The Pro Controller has such amazing battery life that it should be the standard controller compatible with every Nintendo game that doesnt require a gamepad.

I think a Pro controller led Wii U (that didn't cost as much due to the gamepad being optional in this scenario) would have made the system a lot more successful

I would be really happy if you could hold this vertically like the Wiimote and have pointer-shooting controls back.

The thing is that it looks so clean... Looks like a consumer version because of the finish and how everything looks...well, finished. DevKits usually are ugly and bulky. If this turns out to be real, the release could be closer than we think.

The more I look at it the more I like it to be honest...

Haptic feedback (at the moment) is simply just making the device vibrate when you press an on-screen icon. It's not very good. Until screens can actually deform and manipulate themselves into different shapes, there won't be an adequate "simulation" of actual button presses. The techonology is on the way, but it's still pretty far off.
Why does Nintendo insist on adopting technology that is still partly in the oven at the expense of the power of their hardware? The 'Wii controller' is just now being perfected for VR, 10 years later. It worked out commercially, but that was just a fluke and won't happen again.

So another lowres and shitty screen? :(
Yet probably expensive. Say goodbye to PS4 level specs.

No it wouldn't. That would mean buying a Sony or MS system and for a Nintendo soldier that is a fate worse than death.

I know you're being glib, but you know that's not the real issue with Nintendo going third party. The issue is losing many of the non-Mario games.

I think the most damning thing about this being a fake at this point is that the original post is still around... Nintendo ninjas should have eaten this up to hell and back by now if it was real.

I wouldn't necessarily read too much into that. There have been plenty of major NX rumors that Nintendo never debunked.

I don't think it's legit myself, so we're on the same team. ^^

Just wanted to highlight that such a "vocal" person leaking a thing that is this confidential, and also talking about being a dev and whatnot, has to be one of the most insane things you can actually do as a dev working with unannounced hardware under heavy NDA.

And yes, common sense alone is enough for anyone to expect devkits already being in developer hands, 3rd party devs no less ... 1st / 2nd obviously. :)

Ah, gotcha! Sorry for my confusion. Thank you for the clarification. I'm glad were on the same page.

What I like the most about this , it shows how desperately the video games world wants some innovation!

I still think the wii u gamepad was innovative in its time, but its the games that really make it work!

I really don't want JUST another conventional pad I get this from my PS4 I want to be surprised!

thank god for Nintendo!

Koji knight

its got nothing to do with how long it takes to make games! 1st and 2nd party games have been virtually finalized now for months! on NX .

I can tell you that now!

Hey xsape, as I remember you have some inside info. Do you have any info as to the veracity of this at all?

Why do people think the first NX to be released is the home-console? It's not. The handheld will come first, WiiU still has Zelda U to be released.

They've revealed a lot more 3DS games than Wii U games, and there's almost no chance of Zelda Wii U not being another Twilight Princess situation at this point.

As vanty said, now that 3DS has a robust lineup for this year, including a new Pokémon game, it's likelier we will see it's successor next year. If we get any NX this year, it seems likelier to be the console based on this information, the seemingly likely Zelda U cross-platform situation, and resultant speculation from Trev's leak.

Maybe we are just wrong and they are not two consoles but neither a hybrid. Just one console that plugs to the TV and acts as a handheld also. As I'm typing this I'm realizing how stupid it might sound or that it wouldn't work, but fuck it.

Because Trev is an insider on here with a proven track record and he said the console, not the handheld, is releasing in 2016.

Also, LOL if Ubisoft again leaked Nintendo stuff.

Well I knew it was a rhetorical question but it deserved an answer.

It was a non limiting patent but a lot of text went into it being eliptical shape and the reasons for it and why the bottom screen edge would be flat. It listed alternatives such as a track shape with semicircular ends and one where the straight edge was on the top of the ellipse instead of the bottom.

Yeah sorry I realise "non of them were about design" was incorrect. The point I'm getting at though is that the patent was not for the final design of a physical device, rather it was for some elements which they may like to include in a device or that they just felt were ideas worth patenting.

If pigs could fly, I would never be hungry. Wouldn't count on it.

Never heard this corollary. Why wouldn't you be hungry if pigs could fly?

I'd hesitate to read too much into this image. Even if real, it doesn't necessarily speak to being a finished product, it could even be a prototype. We also don't know of it's a handheld or if it's a controller for a console. That's all assuming it's real which we have very little evidence to indicate.

I respectfully disagree about the Wiimote. It was already ready for what they wanted to do with it at launch or else Wii Sports wouldn't have been the massive hit that it was. By the time the Wii gen was over, we had perfect 1:1 motion controls with the Wiimote+.

BTW, I don't think anyone is reasonably expecting PS4-level specs, based on comments, rumors and speculation. I think even if there is no pricy gimmick, we will likelier see a cheaper console to buy instead of a more powerful one.

Gonna just drop that here randomly but was it discussed that in the smartphone game from Nintendo there seems to be a VR helmet as costume ?? It's certainly nothing, but still i was surprised as Nintendo was like "VR, ewww no thx" in general.

It's not stupid, at all, not am I at all meaning to deride your comment, I just don't understand how what you wrote it any different than a hybrid.

its probably not a bad idea to have a direct for the unveiling if that is the new controller. You wanna show that thing off with zero fuck ups.

Could someone please take the time to explain what is supposed to be oh so outrageous and revolting about the mock up/fake/ leak ? (Assuming this is the handheld)

Like, people wanted Nintendo to go with a decent quality screen, include 2 analogue sticks and (overall) have parity with a normal controller since the 3DS launched.

I just don't get it, the only difference between the Vita and this seems to be the slightly more oval shape, the bigger screen and the lack of physical face buttons (which, if Nintendo were to use one of their previous patents, the changable controls thing where you could swap the second stick for physical buttons, would be no big deal or it could be changed anyway).

Just ???

I'm fully on board if they release a tweaked version (with maybe detachable handles) this fall.

To be fair, he didn't say this for a fact at all. He reasonably speculated it based on information about Zelda U being cross-platform and that port coming this year, which points to an NX console release but doesn't definitively say it. (Someone please do correct me if I'm misremembering this.)

Do you honestly think motion controls would be 'perfected' at this point without Nintendo taking the leap 10 years ago? This is how technology evolves. It always requires someone to stick their neck out.

You are right. I disagreed with this logic because a new handheld could potentially have the power to pull off Wii U games, but most likely at a lower res.

The most dodgy thing is that Nintendo wouldn't actually make a patent illustration that looks exactly like the final product, right? That just seems silly.

The picture looks convincingly real but it doesn't feel right. I hope it's just a fake.
