Is facebook funding r/the_donald or is Palmer Luckey? Because when X buys a Rift how much if anything goes to Palmer? Facebook bought it right? Just wondering if he gets any money off a sale and if so how much because if he doesn't get a penny you aren't funding shit.

More than likely, he's just on salary after the sale but who knows. Facebook definitely doesn't support the Doanld though.

My Vive purchase keeps getting proven right!
Guess I'm not buying an Oculus Touch. Time to start looking at Vives. I'll see about selling my Rift later, might as well finish the games I've already bought on the Oculus Store. I'm not spending any more on their games going forward though.
You can play Oculus exclusives on the Vive.

Facebook pays Palmer. He's on their bankroll, no?
So everyone who has a facebook account in here should also delete facebook since they pay him? And delete their Instagram?

I mean technically FB pays Palmer so by using FB you DIRECTY support that's how it works right? Buying a Rift right now none of that money goes to palmer but we should still boycott because FB pays him. It's all connected.

So you give it to the faceless corporation instead? I can't name one person who worked on the Vive or Morpheus. It's unfair.

Fuckin' a.

I'm sure some higher up working on the Vive or PSVR is just as shitty as Palmer, but I don't know so I can spend my money in blissful ignorance.

Now that I know Palmer is a shithead I choose not to in anyway support that shithead. I know it doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme, but it means something to ME so I don't care about the philosophizing of "well blah blah everyone's bad blah blah"

Holy crap. His girlfriend is evil... Yeah.. Palmer being a bigg shit is very probable now..

Every Rift purchase is directly helping places like r/the_donald. Pretty easy to avoid supporting it.

Fuck that, sometimes you get to pick and choose which rich asshole to give money too and this is one of those times.

I don't want to give money to rich white assholes who in any way support Trump, much less who do it through the bubbling cauldron of literal human shit known as the Alt Right.
Weren't you guys even listening to Bernie Sanders? Funding is all rich people do nowadays. It was the whole point of his campaign.

If you really cared about this you'd be reading up on the political donations of the owners of every single corporation you do business with. Me, I don't have the time.

How many of you guys closed your Wells Fargo accounts after they ruined thousands of peoples lives?

Palmer got a ton of money for his stake when fb bought Oculus. Your money isn't going to Palmer.

At the end of the day, the guy is worth 700m+ I doubt he gives a shit what anybody has to say about this or any backlash he will get. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get the boot from Oculus over it.

I read the article and I still don't really understand what they're doing outside of a single billboard. Is this like the Trump supporter equivalent of http://correctrecord.org/ ?

Palmer is not the face of Instagram or Facebook. He is the face of Oculus and his words sold a lot of units. His work is what got FB to buy it in the first place. How does it not make sense to continue to associate him with the Rift?

Dude was always a big channer, right? Not that reasonable people can't come from there, but it's not a surprise to me that he turned out to be a real shit heel.

Or maybe because it's a video game website and they are video game journalists who play video games.

Let me be clear, I am not trying to be dismissive of these issues, but there is a time and place and it's not on Giantbomb, a website about video games.

Racism and prejudice are issues in your sacred video games, let's not do this.

Let me make this perfectly clear for you:

I don't give a shit about your silly personal feelings about capitalism or whatever, I get to choose where to spend my drop in the bucket and I choose not to spend it on Rift anymore. Get bent with whatever kind of logical reasoning you're trying to apply to this reaction cause it's not for you or anyone else but me.

But when you buy a rift you are support Facebook, the company that OWNS Rift and if you are going to boycott the RIFT you boycott the owner.

I don't judge companies by the political views of the owner. If you did, you wouldn't be able to shop anywhere.

Whatever they told you, whataboutism is dangerous for your wellbeing. It prevents you from having a spine, which is quite beneficial to have.

shocking that a rich young technocratic white guy who grew up on the internet has some shitty beliefs

Please don't make this a "he was raised that way" thing. His boss is the exact same kind of dude and he is as liberal as they come.

The internet didn't corrupt sweet young Palmer, he's just bad news.

Robber barons were named such because they mistreated their workers. Last I checked, programming is one of the most successful and accessible careers in human history.

Also, Larry Page is a Democrat. What a shitheel!

Wow, legit surprised. He's too young to be conservative.
Good thing Vive > Rift.

Sadly this thinking isn't mired it reality. Trump rallies are full of people both young and old, hell the angry white (young) man is a running stereotype of the average trump/rupblicain supporter.

The news is disgusting and the man vile if true. Won't buy anything from oculus if true.

SV banked the the Obama campaign. And they're backing Hillary now.

Two guys--Thiel and Luckey--don't represent SV as a whole.

Why does it matter? If people find out that those in charge of Vive or whatever have abhorrent views, then they can make their decisions accordingly. Since I am now well-aware of Luckey's views and actions, I will make sure that he doesn't get a dime from me.

I guess everyone here is going to stop buying gasoline. Lol.

As a Rift owner this a tough one for me. I do want those Touch controllers and will probably buy them. Beyond that I really don't see myself supporting them any further.

It's true though, if people want to start talking about boycotting companies due to moral standing you will have to start culling a lot of products and services.

How about HTC?

HTC didn't do the brunt of the work. Valve did. But I agree with your overall point that Palmer is the face of the Rift.

Palmer got a ton of money for his stake when fb bought Oculus. Your money isn't going to Palmer.

See my above post. Palmer = Oculus. He's been the hype man since the beginning. FB changed nothing. And he still collects a paycheck. Do you think FB would keep him around if the Rift wasnt selling and it was due in part to his actions here?
