I like this, the notifications are not very obtrusive, the games folder is much welcomed. I really hope this is true. Would be a nice little update if it turns out to be the real deal.


I guess we will know for sure in 2 days.

Library is a handy place to see everything you 'own' - whether installed or not. The games folder just shows installed games. I guess it could be in your games 'folder' but I wouldn't mind it being on the top menu too

Pretty easy editing-wise actually. You just need a background video of the game in question and at one point have the player stand still to simulate interaction with the added menu. Then using assets from Photoshop etc you can implement them on top of the video with Premiere Pro/After Effects and have a simulation of a functioning os.

It's a pretty common practice both for designers and companies to simulate the concept of the system before actually building a functioning version. Especially advertisements, presentations and such often use a mock-up to make sure they don't showcase any possible flaws/bugs in the system. For an experienced designer this wouldn't be too hard to mock-up. It does look like a great idea though, and the player would definitely benefit from minimal os navigation to respond to these kinds of things.

I'd like it to be real so that the UI would get updated, but its hard to believe random stuff that pops up these days, this wouldn't be that hard to make. As for someone from Reddit saying its fake, I always find it hard to believe anyone on there. All verified means is they provided proof, we don't know what proof is required or was given, and subreddits can be made by anyone. There was a big reddit thing before iirc where someone had given fake proof they were Morgan Freeman and got verified and then did an AMA. We don't worry about the same thing here because Neogaf has a record of actual verified developers and insiders, I can't say the same for a subreddit.

Easily with some modern software. Video of game, pause and stick fake UI over the top, continue then blank out and start a second video of new level loading. We'll know if it is actually fake within a few days, but it has never been easier to make a fake UI video.

People can practice magic with the current day technology. There are many fake boot screens for the PS4, Xbox One and almost every other consoles out there. The person who did that PS4 boot animation also has some very nice Sega Dreamcast/Gamegear 2 fanmade renders on his channel.

True, however using the shoulder buttons or pressing up out of the submenu can work. There are tons of options that Sony can think of.

If this is fake, then I really hope they figure something out soon. Between everything in the announced game lineup and a PS Now subscription and PS+ games, the current setup is going to be pretty unwieldy.

Here's hoping it turns out to be real. I don't even care if this design is fake, I just want Sony to at least talk about the next big update at Gamescom. Although a UI redesign and folders would be sweet.

Wow, this thread is 17 pages long with some great additions and mock ups. I think Sony should be dinged for this awesome display of dedication here. It's sad that it has to come to this but this thread is saying something. I think this page should be tweeted to some top execs :).

I really like the subheadings for "Favourite Games". Just give us a vertical list of custom libraries, and maybe even a navigator on the left like PSN Store

Even if it's fake, I REALLY hope they are planning something similar to how the invites and trophies are done on the UI presented here. It just makes too just sense and looks too nice not to have.

They are both amazing in their own ways for me. I look at them like this.

The xbox one is more connected, a bit inspiring and mainstream. It is cutting edge in the sense that it does it's job well of selling you a system that can almost do everything at once. From my experience, its a good machine that shows you, upfront, its priorities. its heart is in social and media mostly, and making sure that can also be a pillar of success in everything surrounding the box.

The PS4 now is simple, less intrusive, and modest. It isn't doing a lot to make things complicated. It isn't overpromising and instead gives you the type of quickness that doesn't get in the way with what you are doing. What it does make up for with it's lack of extensibility, it gives you back more into its vision.

Not to say that the Xbox isn't primarily a gaming machine or less capable, but Sony's vision about games is why the system can get by with being simple. They are both personal. Microsoft is more concerned with giving you everything at once, while Sony is doing more to give you what's essential first, and work up to everything else.

At the end of the day, it's really what is important to you and which needs as a gamer appeal to you better. I have both so they kind of both fill that need.

thanks! looking forward to messing around with it. haven't had a ps since 2. god i loved the ps1 and 2. hate the fn controller though. so i got em all. ps4,xbone,wii u, and mega ultimate pc. f the pc. pos(piece of shit)

So we know this to be fake? I'd hope this was a way of mass focus grouping a concept. I think the consensus is that it's superior to what we have now. If anything, Sony can use it for guidance. PEACE.

Really hope this isn't a fake. The UI needs a good cleanup like this. Now just work in custom wallpapers and we're set.
