You're just making yourself look worse.

"This guy was given seizures. I think I'd like to go spit on him because he was rude to a Stein voter."

he threatened to assault a guy because he didn't like him and told him to go fuck himself

i'll sleep just fine after saying mean things about him on the internet

Can ya'll expound on this shit you're peddling?

Most of the hate stems from this story about Kurt exposing an online child pornography front. Essentially Kurt failed to disclose he had paid one of the child victims $3,100, and he said his epilepsy made him forget to tell the Times. Since he was known to be a meticulous reporter, his colleagues found this very hard to believe. This was obviously an ethical breech, and most put it up to him getting too close to the victim Justin and wanting to help extract him from that world.

The end.

Someone saying all that nonsense and then saying they voted for Jill Stein?

I'd tell them to go fuck themselves too.

A lawyer for that person wrote in the motion that Eichenwald was making an “attempt to use his suit to chill the First Amendment and further embarrass and harass Doe.”
This is like saying a letter full of anthrax spores should be protected by the first amendment.

Edit: LOL, someone in the article made the exact same comparison.

”You're lucky it's illegal for me to punch you in the face," is rude, but it's not a threat. Kurt had every right to be pissed off at a third party voter, and especially a fucking Stein voter, for telling him to "get back to work."

Dude was almost killed. In a thread where he's is a victim you elect to make sure everybody knows you'd spit on him if you could. Ok. Trump is our goddamn president and this guy is tame in comparison to that shitheel. Save your spit.

I mean so glad a thread about the justice system catching up with the realities of the internet is being overtaken by the need to talk about a questionable ethical thing the victim did 15 years ago and the fact that he had a heated confrontation with a moron once.

yup. And he didn't threaten to assault, he simply said he's lucky it's illegal for him to get punched in the face by him (clearly a sarcastic remark) and to go fuck himself.

Holy shit, that's surely the equivalent of saying you want to go find a guy and spit on him a thread about someone trying to kill him by triggering a seizure. aeolist is simply projecting his anger at people who rightfully feel disgust at the responsibility third party voters/Trump voters must own down to their very essence for the hell this country is going through now.

Nothing sane about it.

I'm really worried with how long it could take for future social media attacks/threats/whatnot to be taken seriously in the legal system in a consistent way in this country.

In the world of the internet, if you have ever made a mistake, it will follow you forever, and all the people dogging you about it will pretend they have never done shitty things that are likely arguably just as bad or worse. And it doesn't matter how apologetic you are about it, fifteen years later you still deserve to be spit on.

It's depressing that between my thread and this one, it was further comments expressing a desire to harass the victim that propelled interest in the topic. Geez.

I think it would be interesting to know what is going in your mind that would make you think you can post this (so that other people can read i, no lesst) and believe this makes what you're saying make any sense at all.

I just hope the court doesn't try to act like trying to cause a seizure to someone online is an extension of free speech. Courts have been very dodgy on issues of harassment in the online sphere.

I assume Kurt Eichenwald however can afford a damn good lawyer :D
Yeah I could see that if he simply just sent the offending content but this...
A search warrant found that in direct messages to other Twitter users, Rivello wrote, “I hope this sends him into a seizure,” “Spammed this at [victim] let’s see if he dies,” and “I know he has epilepsy.”
will be pretty damning in court.

You're very dismissive. A more detailed account courtesy of New York Magazine.

yeah this is one of the clearer cut cases. And I'm sure Kurt has the absolute best representation. So I think this has a good chance.

It's just...this is America in the year 2017. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong :(

not an eichenwald fan but this dude can go to hell

Rivello was a student at Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury until December 2014 and did not graduate, according to the school.

That story makes me like him more. Stein voters grumpy about Trump winning should indeed go fuck themselves.

Good, this guy clearly belongs in jail. I can't even imagine being hateful enough to intentionally trigger a seizure in another person. Allegedly.

Seriously. I hate Donald Trump to my core but I would still say anybody that tried this, if he had the disorder, should be jailed. It's fucked up.

Some people are such utter bastards. Even if there was a 1% chance of causing a seizure, how could you go through with something like this? I hope this Rivello guy gets the book thrown at him and gets fucked up in prison for good measure.

Edit: Not cool, Aeolist. The fuck is wrong with some of you?

I haven't seen the image in question, but, as someone with visual issues for which flashing images can cause problems, I have animated images disabled and autoplay of movies disabled. People are really thoughtless and careless with stuff like that, even when they're not doing it to be malicious.

The image was literally a flashing strobing colour square or something to that effect, it was designed and tweeted at him 100% to cause a seizure, that's why he's being charged, in the article it literally says the assailant hoped Kurt he might die. This is intentional and malicious.
