I mean, Nintendo sometimes does press hands-on events alongside their Directs, so we could get first impressions on YouTube from various outlets after the Direct/Digital Event (if Nintendo goes down that route).

Days before launch, someone needs to compile all the NX threads and do a retrospective on the journey we've had. Such wild speculation over such little concrete facts, even now ~5 months away from release.

Nintendo could announce some kind of mobile thing with Google tomorrow, but that would be the extent of it.

Well it seems tomorrow's Google event is to announce a new OS, so the reaching isn't as ridiculous as it first seemed.

I don't think the Google event has anything to do with NX. Maybe some mobile game but I don't see any reason to suggest anything Nintendo. That Majora's Mask meme could easily just be a fun gaming reference which has nothing to do with Zelda or Nintendo.

Nintendo will be at the Google event. They were at the Apple event. Doesn't mean its NX, just Nintendo just sort of in their usual ridiculous way wandered into mobile and had a big success.
We already know who their infrastructure partner is so its unlikely they'll be doing much more than the above as that's the main thing Google can offer.

I don't think there's anything to that at all.
The 3DS software, along with their mobile apps and Amiibo, are their only revenue streams this holiday season. The Wii U is dead. So of course they're going to do directs and other things to try to maximize sales of their fall software lineup and maybe sell some 3DS stock to people who got into Pokemon with Go and may want to jump into a mainline game with Sun/Moon. Otherwise, I'd think Pokemon fans already owned 3DSs for the existing games in the series.

I don't think NX is coming out in Q1 2017, but I do think, that in this day and age, with how quickly information spreads, they don't need 6 months between announcement and launch either. The same amount of people will buy an NX next month if it gets announced today as would buy one if it is announced 12 months out. Hype is instant with social media and the internet, and if anything, longer gestating periods give customers more time to second guess if they really want the new thing or not.

They won't announce the NX until a month affter it's released. It'll be like how Frog Fractions 2 will be, they won't say it is Frog Fractions 2 until someone catches on to it being Frog Fractions 2.

Modern marketing is all about senses, and feelings.
But We GAFers are well educated (so, we can make some educated guesses about nintendo plans)
One of those is about the problem with the "NX reveal".
If rumours are true and nintendo has already started test production, then there are space for a leak.
If nintendo is planning to send stock around the world before the "NX reveal" to do a PS4 slim, then there are space for a leak.
I believe most agree in the fact that in todays consumer behavoir theres not really necesary a lot of time to make a decision.
We are only a couple of clicks away from what we want.
