NX officially has the least time between reveal and release of any Nintendo platform

And even then, that remains pretty baseless speculation when the reveal could be entirely on track as planned.

It's not really baseless, as we have data from previous launches, not to mention how much is required for a worldwide launch (e.g. regarding public media events) of a console. Doesn't mean the speculation is right of course.

Of course she updated. Just like if it doesn't come this month she'll change to November, and if it's not November it'll be December, ect, ect. I have no idea why people put so much stock into Emily when sh's wrong all the time. She got lucky a few times, but that's it.

When did she herself say September?

The March date has always seemed a bit odd to me as households haven't quite recovered from their holiday spending. A Summer release seems more likely.

3DS released in March.

We're getting Pokemon news tomorrow. There's a huge chance the NX is actually a Pokemon.

And what a stunning launch it was. Though admittedly I don't think the date was the reason it stumbled out of the gate.
Yeah that had nothing to do with the release date...

Working with the cycle gamers are used to with console launches really dosent work for Nintendo IMO. Marketing wise or in content delivery. How many Nintendo fans end up buying a new box just for one launch window game anyway?

If the goal is broader appeal or breaking the mold, I'd argue a blitz close to launch is safer than showing a casual friendly/appealing box and waiting for months to sell the thing. Your just languishing your reveal hype and as time goes on the only people waiting for the date are the faithful who will be there either way.

Personally, It's been rare for me to purchase any console at launch and not experience a dust phase with it. Surely not the intention (all the time) of the maker but its common. Maybe with digital, DLC and ponying up to mobile Nintendo will have a strong gap filler. logically we're looking at a new box that will depend on Nintendo and the coalition of friendly publishers holding the weight while they build a base.

Selling a tech product over reveal hype isn't a bad thing; it proves to work and could be a good move. It dosent mean the product is sub par, it's just thinking more like a start up and playing to what the limitations are.

Consoles need to sell constantly well for a long time to be successful. Not just at launch. If the product is not good enough to be selling while "showing a casual friendly/appealing box and waiting for months to sell the thing" that means the post launch sales will be poor and the console will fail. The launch is just one part of the whole story. Again, Wii U nailed the launch and utterly failed after.

Will be fun coming back to this thread soon.

It's going to be in January.

Unless i was lied to.

Nintendo said they were showing it this year. There's thing that could happen which could delay the reveal without delaying the release. It's bneing shown this year, or it's not launching in March. I suppose there's a slight chance that Kimishima meant that they'll show it this fiscal year but I doubt that's what he meant.

If Nintendo waits until January to reveal it I'm waiting until 2018 to buy it.

Also, can people stop making this stupid "systems don't launch in March" argument? It's only relevant if you think Nintendo flat-out lied to investors, which they obviously didn't do.

Edit: Actually, I just saw when that Kimishima quote was made... Shit. I guess January really is most likely.

Why tomorrow?

Obviously could be utter bull, but someone in a past thread claimed they asked Laura of LPVG at Eurogamer Expo if she knew when the NX would be revealed and she said October 4th. There was also some tweet from another source this poster cited.

Of course, I'm highly highly sceptical, but it's for that reason that I'm waiting for tomorrow before wrapping it up for the week.

March is the perfect date to release if you miss the holiday. Spring is beginning and its just enough time after the holidays that people are in the mood to spend money on something new.
If you miss the Spring date and release too far into Summer, then people more than likely will consider putting off buying your item and save it for the following Xmas Season or worse forget about it altogether. Being that parents are a huge majority buying systems for kids it makes sense.

Hmm she said October 4th for the reveal.

I wouldn't mind if the NX was revealed in January though I don't expect it to be too much longer from now. If it was revealed in January and still released in March I feel like the hype would be even greater.

Maturity, bitches.
Why be concerned over the average household spend when it comes to a console launch?

The people who want to buy at launch will have the money ready.

When did she herself say September?

She never talked about the reveal month. The parts of the EG articles she supported were those about the device itself, not the parts about when the reveal is happening.

If Nintendo actually goes for a blitz strategy (so basically reveal in January and launch in March) then they are even bigger madmen than I previously thought.

I still think the reveal is coming this month and the launch month stays untouched though.

What's the Kimishima quote and why does it make you think January?

We will see. Definitely wasn't making fun.

So, we have kaioshade (January) v.s. Emily (October) now, eh :p

Seriously kaios, who told you about January for the reveal, and how reliable you can say he/she is?

I don't see the announcement happening out of the blue. I don't even see it getting a 24 hour warning like the rest of the directs usually do. It'll be a bizarre move if it goes down like that.

I could get behind the idea that tomorrow might be the announcement of the announcement though and the reveal is a week or more away.

Yes, the insane pricepoint and terrible launch lineup had more to do with it.

There's no point in even saying it lol. It gets ignored or people want to disregard her even though they believe the same hybrid rumor she's spouting.

That's what is mind-boggling to me. Cling to the hybrid rumor and everything else, but when she finally speaks on the reveal date, ignore it. How does that make any sense?

Do they know something or are they just projecting in hopes that it will have been announced before the issue goes to print?

I don't see how delaying the launch means lying. Nobody in business thinks like that. Plans can change. If Kimishima can come up with reasonable explanation for the delay to tell shareholders I don't see how the delay is impossible. In fact, if I'm a Nintendo shareholder right now I would have asked them to move some of their developers working on the NX to focus more on the mobile, considering how successful the PGO is.

They probably designed this cover assuming NX would be revealed by the time of writing. The URL says this was uploaded/made in August?

Where is the source for this? The dimensions of the cover look odd to me, not standard print

Edit: welp, see above

It's not. It's literally on the front page of their website. http://www.nintendoforcemagazine.com/

If it's not revealed by October 21st then they'll just change the cover.

Yeah...but I don't understand why put it now...they could've waited for the following issue (the one happening after the NX reveal).
Actually, I have a question: did they have the same kind of news featuring in Issue #23 cover at first as well? If that's the case, we would tend more to consider it as a putative news feature.

EDIT: Ah, right, posted on August 31st. I'd say nothing to see, then. Don't know when the issue comes out, the October 21st date is the cut-off to join the Patreon users who will get it.

Y'know, while I really, really, really don't want to believe that there won't even be a reveal date before the Q2 results, it's probably best if I just try to assume that.

Sigh.

Uh, in the United States they have, and many other countries don't quite as spend crazy. Tax return season, plus landing before the end of the fiscal year.

January reveal people must be pulling our leg. Nintendo said they'd have NX information in the fall didn't they?

Much as I doubt the whole thing, I think this is the most we can expect out of tomorrow, unless the announcement is announced today for a stream tomorrow.
