Oh, I guess they are using that other definition of "gamer" for that category.

Don't even know this guy, but if he seriously said that...wow. Sounds like a complete shithead.

Why the hell is Daganronpa not up there for handheld of the year but fucking "Threes" is?

What in the flying fuck is Threes?

I don't even know what Danganronpa is but I love me some Threes.

how the fuck is it possible that Smash is not nominated in the best score category? Also Fifa over PES this year is quite interesting choice

overall the nominees seem good to me

I've always been disappointed by the lack of niche content at these awards. Best Niche Title would be a cool category. Atlus, XSEED, Aksys and NISA put out plenty of games; give them their own category, Geoff!

That's a great idea for a new category! It's so sad how many 'hidden' gems since they never get much mainstream exposure...

I own the game and think the music is fantastic.

Yeah, I totally get that I'm the odd man out on this one, and I'm glad people enjoy the soundtrack. I just thought with so many comments about the game getting "robbed" in that category that the music samples provided in the links would move me in some way (other than "meh").

Evolve in the most anticipated list before MGSV? are you kidding me, people are really hot on this game?
MGSV seems to me to have much more hype, HALO5 as well, Evolve especially after the alpha seems like another average game hyped up by the media like Titanfall, no way it is more anticipated than MGSV.

Those user awards are pretty dumb. My most wanted are Zelda U and Xenoblade X - so why am I not able to vote for those? Why am I limited to an abritary selection of games? Same holds true for the people section. I've voted for Gerstman in order to prevent TB from getting the top spot (yes, I'm childish like that), but I'd rather have voted for someone like Jim Sterling.

I'm browsing through the list and...

"Best Online Experience:

I burst out laughing.

Good point. DR1 and 2 are absent from best narrative and best handheld. That's some bull.

I'm not hating on TLOU in particular. I just mentioned it in my last comment as a reference of how many awards it got last year.

Personally, I don't think we should be giving old games new awards. To me, it seems more like giving them awards for the sake of it. Due to the publicity, all this does is give publishers more reason to rehash old games for a quick buck rather than actually funding development for good new games, whether they be sequels or brand new IPs. Just look at the PS4's Metacritic page. Many of the top 10 are remakes/ports of old games.

You seem really concerned about the PS4 lineup.

Millions of people played games this year yet 28 will vote for game of the year.
Fan voting for GOTY on a scale like this is a popularity contest. I'd rather a system of judges than one that would prevent more niche titles from being represented because they didn't sell well. There's always GAF's awards if you value the opinions of us regular folk more.

Also surprised at the Best Remaster snark - there were legitimately some good remasters this year, moreso than in years past at least. Worth thinking about what makes a good remaster and who's doing the best work there.

No Pes2015 in Best Sports and Troy Baker/Talion in Best Performance are ones that kinda stick out for me. Pes I can understand but I didn't think Baker's performance in SoM was particularly memorable or anything.

I don't get the Tropical Freeze for Best Soundtrack comments.

I listened to the YouTube links from a few pages back and didn't like the music at all.

To each their own and all, but man they did absolutely nothing for me.

I think it's one of those music that you will really appreciate in-game and not separately

Better that you don't know.

Remember those stories about spouse's loosing their partners to WoW addictions? Yeah, that's my wife with THREES. :p

Most likely.

How are remasters being judged. Is it on which remaster was the best game overall or is it which remaster evolved the best from the original version?

I agree 100%. Those two are my most anticipated games for next year, and we have seen actual in game footage for both of them. Why would uncharted 4, which we have only seen a ~30 second teaser that was most likely CGI be on there when we have seen actual in game footage for Zelda and legit gameplay footage for Xenoblade Chronicles X? In fact, the only game on that "most anticipated" list that I actually am excited for is Bloodborne. Sure, I'm going to get uncharted when it comes out, but if I had to choose between zelda, Xenoblade X, or Uncharted, uncharted would be the bottom choice for me.

I think it's going to be judged based on which company gives them the most money :p

As much as i like Hearthstone, it still seems strange seeing it in so many categories. Maybe because it feels more like a board game or something.

Fuck you guys, Threes is great. I haven't stopped playing it since I bought it!

oh god please someone save me, this is a nightmare I must escape from, the tiles, they won't let me rest

Is this a real quote from him? That is literally disgusting

https://soundcloud.com/totalbiscuit/a-response-to-yts-senior-curator-re-gamergate

Go to 7:42.

He really said that? What's the context?

Death threats and orchestrated harassment that drove women out of work and out of their homes is not orchestrated by the Gamergate people because Anita is not death yet. Im really loving the judges by the way, and I dont wanna be seem was whinny, but fuck this guy, and screw anyone that legitimizes or rewards his feigned interest in ethics when all he does is giving voice to misogynists and putting gag orders on developers.

Because my edit of your post is what 95% of the general public would say if it was the other way around.

Danganronpa 2 should be nominated for GOTY

Gripes
-2 Danganronpa games in a year and not a single nom -_-
-No Metro Redux for Best Remaster
-No GOTY for South Park
-No inFamous Second Son for Action/Adventure
-No Graphics Category?

Anyways it looks like a solid list of nominations.

Your post doesn't really make any sense. You're speaking as if the resources used to port these games are about the same as making a new IP or sequel. Anyways, have you looked at the 2015 lineup? There's a lot of new games (especially new IPs) coming out in the first half of the year.

We don't much about 2nd half of the 2015 lineup yet, but Zelda U, Uncharted 4, Halo 5, Persona 5, Tomb Raider, and Xenoblade are some of the new games that's likely/confirmed so far.

I wouldn't say they got robbed as there are other games in that category that I would take over the DK:TP soundtrack, as amazing as it is.

Best Remaster

Grand Theft Auto V
Pokémon: Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire
The Last of Us: Remastered
Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

I was under the impression that this was a new game.

It was obvious inFamous wasn't winning any awards, but come on, at least put it in the Action/Adventure category over Unity. It deserves that spot far more.

So, my thoughts.

1) It's probably best to change the way the fan-voted categories are displayed. Shoving a big Uncharted 4 in someone's face, or a big whatever is up top at the time, might have an effect on voters. And honestly, given the huge amount of big games coming next year and this being a special category, I don't think it'd hurt to open it up to more than five entries. That way people would be voting for what they're actually looking forward to most rather than what they have to because what they want isn't there.

2) Putting both versions of Super Smash Bros. games in the same category probably isn't very efficient.

3) Have you seen Danganronpa? It should be on that narrative or handheld list!

4) I'm not sure I'd call Pokemon ORAS a remaster. It's a remake, which IMO is completely different.

5) [Forget this one. Thanks, Lactose_Intolerant.]

So?

There are plenty of movies that are up for plenty of awards that many people have not see or heard of? It's awards for "best", not what's "most popular".

If Oscars had this kind of logic, Transformers would win best motion picture every year.

Indeed. Sadly, baby steps. :(

I'd imagine it's the latter - what was left unchanged, what's different, is it impressive because of technical reasons or content additions, was it just a cash grab, etc. Judging which game is still good X years on isn't interesting, thinking about the work done for each individual remaster and how much it's been improved over its original form is.

Looking at the nominees. Overall this year has been kinda weak, but still a bunch of great games here and there.

I'm a little surprised that Child of Light didn't get a nom for best rpg. I haven't gotten around to playing it yet but it was very well received, no?
