Project Scorpio to be shown off next week according to Jez C... (READ MOD POST)

There would be multiple sku with $399 base, i think that is confirmed or likely to be.
I think they're going to find a way to launch at 399, or at least at the lowest possible headline price. Wondering if they'll have a "customise your bundle" thing on their website... Already got an Xbox one with controllers and 4tb of hard disk, just get the base unit and a 500gb hdd... Boom that's your lowest sticker price right there for existing xb1 fans. Bundles still exist for retail with everything you need (controller, 1tb) for new owners. Would make so much sense.

(usual disclaimer: All speculation from me, no inside info)

Edit: Great minds and all that:

Yep. I'm hoping for something like this.

I was skeptical until the tweets about a third-party site having exclusive rights to show it off. For some reason, that detail makes me pretty confident I can believe the rumor.

If it really is DF, that gets me hyped, because it says to me that MS is very confident in the specs and performance boost.

I was thinking this too, but I'd be fine playing it on Xbox One for a couple months if need be too. Consoles tend to be released in November, though.

At the same time, Forza seems to be the big console launch game at the moment and that's traditionally launched in mid-to-late September. It's withing reason they could do September with Forza + Crackdown, then another big first party title for the holiday.

Hell, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense that they really want to get Scorpio out for the big third-party launches of September and October. GTAV was launched in mid-September too, right? If they're showing off Red Dead Redemption 2 at this event... Hmm.

Both Destiny 2 and RDR 2 has exclusive marketing to PS4. Doubt sony will let them show any scorpio ,before game actually release

What I think MS will do

April: Tech side, release benchmarks, specs revealed, what can we expect of the machine along with Digital Foundry

May: Scorpio reveal, showing the box, the price, some 2016 games (BF1, FH3, GeOW4) running on it and the comparisons between the Xbox One and Scorpio, along with Forza Motorsport 7 world premiere running on Scorpio @ 4K/60fps maybe Crackdown 3 too.

June: E3, games, games, games

We should hope it is DF because if it's someone like IGN would you really trust them to provide the gritty tech details ?

This is what I was getting at.

If Microsoft are willing to open up to DF, then they know this thing has serious grunt

Really doesnt matter unless they unleash some new games
I completely agree. I would love to see new games benefiting from the hardware boost, otherwise what would be the point. Not just 4k Gears and Halo leading the way. Software makes the hardware.

Like i said in the last unlocked thread i want microsoft to impress me. Im really considering just building a pc and going all in with a 1080 ti but if this thing can keep me on a console for a little longer i wouldnt mind...mind you im not expecting anything similar to that card

I don't mind if it's 599. It's a premium product according to MS as long as they deliver Specs on that price.

According to Phill there is the entry level, the Xbox one S to whom ever wants the console . This is directed towards premium users

Just like not everyone can afford the highest GPU on the market.

If this holiday is COD WWII, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Destiny 2 I don't it will matter if there is a single first party game released. Those games are going to monsters.

Good timing. Sony (and now Nintendo) continue to dominate the conversation, so a good time to get more details out. Then by E3 they can just focus on the games.

It would be an interesting approach to have a console reveal happen via a website. However, given that this is an iterative console that has technically already been announced, I guess that this would make sense. If it's going to have lots of tech details, that probably wouldn't be appropriate for E3, and a website like DF would get the info out to those who are interested in those sorts of details.

Xbox One was revealed May 2013, so it could well happen over the next few weeks.
Think it is best to have a specific event, you can just focus on the hardware, maybe show a few trailers and then focus on the software at E3, maybe reveal the Scorpio VR headset at E3.

Yep.

They'll go higher with bigger hard drives and maybe an SSD limited edition in other SKUs. Base will be $399 without a doubt.

500GB - $399
1TB - $479
500GB SSD and Elite 2.0 Controller - $699

premium console: $499+, no SSD at all.

Yep. I have this scenario in my mind where they saw the write-up they did in January that was kind of underwhelming and then gave them a call and said 'oh yeah? Why don't you take the real thing for a drive.'

It would also cut down on the cost of producing an unveiling conference or video because DF will do it for them in this case.

If consider the Xbox Scorpio as a PS4 Pro but 1 year later, $399 fits.

Have to wait and see what the specs are like but if they aren't anything out of the ordinary like normal tech advancement of a year, $399.

People saying Premium, it would be like revealing PS4 Scorpio is 4.5TF a year before launch compared to a PS4 of 1.8TF. What a beast, no way will that be $399. See what I mean?

I would be very ok with that. But some kind of stage show would be great too. They have a hardware event coming up, perfect to show the damn thing there. Plus if this system is really so powerful that it can run Battlefront 2 and RDR2 at Native 4K, MS should be proud and show it.

Ah well, let's just wait and see.

499 is downright delusional, both the people here thinking that and Microsoft if they think they could get away with that in today's market

They've said time and time again that it is a premium console. They are not marketing it to everyone so I could definitely see this as a possibility.

Problem with all 3 of those is I don't think we'll see them on Scorpio until after E3 since Sony has marketing deals on them.

Oh and for folks wondering, I don't think we're going to see the price any time soon, or even by E3 (if the news is bad). If it's $399 then you'll hear that at E3. If you don't hear that, then it's probably higher.

The thing is, DF will send the message to the target audience. They then have E3 for the casual "spec talk" like "10 billion transistors, quality pixels!" Etc.

They can then avoid the inevitable forum trash talk because DF already gave the real details to back up the shit talk.

399$ it's already premium enough, by the time Scorpio releases you will be able to afford a Xbox One with 199$ with games on Black Friday.

No way this is higher than 399$.

Yeah, that will be the smart thing to do. Get all the hardware details about Scorpio out of the way and come E3 just amaze us with game announcements.

The only adjustment I would make is continue to tease us with Scorpio info from now until E3. At E3 do something similar to what Sony did last year and just show game footage and trailers of upcoming games. Phil Spencer comes out at the end with the Scorpio, announces price and release date...and that's a wrap. That way people will be more motivated to preorder. If they unveil the Scorpio before E3 then it won't have as much of a buzz without the news about the upcoming games.

Just bought a Pro w/ my new LG OLED and I'm loving the 4k, even its "fake 4K' like I'm sure some people will point out.

All it know is that Horizon in 1800p CB / HDR looks amazing, and I can't wait to get the same visual quality on the Xbox side.

Personally the price is a non issue to me no matter what it is... as long as the price is directly proportional or less than the performance of the machine. If the premium pricetag is there solely for the sake of a premium pricetag on a "premium" product a la apple, then yeah, that would be a big no no for me.

They have Xbox One S bundles that are over $399, one of them is $499.

They dont have an artificial price barrier that they shouldnt cross because they have Xbox One S to cater to less wealthy consumers.

More expensive than the PS4 Pro is going to be a PR nightmare. I just couldn't believe they would be that stupid to do it two times in a row.

All 3rd party, that will no doubt have generous numbers on the Scorpio. Still doesn't justify a completely new beffier console sku.

The first party and console exclusive efforts to need to be next level to encourage the upgrade. I just want to see new ideas on new tech.

I have a lot of doubts indeed. 320 GBs of bandwidth and 12 GB not sounds cheap to me. If it was that easy, ps4 pro could have 255 GBs easily indeed the misery of 217.

I for one honestly cant wait. I am a sucker for a powerful console.

But i need to see exclusives for me to consider buying another xbox because i already have a gtx1080 pc .

I'm curious about the new "updated" same generation console idea that both Sony and Xbox are going for. Is it really worth it? Building a niche product for few years that will probably sell better right at the end of this gen when prices are down. Financially it can't make much sense.

If Microsoft makes a stupid decision with the price it will impact you since that will determine how many people buy it and ultimately how well it is supported in terms of content. Greater than $399 is suicide no matter how technically superior it is to the PS4 Pro.

now he is saying forza 7 might be shown next week

That is why i asked earlier , how is it that only one guy is in the know and could easily tweet about it , it doesn't make sense. We either have to trust his word or just forget about it. there is still no other alternate source apart from one or two , that could confirm these news.
