THE NEC,
BIRMINGHAM

If you're coming to EGX and you want to be in contact with other gaffers for meetups etc, PM me your number and I'll add you to the EGX 2015 GAF Whatsapp group.

EGX 2015 is almost here & it's happening in Birmingham this year.

The highlight this year has to be Morpheus, VIVE and Oculus Rift being there and duking it out for your hard earned cash.

Sign up to experience HTC VIVE at EGX here!
Sign up to book a slot for Playstation VR (open 1pm Friday 18th)

Hopefully there'll be less queues this year because of the move of venue from London to Birmingham, but I'd still expect to spend most of your time waiting to play.

I was expecting more vr games listed tbh

I imagine they'll mostly just use tech demos other than Oculus Rift which has been demoing a lot previously with games like Superhot, Alien Isolation, Elite Dangerous etc - so they'll largely be back I think

I've heard we might need to pre-book a timeslot to get a go on Morpheus, so I'll update with any info on that

from the EGX site:

It's worth noting there's a sign-up process to play Project Morpheus, which means all slots across the four-day show will be pre-booked. There will soon be a dedicated site where you can pop your name down, and you need to be 18 years old or over.

I read that as 'escorts'.

Me too,

On the subject of queues - there won't be any in the venue as everyone will be backed up on the M42 trying to park outside the shed hosting the event :)

(Salty because I'm in Aus and will miss this).

I'll be trying mostly indie games or smaller titles because the lines for some of the big games are very long. Plus there's much more variation.

I'm going to be driving into Birmingham each day - out of interest, does anybody know of any free or cheap parking relatively nearby?

Birmingham and then into International for the NEC by train or to International? I can't help you with the free parking part.

A lot will have changed since I went a few years ago. But by the end of the day most of the queues had dissipated. I'd say go to talks and the indie booth in the middle of the day then do the big releases at the end. VR might be more difficult because the demos are so long.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
I was going to go this year as I was going to be in London in September anyway, then they went and put it in Birmingham so... oh well eh!

Yeah, i'll be there too.

Last year, my schedule was usually:

- Enter and find a popular game which usually has queues during the day (Splatoon, Halo, COD, Halo at the start of each day last year.)

- Look to see if any other games have short queues and pounce.

- Wander into the Indie Area.

- Eat food while watching whatever tripe Microsoft have on Stage.

- Look at more games.

- See if Nintendo had any last-minute giveaways near the close of the show.

- Find games which are closing and allow me one last go before the show ends.

Not sure if this is allowed on GAF but I've got a superpass I'm willing to sell if anyone wants it? Sadly cannot make it. Tried to organise at least travelling down for one day after I seen Shu was going to be there but I simply can't fit it in (about 5 hours of driving for me). No hotels for me even to try and drive down for Fri night and go home on Sat night. Those that have rooms are a few miles away and are around if not over £100 for one night. Don't fancy sleeping in the car overnight lol, and I don't know anyone in Birmingham to shack up with.

Sad, as I've been the past few years and this year looks to be the best.

Super Pass (4-day Early Entry) 1 ticket

Paid £60 but I'll give it to someone on GAF for £30 if anyone is interested?

I'm driving up from Reading - I hadn't looked into anything yet, so I'm not sure what you mean by International, but I just saw that I can park for £12/day... I might just bite the bullet and do that

The NEC is not near Birmingham City Centre, but is right next to Birmingham international Airport Station (which provides a terminal shuttle for the airport). The NEC is nearer Solihull than the city centre. This might constrain free parking.

You might want to drive into the city, search for free parking (if it exists) and then get a short train to Birmingham International station.

some indiegames have done good use of vr. most games dont.
thats my problem.

and i think hololens would do a much better use of VR/AR. But thats just me.

Gonna be there Saturday. I'm gonna burst into tears if Dark Souls 3 isn't there.

I'm hoping I can sign up for the Morpheus demonstration.

4 Day Super Pass for me.

I'm looking forward to seeing Vive in action considering all the hands on info I've read.

I really wish Bethesda was continuing as a partner so FO4 was there!

AssassiN

got the wrong hit
I can unfortunately for me only do the Thursday this year and I'm coming right down and back again in the one day so its going to be tiring for me!

I would of liked to go for all 4 days, but couldn't get a hotel and the 4 day pass/some day passes had sold out. So Friday had to do. Hopefully Shu will be at the Morpheus Dev session on Friday apart from his on Dev talk on Saturday.

I ended up missing this every year because of uni. Now that it is hosted in Birmingham I can't go :/ It's a pity because it looks like it's going to be good this year.

I'll be there on the friday, can't wait.

Birmingham International rail station is right next door to the NEC. Which might be useful if you're heading up from reading.

I've decided to drive up to Hampton-in-Arden, park there for free (according to Parkopedia, so I hope so) and get the train in for £2.

I think I made a bad decision in driving every day.
Stupid Birmingham.

Parking is free there.

It's not a massive car park though, spaces won't exactly be plentiful if lots of people have the same idea.
