Star Wars Battlefront Beta Thread: He’s holding a thermal detonator!

My initial reactions after playing on the ol' bone.

The overall presentation is spectacular (resolution on the Xbox One notwithstanding, it REALLY bothers me more than it should). I'm far from the biggest Star Wars fan, but I instantly felt immersed in what was going on in the game. The top of the line sound design is present as expected, and the in-game engine ran extremely well my whole playtime aside from an obscure crash and certain issues with hit detection.

I'm not going to waste post space by going over the positives, so I'll just list my gripes with the game to make it short and sweet.

The Walker game type seriously seems, "unwinnable" for the Rebels at this point in time it seems. There were many matches where my team definitely should have lost, but we still were able to reach the win state somehow.

Hipfiring is ridiculously effective to the point where holding LT down to aim in 3P is just a bother most of the time; and speaking on 3P, I don't know why anyone would prefer to play this game in first person other than for the immersion factor. I feel bad for all the players who don't realize they can switch the camera.

The Blaster Pistol is absolutely nuts. Once I unlocked it, it was hard to have a game where I achieved less than 30 kills. The ROF coupled with the damage makes the gun capable of killing groups, and I'm not quite sure if that seems right.

On the other hand though, the Cycler Rifle (attainable through the card system) feels useless most of the time. Even accounting for any possible ballistics physics, I found myself cursing under my breath as I tried to use the rifle as a sniper. Even when I was crouched and completely planted, I found myself missing mid-range shots on targets that were barely moving. The rifle also seems to have an odd point of origin when it comes to the shot too, even when my aiming cursor and the barrel of the gun cleared any obstructions, I kept noticing certain instances in which I'd be shooting the wall in front of me at an unreasonable angle.

The game is fun though, and I'm now considering renewing my EA access to play it even more near release.

Can't wait to test out the beta tomorrow. The footage I've seen looks absolutely spectacular - as a Star Wars fan I think this game will be my 'go-to multiplayer game' once it gets released. Move over, Destiny!

So, I'm terribad at this game, but I still had fun spending over three hours with it.

In that time, I played as an AT-AT, wrapped up an AT-AT with a speeder, killed Darth Vader as Luke, Killed Luke as he was about to slice me in half, shot someone in the face with a Smart Rocket and saw a Storm trooper fly in the air about a hundred feet after being killed. lol

I saved a few clips on my Xbox One Game DVR. As soon as it lets me upload the game clips to youtube I will!

Why is there no "collectors" edition for this game? One that comes with an AT-AT statue or replica light saber hilt.

Take my money Dice!

I played for about an hour and a half, but only Drop Zones so far. I'm not sure what to think to be honest. The game felt fun, but I'm not sure how long it'll keep me interested.
I've noticed that it's easier to pinpoint your shots in third person view. I can't explain it, but as soon as I switched I started playing better.
Noticed the same.

So is this game going to have assured regional match browsing and latency display on release? Or am I going to have to put up with bullshit "ASSUME YOU'RE NOT LAGGING"?

Well it seems like I still have the same wonderful issues that I've had with Battelfield 3 and 4 in that every couple of games after playing for about 10 minutes I just lose my connection to the session. It has happened consistently for 4 years now across all of Dice's games on PC. It's only their games and only the PC version. I've spent 4 years trying to fix it with every possible solution being unsuccessful. I was sort of hoping that Battelfront wouldn't have the same issue, but it does. Has happened to be 5 times already. Sigh.

You can spot the Battlefield player who nabbed his/herself a beta coda. It's the player camping on an elevated ridge with the one shot slow charge sniper rifle, assuming they don't have to contribute to the team and capture pods.

How do I play as cool Star Wars guys (Vader and Luke). Is it a luck of the draw from power-up pickups?

Yeah, they're also randomly placed, but they have a lightsaber icon, so if you see that one PICK IT UP.

Anyone manage to get parties working?

On PS4 when I invited someone to a OS party the game automatically put us in an in-game party. I was shocked to see that DICE finally made a simple, working, party system :)

So Ive been playing for the last few hours, probably have around 15 Walker Assault matches under my belt at this point.

Not ONCE did the Rebels win.

Those of you who have been playing today, how many times did the rebels win on Hoth? Im almost convinced that you cant do it. Snowspeeders are too rare (and damn near impossible to trip up the walkers anyway) and turrets and small arms fire just dont do enough damage. The last section of the map feels more like a formality since if the walkers have more than 1/4 health it seems the empire is pretty much guaranteed to win.

From an initial assessment, DICE has their work cut out for them getting this game balanced.

I've been playing for a few hours and they have yet to win one, it's suuuuuuper one sided.

To be fair people aren't playing it right(I see people attacking the AT-ATs when they aren't down) but it really doesn't feel close to balanced.

Holy crap my new machine runs this game all ultra at 100fps, looks beautiful. Sound started to skip/glitch on me though.

Also luke/vadar look janky as shit but you feel like a total badass.

Showing no ping bites ass too.

Just had one where the rebels destroyed us.

It just seems to be a number of issues. Turrets are incredibly weak due to the fact there is no classes so everyone has to be able to kill them in short order. Turrets being so weak means you are left on the gamble of skilled players in the air and semi competent people on the ground.

Spawns are way too close which makes it so people are out of the fight for a few seconds at most so there is no ok we beat them back regroup time.

Snowspeeders are absolute garbage. They are slow and move like bricks and when you have tie fighters and tie interceptors doing loops around the map in seconds firing missiles etc. its a joke.

Here's the trick to the Rebels winning:

Play with a bunch of random jackoffs who don't try to disable the uplink stations.

I can't handle how bad this game looks on the Xbox One due to the very low resolution.

I'm usually not one to be very picky about this kind of stuff, but 720p is just unacceptable.

IQ is blurry and every object has that shimmering white border that makes it look really bad.

I was planning on picking this up for it since it's online only and Xbox live is very much superior than PSN, but I just can't unless much is improved in the nest month, which I very much doubt.

I bet they're testing the extremes.

There is no such thing as hip fire accuracy. The zoom is just a zoom. Accuracy is not affected by doing that, it's intentional.

Was that jab at PSN necessary? Just so you know, in this thread there's been a ton of rubberbanding and lag complaints about the "very much superior" Xbox Live and zero about PSN.

There were issues on PS4 for Blops 3, but it was minimal. There were a lot more issues on Xbox than PS4. I played both.

Can someone please invite me into a game if you're currently playing. Need to try it out but can't find a game because I'm in Aus. Lol

Not played myself yet but having seen the Luke video on YT I have to say it looks super lame having him jump around everwhere using the force, not sure I saw that once in the films and it just looks super lame.

Normal game modes don't have friendly fire, do they? It would be super cool if Vader has friendly fire enabled. Some guys just follow him and steal all his kills while he is dodging the laser fire. He should be able to turn around and joke his own guys to death lol

Surface of Me

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
Played a few rounds of WA and DZ on X1.

Dear lord, tgis resolution. It's never bothered me before but the IQ is awful. Id trade a bunch of these particles for 900p a thousand times over. It didnt seem this jarring in BF4 or Hardline.

Anyways, the game seems fun so far. Card and menu system was confusing at first, as well as the different guns unlock differently for each side. I thought the DZ map had great design, not so much Hoth. I dont mean this as a bad thing, but the game overall feels like the ultimate form of the casual FPS. Just enough fuck yeah moments to keep you going after having a KD spread of 2 and 10.

It's just how it is in Star Wars Battlefront 2 so it's likely going to be the same here.

The best Walker Assault for the rebels I have seen so far was bothe AT-ATs down to a fourth of their health. I have not seen a single rebel win.
