Assassin's Creed Syndicate PC Performance Thread

pcss still bugged. regular msaa coverage is improved but now txaa doesnt work. no difference compared to regular msaa. performance is identical. they didnt actually fix cloth physics. typical for ubi kiev, the masters of incompetence.

Okay.

We need to enter a command in the AC.ini file (my document/ac syndicate) but we don't know which one, and nothing in the file pertains to the cloth.

I sent Esco message on Twitter. He will look what is the option for cloth FPS cap.

Finally

In the AC.ini file located in “MyDocuments/Assassins Creed Syndicate”, modify the FlexibleMotionSimulationFPS parameter found in the "[OPTIONS]" section as follows:

·To enable the cloth setting: FlexibleMotionSimulationFPS=1
·To disable the cloth setting: FlexibleMotionSimulationFPS=0

By default this functionality is disabled. You may need to add the parameter manually.

Please test it and report does it affect fps.

no, they fixed it so now it is used. previously it wasnt actually being used.

No way. The game is blurry as hell even with downsampling and it clearly shows the usual FXAA issues when MSAA is used. I will check the changes once I'll get home.

Just tried it out briefly with Jacob and the clothes do look smoother on him. The pedestrians still have janky cloth physics though (or they might just not have physics at all and that's why it looks weird). The game also seems to run a bit smoother as well, though that could just be my imagination.

The fix works, no render issues or crashes but most likely they have not QA'd this ini tweak so issues may arise.

Unless the parameter needs to be in an exact location or there's something not quite final with the version on Steam, cloth animations are certainly not fixed. Really haven't got the spare time at the moment (and I've wasted an hour trying 3 different monitors with this game and various ini permeations) but if anyone wants to check this out for certain, record some footage via ShadowPlay or AMD's solution @60fps and then go watching that back in a video player like MPC and step through it one frame at a time. The 4 videos I took all update at 30fps and not matter how fast the simulation is running (running free at 150-190fps or synchronised at 60 or 50hz) clothing is missing a unique or more over an interpolated frame of animation compared to the rest of the game.

Edit: Right despite me blathering 'don't have the time' I did look at it again and yes by sticking it at the top of the options section did it work for me. Oddness aside at least my eyes can get a rest while playing this now. Cheers Ubisoft support and dev depts!

It does not seem to run exactly at 60fps as previously highlighted, there is still a delay but it looks better than plain 30fps cloth.

Tone down shadows probably to just PCSS or High. Environment at max is also very taxing at the highest setting with not a ton of visual improvement so I turned it down so I could enable HBAO+ ultra. Should be able to get HBAO+ Ultra and one of the better antialiasing at 1080 with that rig.

I'm on a 980ti at 1440p though. Those are my settings for locked 60, save for AA, which I had to tone down to FXAA, probably going to try injecting SMAA when I start playing again shortly. So a 980 at 1080 ought to be able to tweak a setting or two higher than me I'd wager.

a perfectly locked 60? or just an avg 60 most of the time?

environment - very high
shadows - high
texture - high
AO - hbao+

thats youre starting point. depending on how overclocked your gpu is, you might be able to squeeze in 2x txaa. thats the best combo of performance and IQ imo. pcss destroys performance and causes coverage issues with any of the AA methods.

Thanks, guys.

Yeah, it clearly states FXAA+MSAA in the options now and that's pretty much all they've changed. This game manages to look blurry even without AA and with 2x2 downsampling I'm getting 10 fps. I guess I'll put in the lower end of my backlog.

Hi guys,

I have the game on Uplay (sigh) and i don't know if the game updated (it's not super clear). It says its "Game Version 1.21

Is this the latest version with the cloth physics fix?

What the hell. So they added this fix but require INI fiddling or is it just someone stumbled across it?

Edit: NVM, I see an Ubisoft employee posting. I'm glad that it's an option but giving me bad flashbacks to Batman AK and their reps saying to edit ini files if you wanted basic things.

I think if e.g. the choice is between an .ini fix before the holidays or no fix before 2016 the former is much preferable.

And that seems like a scenario which could easily happen.

ini fix works fine and doesn't seem to have changed anything else or made anything glitchy or less stable. everything is working how it should.

I'm having an issue with my PS3 controller, and it only occurs with Assassin's Creed Unity and Syndicate.

My analog sticks and buttons start responding weird in game. Sometimes the input is delayed, sometimes it gets stuck (not physically, but the command will stick so the camera will spin around despite my having let go of the analog stick).

However, the issue does not occur in the menus (inventory, graphics menu, etc). Only when actually playing the game. And this only happens with these two games.

I'm using a PS3 controller with ScpServer/X-input method of simulating a 360 controller. The problem occurs in both plugged-in and bluetooth mode. I've tried reinstalling the drivers, but that didn't fix it.

The cloth physics fix is nice to see although I've personally decided I prefer this game with higher IQ and 30 fps than having to lower settings, particularly AA, to achieve 60.

I'm on an i7 3770k and MSI 980 Gaming running at 1080p with the following settings:

and then the following in Nvidia Inspector to achieve a "smooth" 30 fps:

And finally, a 30fps lock in RTSS. I tried using the framerate lock in Nvidia Inspector but found the fps and frametimes were still flitting just above and just below the perfect 30/33.3ms whereas with RTSS they're locked solid.

With all this, I get a locked 30 fps (tested mostly around Big Ben and some of the lush gardens around Westminster) with the highest GPU usage I've seen being 95%.
