Shadow of Mordor DF Face-Off

Dropping the resolution wouldn't have helped much in the vegetation department, anyway. Take the PS3 version of RDR, for example, which runs at both a lower resolution than its X360 counterpart in addition to having noticeably less foliage peppering the world.
But on PS3/360 it was because the PS3 was mega bad at alpha blended textures compared to the 360.

Now that they are both on GCN and mostly play in the same realm, even though they have some memory size and bandwidth differences (in addition to the API) they mostly should scale similarly, until you hit the eSRAM size limit.

I think the reason why these face-offs are much less interesting nowadays than last gen is because the way they go about trying to get the same look on the different platform was much more interesting because of the huge architectural difference.

It has no gaming application on PC, so why shouldn't it be ignored? It's an unnecessary cost that adds nothing and takes nothing away from the PC gaming experience.

Because not that many people build a gaming PC literally only for gaming. Likely it'll be used for other things too. Mine was built for gaming (replacing a laptop), but still needs to handle ripping my blurays and editing my photos

I can't believe that in the year 2014 there are still people defending the console value proposition by using the "build me a PC for $300/$400/$whatever" line. An argument that has been proven time and again to have more holes than Spongebob Squarepants. Incredible.

The builds never include an OS, which apparently has to be bought from some stranger on Reddit for $15, because that's the legit way everyone gets their copy of Windows these days.

You are right. It's just I prefer achievements and the is. I know it seems silly. I did buy my ps4 first before the one and said I would use it for better performing multi plats. I just don't want a fluctuating framerate :/ Thx tho
This is what worries me about fanboy is if anyone thinks that looks bad. I just don't get it. Would take locked 30 over fluctuating 60. Please be locked 30
The internet can deffo eat a dick this generation...So much lies about it being 720p and 30 vs 1080p and 60. I'm fed up with it!

If it ends up being 900=30 vs 1080=30 then I think devs just need to get out there first and be straight up with the gamers about the tech.

I can get it 4 pounds cheaper on xbox and get achievements/be in an OS I like, I got thrown off becuase of internet jerks!
So thanks to bullshit Internet fanboys I'm not getting this on Friday now. It's gonna be Saturday. I lost my launch day delivery. Still got it for 37 tho from Amazon
So happy with this news. Roll on Saturday. Lost my Friday delivery thanks to idiots on the Internet make me doubt the Xbox One version.
I'm sure everyone now feels terrible that you were swayed toward the PS4 version.

Then theres the goal post moving, the misquoting of tech experts to justify opinions, the comfy couch argument, etc.

My new favorite one is when someone lists console exclusives against PC, but uses exclusives from multiple platforms instead of just one. Because theres a single 400 dollar box that plays halo 5, blood borne, and smash brothers.

Ya cause a license bought for 30€ from a shop (also a stranger :O) changes everything.
The other way is also never mentioned.
Many people already have a pc so they don't need an OS, case, power supply, HDD.

Then you have the people complaining that 'PC builds' invaded/shat up the thread, when they were specifically requested by console proponents.

The PC inclusions were always strange, last-gen they limited them to 720p to fair as comparison for a theoretically 'perfect' console version, instead of actually treating them like a PC version, and they do it now. 30fps? Who the fuck wants to play a PC game at 30fps? If they're going to compare it, do it for real.

What PC specs do you need to run the game at settings better than the PS4 version?
Looks like you need a modest mid range rig. But does it make the PS4 port any worse if your home theater equipment is too crappy to do it justice? Gotta pay the cost to be the boss.

I think the main question should always be "How well optimized is the PC version?"

Even the shittiest PC ports will outperform the consoles if you throw enough hardware at it.

A mid range pc from 2012 would not have a 7870, I just built a mid range computer 4 months ago with a 7870 and an i5 for around $800.

Pc fanboys are the worst. Not all computers are the same, but whenever they compare a console to a pc they always compare it fucking 780s and 290s. Some computers are better than others just like some computers are better than consoles and some consoles are better than some computers.

Also a console is cheaper. One argument PC fanboys use is that a pc is cheaper in the long term through steam sales, but again the fanboys compare steam sales to launch priced games on consoles. Lets say the average game you buy on PC is $10 (Steam sales) and the average on console is $15 (I can go to walmart and buy plenty of games for under $15, or go on kijiji). Keep in mind only older games are these prices newer games on consoles and PC are comparable in price (Yes consoles DO get new games discounted by 10-15$ like new pc games) You spend $400 on a console and $800 on a pc, and you buy 20 games. A pc will end up costing you around $1000 and a console around $700.

There is nothing wrong with buying a console, just like there is nothing wrong with buying a computer with an r7 240.

People also compare closed platforms (Consoles) to open architecture (PC) but act like PC is closed as well.

Also pc gaming is for people with autism. Consoles gaming is for cool socially normal people who don't give a shit about resolution or framerate. Arguing about resolution and framerate on a forum is the aspiest thing you can do.

Well I guess I now know why I thought the Xbox one version looked blurry compared to the PS4 version, even after gamespot said they where 1080p. Nice to see my eyes still work.

The best thing about these face offs is reading the sour reactions and spinning at mr you-know-who's blog.

My detector has blown up.

Can we please get on topic? Please don't turn this into a Console vs PC mess.

That is something I've been wondering about, actually. What is considered on topic in these threads? When the article in question compares the console and PC versions to find out which is the best, is it any wonder that most of these threads take a similar turn? Is it off topic to compare platforms when the article is doing just that?

Cause it's a given and only brings up useless arguments

It is also a given that the PS4 version will be better than the X1 one. Should we also remove consoles from the articles?

I wasn't questioning Shadow of Mordor's optimization.
Yeah you said it should be the main question asked.
I gave you an answer in abscence of more extensive testing by DF. That answer being that the PC version is seemingly fine outside of a lack of proper SLI support.

edit: I see what you're saying now. I was misunderstanding you.

The PC version is useful to have in the comparisons because it shows you the further potential of the game. What is required to play the PC version is pretty much irrelevant if you're just looking at what is available on each version of the game and how it is implemented.

Of course it could get a lot nicer in the environments later on. I already quit because it's yet another Ubisoft bar filling game with A for awesome button combat. And yes I know Ubisoft didn't make it. Coulda fooled me.

Stop trolling, you aren't good at it.

PS4 will "win" everytime against the xbox, why not stop doing face offs altogether.

Because its ok for a face-off thread to turn into a "lol, xbone resolution", but not ok for it to turn into a "lol, console framerate/resolution/texture quality". Because you know, since we spend $10,000 for PC components and all.
