Soul Sacrifice (Vita) Demo impressions

The ice sticking to the leg is a sign that you are slowing them down. Sometimes, if you get enough ice in in rapid succession you can freeze them in a block of ice and wail on them for a bit.

I had a cool moment against the Jack o Lantern where I froze most of its limbs. The thing was moving around super slowly making it easy to see his attacks coming. A few more blasts of ice and he froze completely for about 5 seconds.

I strongly suggest clearing the second mission until you get 斧の破片 (looks like a broken blade), which is a pretty cool weapon with quick attacks.
Now that I have all the magic that I wanted from the prologue chapters, I think I'm going to farm the Avalon ones for some useful attacks. Still 11/7 though...

so its just empty rooms after another? (with enemies of course)

Each mission is usually one single "room", with obstacles like pillars, or natural formations in the way. It's not just circular, empty fields.

I've become a GIF on NeoGAF! My future children will be so proud :D

To answer some questions I saw:

気 come from saving enemies, 魂 come from sacrificing them. You build these up to unlock the seals for your arm.

You can tell how many of each sacrifice you have left a couple ways: No flashing (on your bottom-right bar) means you have a lot, it'll start flashing when it's under 50% (or so?) and it'll flash red when there are 1-2 left. Also, you'll get a notice on screen when you have only 2 charges left (I think it's 2 charges - might vary). It'll flash red at that time -- you wanna be careful not to use it after that before recharging it.

My favorite music in the game is the menu music inside the book (gives me total Castlevania vibes, vocals and everything together are amazing), and the music in the forest during the first post-prologue mission. It's so freaking good.

To add to this - you can restore your "broken" magic by pressing the triangle in the magic customization screen, but it uses book's tears.

Btw., why aren't there more character screenshots in this thread? Share your mages!
Here's mine, but his level is still pretty low (11/7):

That's what I figured, but I wasn't entirely sure if 魂 was saving or sacrificing, but it makes sense. Gaining their 気 sounds far more heroic than taking their souls.

how do i save my progress?

Every time you finish a mission, you'll be asked if you want to save your progress. Choose the right option はい to save.

Btw, how do you take screenshots with the Vita? Never bothered trying. Also, how are you getting them off the Vita? Just using the content manager with a USB connection?

EDIT: Nevermind, figured it out. PS button and Start at the same time.

You can also use the セーブ option in the settings for saving synthesis results etc. without doing a mission.

As for the screenshots, I usually tweet them from the Vita. You can also use the flickr app or the Content Manager.

When you're looking at the book before going into the contents, choose the bottom option, and you will get three options on the right: Save, Settings, and Cancel.

It's not - point-sampling had no performance difference over bi-linear for the past 12 (16 on PC) years.

I notice that some textures on Square's games on iOS are point sampled. Dunno if it's related since the Vita and modern iOS devices share similar GPUs.

I know it's shallow but it's really put me off the game. Can't stand to see blocky textures, takes me right out of the experience.

Is it possible to download this on PS3 using my Japanese PSN account, then transfer it to my Vita? Would that eliminate the need for formating my Vita?

No, I don't think you can do that.

The Vita will only play content from the region it is currently signed in to. So if you are signed in on your US account you cannot transfer or play content from your JP account.

You want to play you need to log in to your JP account.

Demo download at 92%...almost within reach now >_<

Firing it up >:)

Niiice, that's how you do menus

what is this a MH clone or GoW..

ok got it ready for tomorrow -night gaf

BTW, max level for Arm 1 (the only one in the demo afaik) is level 20 (combined red and blue levels). I finished at level 10/10. You can spend tears to level reset (and choose which and how many to decrease).

Seems obvious that once you get Arm 2/etc the level cap will increase (and maybe equipment slots and stuff? Who knows).

There is still an absolute ton of stuff to collect and upgrade in the demo beyond your level. I just killed the real Harpy for the first time, who dropped an Ice Sword that attacks at ninja speeds. So badass. And since I wanna upgrade the hell out of it, it's time to kill more Harpies...

Man, I hate the harpy so much. She is disgusting looking and I think the hardest boss not named cerberus. I'm at 9/8 for the arm, I'm just putting stuff on there and I have no idea what they do lol. The lantern dude drops electric element stuff, currently farming him right now.

I keep watching the 4Gamer video for the sole purpose of listening to the trailer music.

I think there's something wrong with me.

Here's Marin, will do Jack-O-Lantern after my class.

This world is ruled by 'Marin', a Mage with unmeasurable power.

You, in your gloomy cell, are waiting for your turn to come to be sacrificed by him.

Before your eyes, you watch as he kills the man inside your neighboring cell.

He is unmatched, and the strongest Mage in the world - and nobody can go against him.

LTTP.. and no because I have no Vita, I haven't played the demo but it looks fantastic. How does the framerate hold up?

How large of a game can we expect this to be?
Is multiplayer different then single player or is it just the same maps that you can coop with friends?
Regarding MP, can we send invites to friends or do you meet up in a lobby?

Awesome demo - So there's the single player with an AI - harder missions where you can have 2 AI teammates, and MP (can you select difficulty for MP missions?)

Do you have to save the bosses to be able to use them in your SP team?
Also is it the blue spots that recharge your magics? Do they only recharge a certain amount?

And how are the arm buffs different to the body buffs? Are one for offence and one for defence? Not sure how they work - I only have one head buff at the moment and a few arm buffs which I'm not sure what they do. Figured out most of the magics (handy having the test arena) except the one that sprouts a tree - dunno what that does - and the one that does some sort of purple aoe effect...

Edit: and some MP games I tried to join asked me to enter a number - are they private games you need to enter a password for?

The tree sacrifice/magic is for buffing. Try to press X on the tree to get it's fruits... they give different status/buffs.

Yes, the rooms that ask for numbers are private.

I will say that I absolutely love MonHun style game demos because they have a ton of content for a modern demo, and the save games can be used in the main game. I wish more games did this.

Wow, it's super important to choose/manage your spells well. I faced off against the Jack o' Lantern and pretty much used everything equipped to bring him down. Ouch.

If you sacrifice small mobs, though, that will recharge your spells rather than your health. I figure that's why bigger encounter have trash mobs roaming around (that and free healing).

It's cool that you have a choice, though.

Jesus, the demo it's like a small game, you can do so much stuff. It's hard to get all the details with so many kanji menus.

When you are in battle and activate the "ghostly" view, blue auras are new magic (to equip later) and white auras give you a spell recharge, healing or random magic?.

And even i am moderately surprised
Very short impressions as i'm up to my nuts in stuff to do :

Will this save the Vita? Probably not
Is it fuck awesome? Oh Shit yes....

Great soundtrack, fun combat, interesting story, weird setting....

I'm still only on the 5th mission and my level is a very lopsided 1/5 lol

Wiping those tears away from concerned folks, it's surpassed what i was expecting at least.
