Del Toro is writing, producing and directing the currently untitled film. The otherworldly love story is set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America circa 1963.
Del Toro had been weighing several films, but this mystery project was always a top priority, according to sources close to the pic. Shooting will start sometime this summer.
Spencer is on board to reprise her role in The Divergent Series: Allegiant and is also set to play God in The Shack, which bows later this year. She recently filmed Marc Webbs Gifted opposite Chris Evans.
