How much are coins worth in the game? I've heard that people are earning thousands from the demo, but only 500 carry over. Is 500 a lot - can it buy you a lot of stuff?

500 is not a lot, no. It costs 900 to do a full 2.5 minute trophy rush. I think it's like 2k or so to do lvl 9 classic mode.

Trophies can be anywhere from like 300 coins to 2,000.

You earn tons of coins by playing though. Don't fret the demo coins.

my bad, I was talking about the circle pad

Aha, nevermind then!

..no, it doesn't screw me up, I've always kept tap to jump on. It makes up-aerials immediately off the ground a ton easier. If you've got enough restraint to manage tilts in the other directions, I don't see why up-tilts with tap-to-jump on would be difficult.

They're in. You need to scroll down during the victory screen to see them. You probably didn't notice them because every just spams a and skips through the victory screen as quick as possible.
See, that's just it - I did, hoping to see their glorious return, but all I saw was stats about the fight, who killed who, number of SDs, distance run, and that jazz.

Is it just not in the demo?

Link would be considered a zoner than, correct? Three projectiles, a distant grab and long range normals. Can "glass" characters be considers zoners (like Phoenix from MvC3)?

While Bowser isn't based around grappling, he has an additional grabbing attack, a weak recovery and fits the heavy damage, slow type. He's probably the closest there is.

You might be right about speed. Smash Bros. is not a traditional fighter, so the types don't fit perfectly. Based on my years of smash I would say speed, damage, weight, recovery, projectiles and reach are the most apparent character attributes.

Maybe. If I recall correctly, his zoning options aren't that great, (slow or short ranged normals) so maybe he's more well-rounded? I'm pretty sure he wants to be closer to the opponent, but he's still got ranged options if it comes to that. Phoenix is definitely a hybrid of zoning and rushdown.

The thing about Bowser is that still has the standard double jump + Up B combo. His recovery is more along the lines of the cast, whereas your typical grappler has awful, awful movement options. Sure Bowser's recovery might be worse off (which is debatable, imo) but he's definitely not significantly worse than the rest of the cast. It's important to consider that he's got good aerial mobility, strong aerials, and an Up B that is difficult to intercept. And supposedly his vertical recovery was improved?

This is brilliant. Kinda makes me love the character more, haha.

The thing with turning tap jump off, then it becomes a lot harder to do stuff like up smash or up B out of shield (well, unless that's changed for 4). Even if I never/rarely do those, I still hate knowing that the other person has access to more stuff than me. I also don't want to get used to a custom control scheme, because I don't want to have to set it each time I go to a different system to play. Though I guess the latter isn't really an issue with the 3DS version.

When doing uairs in the demo, just make sure you only push up halfway. That's usually enough for me not to jump, but still do the right move. With utilt, I'm usually doing a throw or an aerial right before it, so I just hold Up before I finish that.
That's not true, the 3DS's button layout allows one to easily do up-smash or up special out of shield. Just press X and then A immediately after while in shield for up smash out of shield. Press Y and then B immediately after while in shield for up special out of shield. Requires an extra button to press, but it is very easy to do. On the GCN controller you would have a much harder time doing up special out of shield.

I wish there is a diamond layout wired control scheme for the Wii U. I truly believe it is the best button layout for Smash with every button being very close to each other. I hope the Wii U Pro Controller doesn't cause so much lag.

That Duck Hunt comic is begging for a follow up story where the duck learns the truth as an adult, then feels compelled to get revenge against his former father figure. The only thing standing in the way? A Mexican cartel.

Action. Betrayal. Duck Hunt.

I think the duck knew, that his parents were killed & the fact that the Dog wasn't the one who pulled the trigger. He was doing his job, retrieving the kills. The fact that the duck accepted the dog anyway is touching.

Oh, I think I misunderstood what you meant by bonuses. If you meant those things from melee (like First Strike, Invulnerable, etc), I'm not sure.

Definitely good.

Unlike Marth, she can consistently K.O, which is huge, huge, huge deal in a game like this. That Upsmash of hers is pretty deadly.

If you know how to use Marth's blade Lucina doesn't really offer anything. Still, she's better than Roy because her blade has the same power overall. I mean what were they thinking, making a sword using character forsake his biggest advantage?

Edit: at least, that's how it should be. How much stronger are Marth's moves in comparison to Lucina when he hits with the tip?

God, I cannot wrap my head around pressing a button to jump in a game like this. Like, I know that it's the better option between the two, and I've really tried to get used to it, but while it's a lot easier to shorthop and perform tilts without it, short-hopping feels a lot more intuitive when it comes to jumping off the stage and everything else. It's a disease. @_@

It's okay, Anna has gone the way of Lucas, not good enough for an alt :p

You've gotta give me this, at the very least.

Ok, though I know some places have done videos, I've been, for my site, screencapping all alternate colours/costumes. And here they are. I realise that some aren't so great, but I tried getting as stationary as possible without going into VS mode over 400 times. Yikes.

Good to know. I'll probably start trying to do it that way instead if I can get used to it.

Yes, those. I swear there were tweets claiming they were in the game after being cut from Brawl during the public demo the week before release, but I'm suspecting they're still out.

Yeah, I was very surprised to hear about their return and pretty dismayed when I couldn't find them. I guess I understand their omission when only a handful of people even remember what they were.

But they're gonna have to check it out anyway because of stage bans and counterpicking rules and such.

Well at this point it's looking like there's only three legal stages in the game (Battlefield, FD and Yoshi's), so there probably won't be any bans.

It's literally For Glory... oh and Battlefield and Yoshi's are playable too. Point is, you're getting a good deal of the competitive experience if you simply jump onto For Glory mode, and that's a good thing.

It's not about knowing how to use Marth's blade.

Marth's tipper is inconsistent, whereas Lucina will *always* have the same KO power, regardless of where you hit with the blade. It's relevant because her Upsmash has a vacuum effect, and even hitting that will cause a KO at reasonable %, which is something Marth can't do.

That's the reason why she was picked over Marth in that recent tournament.

Hey, is the demo freezing up for anyone? I was in the middle of playing a match and then all of a sudden the music stops. The sound effects and the gameplay continue on until the match is over, but once it goes to TIME, it freezes and doesn't go to the results screen. The music stopped in a match I had later, so instead of letting it finish, I tried quitting out of the game. It froze again. Had to hold the power button to reboot the 3DS.

I'be managed to play about 6 and a half hours perfectly fine, and today all of a sudden this happened.

So I wonder how custom moves will be handled in tournaments.

Banned?

Allowed?

If the latter, wouldn't that make streams go slower as players update their characters?

So far it looks like custom moves are allowed. It shouldn't be too bad since the game lets you save a bunch (8 I believe) versions of each character.

I think allowed. Everyone seems to want it, from what I've seen.

It doesn't seem too bad as far as time is concerned. At least, I hope.
