Oh, I plan on playing it on PC, no doubt. There's just no question that's exactly MS's goal in this. Not to secure an Xbox One exclusive but to prevent a (potentially) popular game from appearing on their main competitor's platform.

Microsoft pays the expected equivalent of however much EA would make by launching a PS4 version. But if those sales never exist, extending exclusivity directly screws Respawn out of money, correct?
Do we know all the details on how the EA Partners contracts work?
I think that Titanfall won a shiton of awards has also do to with this. Maybe they just didn't believe in it that much beforehand.

Honestly, I would be surprised if they see any of this money. It would be a separate deal entirely. EA bought the exclusive publishing rights to Respawn's first title. What they do after that is basically up to them, as long as the terms of the deal with Respawn are honoured. I'm guessing that a multiplatform release including PlayStation platforms was not part of the original deal, and Respawn's management just made the assumption that EA wouldn't sell exclusivity rights beyond six months or a year because it would lock them out of PS4 revenue.
MS have a say namely by offering a shitload of money. If they offer the same for Titanfall 2 to EA or Respawn then the same thing will happen.
This contract isnt as clear as you believe.

That's if Respawn decides to stay with EA as a publishing partner for their next game. I wouldn't be surprised if many at Respawn are pissed off at the news.

Respawn can just choose to not make another Titanfall (or not let EA publish it). The studio owns the IP.
