Star Wars Battlefront Beta Thread: He’s holding a thermal detonator!

Probably going to be an unpopular opinion... but I really wish there was some prequel planets in this game.

Despite a lot of things the prequels does wrong, and the overuse of CG, those planets are far more interesting to explore in a game, imo than planets that were created using on site filming and practical effects.

For example Cato Nemodia, Kamino, Courascant and even Naboo all have interesting architecture and environmental features

Opposed to the original + Force awakened planets which are essentially Hoth, Tatooine and Endor, plus sullust and later Jakku.

Hoth Endor and Tatooine are essentially just snow, forrest and desert maps. Sullust is probably the most interesting in the base game, and Jakku could practically be indistinguishable from Tatooine if it wasn't for that star destroyer.

In a film, over use of CGI is bad sure, but in a video game those fantastical worlds are ideal.

IMO this game shoulda been all about the new movie content. This rehash of the old movies sure it sells and it hits the feels but damn if they aren't moving forward at all.

every single map shoulda been new movie. maybe one or two flashback maps but they certainly needed to be made a lot better than this Hoth map. It was pretty basic.

Such a safe game to make. I remember playing the battlefield 3 beta and wishing I'd never see that map ever again....now i feel the same with battlefront Hoth is done for no need for it to be in the release version now.

I'm not so sure. The last time most people will have seen these maps would have been in Battlefront 2 around 10 years ago. The maps themselves are pretty different in terms of layout and design too. Plus, the leap in graphics since those maps came out is huge, when I was playing the beta I was pretty floored by how great everything looks. They seem like they are lifted right out of the movies.

While it would have been awesome to have this game, I'm still glad we are getting DICE's Battlefront. And there must have been a good reason for Battlefront 3 to go through development hell multiple times, maybe they just couldn't get it to work outside of the smaller scale Elite Squadron formula?

On a semi-rested note, you know what would be awesome? An open world RPG Bioware game with the ground to space transitions, allowing you to visit areas of different planets.

For those of you playing the PC beta how bad was the cheating and how well does DICE usually police it? I don't play many fps games online (aside from Destiny), but my only Walker Assault game on PC had two people seeming to use aimbots and several kicked by fairplay (though the two with aimbots were there the whole match). I mainly played on PS4 during the beta, but the PC version looked incredible and is really tempting me if cheating doesn't turn into a big issue. Thanks!

dont expect dice to do anything TBH. at least if bf3 and bf4 are anything to go by. in those 2 games its 100% up to server admins to handle cheaters.

I'm hoping for additional info announced soon and frequently between now and 11/17. Dice stated they will announce additional heroes,(I'm aware of the datamined files) along with other info..

C'mon dice give us something. Beta's been over for 2 days but feels like weeks.

I am a little worried about this actually. Towards the end of the BETA once people knew what was going on with the objectives the Rebels were beginning to win close to 70% of the time in my experience on PS4.

If they adjust it then it'll just be won by the rebels 100% of the time.

The problem is the orbital bombardment. If you use them against the AT-ATs, then the Rebels win pretty easily. If you don't, then you're probably going to lose. All you need is some noob getting it and using it on a single guy to lose the game, basically. No match should rest on a single power-up like that. They should remove orbital strikes for both sides and balance it without them.

I'd really like to know how the Orbital Strike RNG works anyway. Is it even random? Cause it is ridicilously overpowered compared to anything else Rebels can do.

Honestly I'd put a big nerf on OS and a little boost on all other damage for ATATs. It's indeed way too important for a single use item. Maybe it should be somehow tied to it's own objective to ensure it doesn't end on a random scrub.

Yeah, I don't like that winning can be as simple as correctly using a battle pickup. Bad game design, right there.

Well it was an open beta so that's probably why there were so many cheaters, if you're banned you could simply just get another origin account and download the beta again.
I don't think that many people are gonna cheat in the full game when you have to pay $60.

Maybe one way of balancig on Walker Assault would be that certain number of Y-wings the rebels could gather on a Checkpoint, transfer to the next one. For example, if you gathered 6 in the first "base", the next starts with 3.

I know how we can pass the time. Which planets/locations would you like to see added in the future? Post your Top 5.

1. Cloud City
2. Geonosis - Walker Assault size
3. Kamino
4. Naboo - Walker Assault size
5. Dagobah

Isn't this game going to be more like plants vs zombies where the servers are all handled by Dice?

I would love to see some of these places. They would offer some great places to explore and some good variety. Plus I can imagine my face melting off seeing these with Battlefront's graphics.

  1. Mustafar
  2. Kashyyyk
  3. Felucia
  4. Coruscant
  5. Kamino

I'd like to see a few you already listed, and some others:
  • Dagobah would be cool for a game type with a smaller player count
  • Bespin - maybe an objective based game surrounding control or protection of Tibanna gas mines
  • Death Star - so much potential here for different game modes, player counts and even Survival
  • Asteroid Field - would make a cool Fighter Squadron mode, weaving through asteroids and also in danger of being struck/destroyed by one. Could have some huuuge ones with Exogorths (Space Slug from Empire Strikes Back) that chomp at your ship
  • Jabba's Palace - smaller map with Rancor
  • The Executor or Star Destroyer - would love to run around on large imperial ships
  • Episode VII Locations - I can be more specific after the movie releases :)

I don't want any prequel content. I'd like to see a remake of Mos Eisley from the first two games.

For new locations I'd like to see the real, non-Blade Runner Coruscant, Bespin, Death Star, Dantooine, the Maw, Korriban, Dagobah.

I have a question about Walker Assault. So as you hold the uplink points for longer, more Y-Wing icons appear. What effect does this have? If you have 4 Y-Wings vs 2, do the extra Y-Wings just increase the time the shields are down on the walkers?

Yep each Y wing is a certain amount of time of vulnerability.

Do you guys think this game will be worth it for singleplayer/local MP only?
I could play this on my brothers' PS4 but I don't want to pay for PS+ and also our connection isn't quite good enough for online play...

Probably not, the only thing you would be able to play is the co-op survival missions and they appear to be pretty simplistic. Online MP is definitely the bread and butter of this game.

To be honest I wouldn't expect any of these planets because there are no major battles at these locations that take place in the movies. Also the canon version of Korriban is called Moraband. :p

Dantooine and Coruscant could be added as prequel content though and the Death Star and Coruscant could be added as space content. There are also a ton of planets and battles they can choose from during the prequel era so it's hard to imagine them not doing any.

Yep each Y wing is a certain amount of time of vulnerability.

That was the part they really could have explained better. It was also never explained that the Imperials can shorten that exposure time by intercepting each Y-Wings before they release their bombs (hard to do, especially on the last phase).

Four packs, right?

I think I want the packs to start off favoring the Sequel Trilogy, be a healthy mix of OT/ST/PT in the middle, and finish favoring the Prequel Trilogy.

Seems like a logical plan. Take advantage of new movie hype at the beginning. Then start hopping around and exploring for the people who stick around a while. Finally hit the PT for the more hardcore fans after much of the casual fans have already moved on.

Considering that the primary focus of today's Star Wars seems to be OT and beyond, I dont see them pouring a lot of resources into the PT right away. That's why I talk about it like a niche market the way I do, even though I know there are plenty of clone era fans. I too want clone era maps and skins, but that's clearly not what they want to focus on with this new game and the new trilogy.

Probably not, the only thing you would be able to play is the co-op survival missions and they appear to be pretty simplistic. Online MP is definitely the bread and butter of this game.

There are also 'Battle Missions' which are different than the survival mode, though so far they've been vague about it and I dont know exactly how that would play out.

Multiple times I caught a Y wing once it got close to the walker but by then it was too late and my lasers seemed to not do anything anyway.

You have to catch them really early, like when they're first flying in. And even then it's almost impossible to destroy them before they drop on the final phase (I did it a few times on the first phase). You could, theoretically, catch every single Y-Wing if you had 2 excellent pilots catching every other bombing run, but that would be extremely difficult, especially since there are probably X-Wing and A-wings to contend with.

I imagine that if good pilots really start catching on to that strategy, they'll have to change the Y-Wing flight path so it's harder to anticipate.

Dantooine was the location of a major Rebel base that was destroyed right before Episode IV, so that could make a plausible OT map. Also, I say just take planet inspiration from the Rogue Squadron games.

I wonder if they'll wait until the movie is out before detailing other maps. We are already getting "The Battle of Jakku" Wonder if they'll take inspiration from the movies. Makes sense

Yeah fuck the prequels quite frankly. How would it work anyway, the game seems very much built on the Rebels and Empire as the opposing forces, the outfits etc and weapons that you will unlock and customise. Going prequels, what, would be play as Naboo soldiers and those crappy droids? PLAY AS GUNGAN'S!? Or play as clones vs... The separatists, which is just a bunch of aliens nobody really remembers and mostly, again those crappy droids...

Nah I just don't see it working. They could easily accommodate First Order and the resistance as they follow on so naturally from the OT. I'd be pissed buying the season pass then getting shit from the prequels. New films and creating cool places and events from between the trilogies that might be fleshed out in other mediums outside the main films. That's what I want to see. Indeed Rogue One is only a year away!
