Krathös?

Lol, yeah, maybe. I googled for cool Norse names, but found nothing similar to Kratos. A lot of them are suboptimal in English as well ... Actually, I found one that I was happy with: He could be named BROKK, which means "the one who works with metal fragments; blacksmith". The name sounds nice in English and would work perfectly with all the existing character traits of Kratos. The backstory is that he is an ascended midgard blacksmith that was betrayed by the gods!

That setting and mythology would be very cool. Egyptian would be better.

No thanks on Kratos, would rather have a new protag, but I'll deal with the grumpy bastard if necessary.

I'm not gonna call it the worst concept art ever, but it's really bland. And going by the angles presented it looks as if this game is going to play just like the previous haf-dozen games. Good looking out SSM.

I also found the art work really bland, that is why I thought it was fake. It is Sony Santa Monica after all. These guys had 2 of the best looking games last gen, and a big reason of that was the amazing art direction.

Maybe these are just old concept art. Test one maybe. Who knows...

The boring concept art is what makes it believable IMO.

Often times games sell you on the bombastic and cover shot quality concept arts, and not the more mundane 10 versions of this statue from a dungeon.

Just so we're clear, the guy who did these is like 18 years old, and started as an intern last May. This is the minor stuff.

I wish the character was Ragnar Lothbrook from Vikings. I kinda liked that twitch - he would've made a great GoW. With some wolf fur/pelts.

That character art is generic. Get rid of Kratos' signature tribal tattoos. It ain't him.

This guy only worked at SSM for a few months as an intern and is far from the only artist they have.

I think the axe is the secondary weapon, or a tool of some sort, and the beard of chaos will be the main weapon of choice. He'll be swinging that around, imbued with magic, with different colours for every new magic.

Honestly who still wants to continue his journey? The only interesting thing about him was his origin story, which has had a proper conclusion, he hasn't evolved as a character in all the games he's been in.

I want.
If its a GoW game gimme more Kratos.
If Kratos journey is over then make a new IP.

Looks like scans of previous artwork overlayed with flourish. That bridge thing has to be from a previous GOW game. It looks far too familiar. Upon zooming in, it also looks like work no decent artist would show to a pro team. Too rough.

SO pumped. Hoping it's like Zelda where Kratos looks like Kratos but is a different character altogether. Like a descendant or something. Or merely just an alternate timeline/universe.

Kratos is awesome. Easily one of the most iconic, non-Nintendo (non Smash) characters in all of gaming behind Master Chief/Gordon.

I'm SO happy Kratos is in, also, changing the weapons is a ballsy move. I wonder how SSM will tie three and four.
Judging by the artwork, scale seems to be on point, and going to the land of the giants seems a given with all that huge flora.
Oh man, I can't wait to get this fixed camera goodness.

Oh my God. Can you guys that dont want Kratos back please stop?

Stop being so fucking annoying. We got it. You guys are not interested in another GOW with Kratos. Just dont buy the game if it is really Kratos, ok? You have that option. Chill now. Please.

I am tired of every God of War thread turning into this freaking mess about "ohhh if kratos is back I am out!!!1". Stop. Please.

Jesus Christ.
lol no I want to discuss what I think about this information however I want to.

The concept art looks really stellar and I hope it feels the same way in the actual game. The mythos chosen is perfect, and I hope they try to get Egypt for the next.

My one issue is Kratos. Not that he's there, mind you. I get it, he looks older and different, but I wish they had changed him up a bit more than just clothes and a beard. Obviously this might not be final, or even real, but it's still something I would like the developers to work with.

You could even keep the character arc he's developed through 1-3, but change the design a bit. I get it, he needs to look like Kratos, but some themed armor, maybe different styles of marks on him, or something along those lines. This is a completely different mythos. Embrace it!

Yeah, having a different God of War would be cool as it could go full-circle, but Kratos is a fine choice if done correctly. He's a changed man after the third. For him to go back to his old ways would make the other games a waste of time.

Me?

Who wants to continue Mario's journey, He hasn't evolved as a character in all the games he's been in.

Who wants to capture the same old Pokemon again?

Who wants to race round the same old tracks again?

Who wants to play the same old Halo maps again?

The argument is flawed because the premise is people didn't like doing it the last couple of times.

A few hours ago, the famous insider shinobi602 posted a tweet saying “to the halls of Valhalla. My boy. #GodofWar4“, letting us think about a Norse setting for the upcoming Sony Santa Monica’s title. Driven by curiosity, we looked for more details/leaks on the web and, yes, we spotted many concept arts about God of War IV (not sure this will be definitive title).
a “illusory” private section. We say “illusory“, because the section requires a password

*sigh*

They're just meant to be teases and to see people (including myself) get excited, and never to go too too far, not to generate a witch hunt and infiltrate a password-protected section of an artist's site for this stuff.

Makes me feel reserved in mentioning anything else in the future.

Comparing a story driven game to Mario/Pokemon/Racing games...

I dunno. I was really hot on the idea of getting rid of Kratos forever because I was just sick of the setting/pantheon being played out (and never liked Kratos anyway), and always assumed if we got another mythology we'd have a new lead. Never actually imagined new mythology with Kratos in the lead... the idea of Kratos developing into a guy on a mission to kill every god, even ones from cultures unrelated to his own, may be interesting. I mean, if they've developed his motivations and demeanor a little bit, of course. (If he's just an angry dickhead still, I withdraw this open-minded early viewpoint.)

Definitely open to the idea, hopefully the game delivers.

The Kratos make me thinks it's just really early concept art, so they don't have the really amazing artist work on these, just people who give them a basic idea of what they are going for. We'll probably see some of the really beautiful concept art before release.

you didnt do anything wrong, they can call it whatever they want but getting into a protected folder, downloading the art, watermarking it, uploading it to your site and making an article out of it requires a lot more than just 'curiosity'

That did wonders for the last GoW game didn't it?

A non-numbered prequel with marketing that focused on the multiplayer aspect? Of course merely having their popular "mascot" in the game isn't going to guarantee success, but he's an established character that many people enjoy using as a vessel to obliterate fictional creatures/characters. It's bloody, stupid, angry, even juvenile—but so what? That can be enjoyable, too.

Because I like the character.

I don't mind the character, but honestly is there anything left for him to do? What reason does he have to get into a huge conflict with another pantheon? Of course the writers can cook something up, but it won't be as strong as his original story where he had a long-running history with the series' antagonists.

I know, I am sorry. I overreacted. It is just that this is getting really tiring. Ugh.
