The Witcher 3 is the only one that comes close, but that's only if we're comparing the PC version.

When a good amount of open world games and even some linear games can't even hit a stable 30? And on top of that this game looks better visually than all those gamesI can't be the only one wondering at what point did we get to praising a stable 30 fps performance on consoles as a remarkable achievement, can I?
Also worthy of praise is a marked increase in texture filtering quality. Lower levels of anisotropic filtering on base hardware can stand out on a 1080p image - but the effect is much more pronounced at 4K. Thankfully this is not an issue with Horizon.

The bar has been reset. Your move Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica.
This downsamples right?
"Horizon Zero dawn will receive a small day zero patch that will build upon PlayStation 4 Pro support, adding a Performance mode which will favor smoother framerates while delivering higher visual fidelity in the 1080p mode. This mode is available for both 4K and 1080p displays."
Yes, definitely. If you have any sort of eye for the tech aspect of games, you will see a big difference. The boost to clarity is very much noticeable and it actually sorta makes me miss playing on a 1080p set. Playing a game in anything lower than 4K on a 4K set is super obvious looking at times while downsampling to a 1080p screen always looked great.

If I get a pro but not a 4K tv will I see enough difference over a reg PS4 on my 1080p tv?

You have to take into consideration what is on screen. Hitting a stable 30fps is not impressive in and of itself, it's when you do it within the context of a game like this.I can't be the only one wondering at what point did we get to praising a stable 30 fps performance on consoles as a remarkable achievement, can I?
God of War will top it. Then Days Gone will top that and Last of Us 2 after that. Sony's AAA titles keep raising the bar on a technical level. It's crazy.
Yes it will down sample to 1080p and also day one patch includes unlocked framerate at 1080p too on the Pro
so, no downsampling for 1080p PRO owners? you didn't mention that in the video or the written articleYou have to take into consideration what is on screen. Hitting a stable 30fps is not impressive in and of itself, it's when you do it within the context of a game like this.
4K means shit to me. Quality 1080p sets finally got to a price range where I felt it was time to upgrade. My 720p set is in the perfect range (2008, less than 15ms input lag, S-Video in and 240p support) to be great for retro consoles so it's still getting work.Haha, this made me laugh for some reason. I don't mean to be an ass, you should've ended your post with #tvgoals
As an owner of a 8 year old 46" 1080p TV, I need a good 4K tv myself. And I'm so Bummed can't afford one right now.
Welp, after getting a 55" 4K TV during BF, I guess that seals the deal for what my upgrade will be this year
I guess I need a PS4Pro.
I can trade a 500gb slim for it, so it should help.
Question not directly related: does the AV amplifier need to be compatible 4K or is it pass through in that regard. My current one is a nice older Denon that is not 3D compatible afaik.

With an open world that looks as good as this? C'mon, on PS4's hardware it's a remarkable achievement. I don't think there's even a PC game that looks as good as this, and I'm mainly a PC gamer.
Bingo. I'm personally a lot more concerned with having 60fps than high visual fidelity; and with what they've achieved here at 30FPS I'd love to have seen how it'd look at 60 (because it'd surely be quite a thing nonetheless) but still, it's... Quite something. You have to take into consideration what is on screen. Hitting a stable 30fps is not impressive in and of itself, it's when you do it within the context of a game like this.
Dam. Gonna have to be super convincing with my wife hehe.Yup, you'll need to upgrade your AVR. Or go HDMI direct into the tv and optical back out to AVR and lose lossless audio....
A real sophie's choice there.

Also important is the consistency of performance during traversal in the open world. Producing a sandbox game of this scale is not an insignificant task - many similar titles struggle to maintain solid performance during traversal as the CPU needs to stream in and decompress open world data on the fly, while continuing to process game logic and prepare instructions for the GPU. It's for this reason that titles like Fallout 4 and Just Cause 3 can hitch and stutter when the player does nothing more than move from A to B through the environment. Crucially, Horizon Zero Dawn is immune to this issue - making your way through the open world is a super-smooth experience regardless of the PlayStation hardware you're using.
Didn't know we had a clairvoyant among us! Praise be - On a more serious note; if you look at what we've seen of Days Gone then it's certainly not gonna top Horizon. No clue about GoW nor TLOU though.
Dam. Gonna have to be super convincing with my wife hehe.
Any recommendation under $400 (even under $300 if possible) for AVR?
Well paced, let's say.
Seems like a tech marvel.
Still not seeing a compelling reason to pick up a Pro for now, which in my case is a very great thing. Certainly, I can see a difference between the image quality during a direct comparison, but I'm pleased that Sony is largely sticking to the promise of "no games hampered on regular PS4."

To me the best part by far is this:
30 fps =/= 30 fps
Honestly, my Pro is very quiet - much more so than my original PS4.Digital Foundry:
Any comment regarding PS4 pro NOISE level when running this game in 4k?
Is it UC4 noise levels?
I thought Days Gone looked pretty insane last year. People are sleeping on that one I think.
