So no Polaris, no Zen, no HBM. I guess this thing will atleast be 4 TF?
Okay, this sounds a lot more like what I expected.
The commitment to keeping ALL PS4 games compatible on both systems, with only cosmetic upgrades for NEO Mode (and not new gameplay features, or entire games) is key, and I hope they stick with that. Otherwise some of the goodwill they've managed with the PS4 so far may start to erode.
There was 10x more last gen systems out when we got hit with all the cross-gen games when the PS4/Bone gen began. Take a look at how garbage the last gen versions were optimized.
Neo + Morpheus
PS4K + PSVR
This gen will already be 3 years by the time this systems come out .
Also what are these well optimised titles unless you only counting first party stuff .
As time goes on we were going to see drop in PS4X1 games either way .
It doesn't seem like that big a spec bump.
"Neo Mode" better mean 1080p/60fps for every fucking game! No more bullshit. this should have been the standard for the reg PS4.
Not with those specs tbh
If anything the CPU bottleneck might be worse on the neo than the ps4.
Why not? The ps4 has most of its games run at 1080p at 30fps so an upgrade should at least hit 1080p/60fps or else its useless.
this doesnt sound like the jump I had hoped for.
Graphics guys, how big of a difference in graphics can we expect or is the jump so small that we only will see better frame rate?
The GPU is clocked 111 mhz higher. So if you factor that in you see a close to 4 TF boost?3.7 TFLOPS on GCN 1.0.

I don't really get what's terrible. Even if you decide to keep your regular PS4, you are losing absolutely nothing. Those who want PS4k now have that option too.
You can't live your life in a constant state of envy and feeling inadequacy just because you perceive someone else to have a little bit nicer gadgets than you. No matter how far you go in life, there will always be someone with more material wealth. You need to learn contentment or you'll always be miserable.
some of the hyperbole "hey to 15fps for the base game" It's clear based on this the OG PS4 will be the base and the Neo version will have some minor performance upgrades. This is mostly about getting 4k out the door.
Some of you act like your old PS4 is now completely useless.
Unless it is $200 less, I doubt it will continue to sell well.
If the specs are right, the GPU will be an updated architecture, double the compute units, and a clock speed boost on top of that. Doesn't sound small to me. Not 4K ready or anything, but not small.
Given this quote:
I don't think it'd be unreasonable to assume that a NEO-only game would simply not pass certification at Sony before release, hence no games exclusive to the NEO.

some choice quotes:
The problem is that games are probably going to run like shit unless we shell out for the new model. I just got a PS4 late last year, I'm not about to buy ANOTHER PS4 just so I can play games adequately. If a game runs like shit on my original I refuse to buy it.
Indeed.
Because this bump is tiny. The CPU is still bad and is still going to bottleneck, potentially worse than the OG.
The CPU is still too weak
Different textures and assets, probably not. But I could see the NEO mode using more sophisticated lighting models, physics, particle effects and impacts to non-essential things like enemy death animations, blood splatter, etc.
Not with those specs tbh
I greatly look forward to trying to build a competitive PC for the same price.
Assuming the GPU architecture is just the same as AMD's 3xx series,it looks between a 380x and a 390 in raw power, which would at least go a fair way to making games a higher resolution. Maybe 1440p upscaled to 4k for most games, but native 4k for the less demanding?
Devs are still going to target PS4/X1 as a baseline.

I dunno, not really a big jump, is it? I know they have to counter Nintendo but this feels completely unnecessary. I will probably end up buying it but I wish I didn't have to.
Based on what?
Pretty much. This gen is JUST getting started and we're seeing some really nice, well optimised titles for PS4/XB1. I really think this will impact PS4 momentum.
