Star Wars Battlefront Beta Thread: He’s holding a thermal detonator!

How optimized is this game? Battlefield 3 and 4 ran super well on my machine, but I'm afraid my 680 won't handle this game well based on the recommended specs they put out there.

Guys,

How many different areas are there in the game? Not beta.

We have seen snow, forest, red rock desert and dark rock. Is that it?

having not played the beta, how does the AT-AT work?...so you don't control movement, you just control the firing of weapons?...can anyone play as the AT-AT or is it some special power-up?

Everything in the game is a special power up, AT-AT included. The game basically works like this:

- There are no classes, just your dude.
- You pick one weapon to go with your dude. That is your main weapon.
- You have three "card" slots, which are special powers and equipment. This is your loadout. So you might, for example, equip the Thermal Detonator so you can use grenades. You also might equip a portable shield. Powers are based on cooldown, so after you've used your thermal detonators you wait for it to recharge to throw more.
- You have a fourth card slot which is filled by walking over icons on the map. Some icons are specific, like vehicles and heroes. So if I walk over the X-Wing icon, my fourth slot is X-Wing, and activating it has me call in an X-Wing to pilot (I disappear from the map into the vehicle). Heroes respawn you as the hero.
- There are also "random item" icons which fill that fourth slot with a tool, like a rocket launcher or whatever, based on random selection like Mario Kart.

If you pick up the AT-AT icon and use it you're temporarily placed in the main turret, wherein you're given a certain amount of time to kill as much as possible. You can't control the actual vehicle. You have light cannon, heavy cannon, and orbital bombardment. It wrecks shit.

There will also be interior maps.

It's snow, forest, desert, and volcanic.

Also, does anyone know if there is room voice chat on consoles? Playing yesterday and this morning I didn't notice anyone talking.

No idea. I keep getting matched against whiteboy7thst who I think is in California. I'm in Pennsylvania.

But even then, no lag. Even with my 120ms ping.

Whiteboy7thst is in Chicago. I know this because a year or two ago I bumped into him at Chipotle, lol.

thanks for the info...so you don't get to stay in the AT-AT until it's destroyed?...can you exit the AT-AT if you want?

It's a power up that spawns in static places, so you can just do AT-AT all day if you want. (There's two of them, and the locations vary per Y-Wing phase.)

Didn't realize this game was having an open beta until I got a notification for a graphics card update on my computer.

Time to relive the Battlefront glory days!

Is there any kind of level up/unlock system? Or is everything available from start?

Really impressed by this beta. One of the smoothest controlling games I've played in a long time, excellent performance, gorgeous visuals, perfect audio, and no issues with lag or bugs.

Game is a lot more fun than I expected too. The guns feel surprisingly punchy for blasters and the moments when the music kicks in in the heat of combat are wonderful. Great work all around.

I don't notice any grind in BF4, probably because i'm not playing it for the unlocks in the first place. Just play the objectives and enjoy winning. The unlocks are just icing on an already tasty cake.

LMAO what a crock of shit. No pings just means AUNZ is going to get shafted.

If you're getting shafted by no regional servers you won't need a ping indicator to figure it out.

So after putting some time into all 3 platforms now, I really wish I was a PC gamer because this game looks bloody amazing on it. I would also agree with others that have said there is a very noticeable difference between the PS4 and XB1 versions.

The game itself is simple and basic but a heap of fun. It's great to have a shooter that's not all about grinding and thousands of weapons and attachments, you just pick it up and play. The whole arcadey feel fits this game so well. I think I'm going to be hearing those imploders in my sleep.

I can see myself putting a lot of hours into this.

Is there going to be a nice skill/weapon progression system, character wise?
Nice as in barebones and not bloated? Yes.

There are an undetermined number of ranks. With each rank you gain access to a different blaster or star card, and each game you earn credits with which you can unlock said blasters and star cards are your discretion.

There are no weapon attachments or anything like that. It's very streamlined.

There will also be vanity customization unlocks to buy with credits in the final game.

Fighting Darth Vader as Luke Skywalker was one of the most "OH SH*T!" moments i've had in gaming in a long time.

Loving the game so far, though the framerate isn't very stable on XB1, maybe because i have the new dashboard installed? I'm not sure

I like this game, the graphics are so good, it is very simplified compared to Battlefield, there isnt even a reload possible on your weapons.

However the Snowmap is SO unbalanced, rebels have absolutly NO chance of ever winning. I took down one AT-AT and we STILL lost, its crazy:

Gameplay is PS4.

I really hope the maps click for me once I get to play, but they continue to look so barren. Where are the structures/buildings/ruins/tunnels/large hills? As is they all seem like flat areas with small trenches.

I've been looking forward to this game for so long and having finally managed to get my hands on the beta I'm... absolutely loving it. This is almost exactly what I wanted. It's just so fucking fun. The only complaint I have really is the TTK which should be longer imo, but everything else is really good.

It's kinda funny that the gun system is basically the original Mass Effect overheating.

It's so weird for me to win gunfights since I'm one of those compulsive reloaders, but since there's no reloading, I'm just mashing a button that does nothing.

If there's a single bullet weapon in the game, I'm running that, since this habit can't be kicked.

Watching streams it seems like the closer you are to an opponent it's faster to kill. You can down someone with 3-5 shots close range but if yall are fight long range it takes about 7 shots. Maybe the people I've been watching suck but idk it seems fair to me. Can anyone comment on this?

Eatchildren, are those PC screens?
