Came in here to see this and was not disappointed.

Think MS is much more likely. More desperate and much more cash to throw around.
I also seriously doubt Sony is really itching to invest in another auteur that takes forever to make games.

In the chance that they did, I doubt they'd give him the level of freedom he was enjoying at Konami before things went down.

Mobile-focused weird ass augmented reality game incoming.

Very few companies have the capital to throw at an auteur like him who's notorious for throwing out large chunks of work that isn't up to his standards. His work ethic isn't exactly in line with most American publishers. I think whatever his next project is, it's not going to be the large budget IP everyone here wants.

He belongs at Rockstar. Give him a R* Japan studio and shower him with that GTA cash.

I don't want to see him go to Sony and make PlayStation exclusives. I really don't want to see him go to some Chinese publisher whos only experience is with mobile.

So Tencent is the largest VG company in the world?
Considering it's the first time I've heard of them really brings home the fact that traditional VGs are increasingly being left in the dust.

The question of artistic restrictions that'll be placed on Kojima because it's, you know, communist China, is a thing.

iirc pornography restrictions are very tight there, tight enough that Quiet 2.0 and other standard Kojima practices probably can't happen. Add that to Tencent's guaranteed need for microtransactions and well this relationship might not get that far off the ground.

That's why you have never heard of them, they are the largest company... that owns other companies. Kinda like how there can be 1000+ channels on TV, a hundred networks and subchannels but they are all owned by 3 broadcasters.

Tencent are known for multiplayer f2p games so I'm not too happy about this. But they do have a lot of money so it would be great if they let Kojima make single player games instead.

Kojima has not made a single-player only game since... MGS2?

You're assuming Tencent is making games for a Chinese market in specific.

As with the movie market, it's becoming increasingly clear that you can make games for a Western market primarily and still market them successfully in China with some forethought. You don't have to make the games explicitly for China. Kojima would probably make his game in Japanese initially, same as he's always done, for the same audience he's always done it for.

Any publisher interested in the AAA games market is likely to consider hiring him in some kind of capacity.

I can see Kojima going the way of Sakaguchi by setting up his own studio with MS backing whilst remaining independent and eventually going multiplatform.

A couple would probably take the plunge, but I think this is underestimating how much his history is likely to scare a lot of those publishers off.

Kojima might make games that sell well, but he's still not the person to go to if you are wanting, say, the next AssCreed or CoD.

kojima should go 'all big boss' and setup a company similiar to 'Militares sans frontier' instead of being in another company..

Love all the knee jerk reactions going around here.

They are the world’s largest gaming company in terms of revenue and hold big stakes in companies such as Riot Games, Activision Blizzard and Epic Games.

They probably want to give him his own studio and reap the rewards. Like with many things that are financed or made in ChIna, you probably won't even notice. I won't guess if this rumor is legitimate or not, but it's not like they're going to force Kojima to crank out mobile games. I doubt he'd be in a worse situation than at Konami.

You would think after everything he's been through he would have decided by now that being a boss of his own fully independent studio is the only way to go.

Yeah, he'd be hard pressed to find a publisher that'd be willing to give him the sort of freedom he enjoyed at Sony before thing went sour.

Sure as shit isn't going to be Sony.
