I did not even have the Wii U that long. I loved it, but bailed because I knew it was dead. And again, at least the NX is actually a new system and not just an upgraded Wii U. As such, it's the only new hardware I am excited to see.

Well.....I DO work in marketing/messaging strategies. So, I actually am an expert.
And no, I'm not a genius. I simply look at things from a common sense, grownup point-of-view as opposed to throwing a reactionary, childish, temperamental fit about something you'll almost certainly buy despite all the mindless shitposting.

BF5 would never be 30fps on the PS4, it would quicker be 720p 60fps on the PS4 vanilla than 30fps. In any case, BF5 should hit 900 (more solid 60fps) with the improvements made recently to frostbite.
Content will always be the driver. Wait until COD is bundled with NEO consoles. Will sell like hotcakes
Frame rate isn't a knob - it's the result of what you do with the other knobs.
Where's my HBM2 at? If you wanna give us an upgrade, at least give us a modern day equivalent system worthy of an upgrade. This incremental shit to me doesn't seem as enticing tbh; especially the weak CPU jump. I'd probably pay for a closed box beast of a system for $500 but it must be a real upgrade. I'm not talking PS5 level either. Just a decent 4 x CPU & 6-8 x GPU jump.

Not too convinced it will be. GAF and other message boards, aka the niche within the niche, are the only ones who will take this as a personal attack on their hobby. Everyone else will either upgrade or stay happy with their PS4 OG.

I really don't get this at all.
One company releases a hardware refresh 3 years in for their existing console. All games will continue to work on both versions of said console.
One company abandons their console less than 4 years in. You are forced to go buy a new console (presumably) to replace the one they killed off early.
On what planet is the former somehow more egregious than the latter? The PS4.5 is an optional upgrade for folks who want it, if you want to play new Nintendo games you are forced to pony up for the NX with the Wii U being left in the dust.

I'm not angry at the people that want to buy an upgraded console. I'm not a fan that an upgraded console is even a thing. Upgrades belong on the PC side. Which is where I'm likely to go.
Why keep upgrading consoles if I want better visuals on a closed system where you pay to play online, when I can go to PC, play better versions, pay less, etc. All Sony (and potentially Microsoft with One.5) is making consoles look that much more unappealing.

If we are talking a 3 year cadence between hardware revisions then sure, I will pick up PS5 day one and 3 years later I will get PS5 neo day one.
Assuming pricing and specs are reasonable like PS4 was and PS4 neo is likely to be.

The whole NEO thing to me more highlights the fact that there is a problem of fomo with regards to some individuals on the consumer side. Nothing there reads like a must have or a need to purchase with regards to the gaming experience if you have a ps4. Honestly the main issue that I see arising from this is from the dev side more than anything else, however I feel that they would have vetted them first before they even moved forward on something like this.
I was all in when I first heard about but as time is going on and hearing more info I feel like I'd just be generally fine with my ps4 experience I don't feel as if I'm missing out on anything to crazy.

Of all the gaming websites, I'm pretty sure Giantbomb cares the least about getting clicks.
Why? Because you have a small box in your living room, without dealing with windows, without dealing with a keyboard/mouse.... etc. You have a dedicated gaming box. That's what some people want. They don't want to play on a PC. They like the *insertconsole" eco system. Push a few buttons and the game runs. So they buy consoles. If this is not important for you, then yeah, go 'all PC" for gaming. Problem solved?

3: Yes. Never underestimate the power of a good marketing strategy. Exhibit A: e3 2013. Not even the saltiest fanboy can deny the sheer genius of Sony's message. Exhibit B: e3 2015. Sony knew what Playstation gamers wanted to see, and delivered. This isn't the 2006 e3, get-a-second-job era anymore. They have a crack marketing team hammering out the message right now. I can assure you this will be very well sold to the masses.
Still doesn't answer the question how devs and Sony executives know little to nothing yet news sites know everything.
Something about all this smells really fishy.

I'm amazed at the salt saying it's not much of an improvement. Going from 1.8TF to 4.2TF; when a lot of PC Gaf doesn't even have that much GPU power.

Yup, following the logic/thought process of the posts has been very difficult. If you don't like console refreshes so soon you shouldn't like MANDATORY console refreshes so soon either.
-Complaint about console refresh, even though games work on both refresh and original console
-Look to a console refresh that is MANDATORY to play new games as an alternative good example

I don't think it's too much to ask given current technology. Also as devs, will you guys be happier with a simple incremental jump within the same cycle or an actual upgrade within the same cycle?

I can't wait to hear some developers talk about this. Good or bad, how it will change the life of a PS4 developer.
I am not complaining about the new PS4 at all and I have stated numerous times that it is great for those who want it to have that option. What I am saying is that I simply have no need for an upgraded version of the system that I have not even owned for 2 years yet and I am more than happy riding it out with what I bought beings I will be getting all the same games.
As for the Wii U deal, Nintendo did not have much of a choice and rode the Wii U for as long as they could. They actually won me me back with the system, but I knew it was toast. And beings that the NX is a completely new system with a new life, I am of course interested. I simply prefer something new over a beefed up version of a system that I already own and is still young and full of life. I have no need for it, but if you do, then great.

Yeah was gonna edit that but the point still stands. The GPU handles the resolution and it's twice as capable on paper than the PS4'S.
Except they all but said it at that conference a while back. they just haven't given concrete details. You're getting a upgrade XB1 in some form or another. Bet on it.
So PS4K had a minimum spec to pass QA cert that is same framerate/res or higher than PSPoor.

What's to keep PSPoor games from being throwaway ports with terrible performance to hit the PS4K requirement?
That seems to be the rub for me. OG games from multiple publishers already have trouble keeping resolution or stable framerates. What's going to keep these from dropping off the cliff? What's the incentive to provide better than just "good enough"?

It is too much to ask given the current technology. We're looking at a perf per watt of 3x at most between the GCN in Xb1 ps4 and GCN 1.3. Zen is 2x max over Jaguar.
The only way were getting the jump you want is double the tdp of the current consoles.
220 / 240 watt consoles.
You're asking for 10 to 14 teraflop consoles. Thats PS5.
not to mention that last holiday sony's biggest bundle revolved around the uncharted HD remasters
