Interesting. At this point six years ago, I recall that people were generally ravenous for the Wii. Hype was ridiculous.

Not for me. I didn't buy one until Super Mario Galaxy was released. Most people I know brought one for Twilight Princess, but I was very much content with the Gamecube version (which is far superior anyway).

Given the history of the user (I'm on that forum too) I'd say that those are all bullshit.
Especially the "I'm a Crytek betatester" part. lol
Ciao... ho usato GAF come test per vedere se diceva cacate o meno :D
Non ho idea di chi sia onestamente :D

I'm sorry guys, I'm not a technician and I had "no idea" of his reliability... what I read was bla bla bla "Wii U is quite powerfull".
I saw a lot of users giving credit to him and used GAF as a test.

- Crytek is NOT developing a game for Wii U, but they created a Crysis 3 level just to fully understand the console capabilities
- apparently he tried this level on the last DevKit available
- the game run on dx9 with a native 720p resolution, fxaa filter (it is impossible to use txaa), good framerate (30-35 stable fps), high quality texture (no pop up as in the Ps3/x360 game version due to the higher RAM amount), not fully implemented water shaders
- great particles effects (ambient occlusion on par with PC version)
- lighting effect on par with PC version (ultra setting)
- in the dev kit he tested, it is not possible to "turn off" the Pad monitor, so that it always streams 480p contents
- the programming staff thinks that (they are not sure) toggling off the Pad monitor, the game could run on a 1080p native resolution

In other posts he is well impressed by the overall console power, but he hopes that in future dev kits there will be the opportunity to disable the Wii U pad in order to unleash the console full power.

He thinks Crytek will show this demo on E3 showflor even if the game is not under development.

So... what the hell does ambient occlusion have to with particle effects, lol

I know I was. I remember buying one of those fake Wii TV remotes from an auction site in August or September, just so I could see it up close. My Nintendo-lovin' co-workers absolutely freaked when I brought it in to work one night; they were psyched to see it, but a bit disappointed that I didn't want to take it out of its box..

Fair enough. I'm in a similar situation with the Wii U. It sounds really neat, but unless there's more to it off the bat, I can wait a bit.

Can't turn the touchscreen off? Of all the dumb shit to make up. All you gotta do is not turn it on.

Saying it like that reminds me of all those dreams I had as a kid where I couldn't turn a video game off and was forced to play it forever, haha.

Yeah, I don't know when I'll get a Wii U. I got a Wii that first Christmas, but I waited until the price drop to get a 3DS, so I'm not sure. I guess I'll just get it for Christmas again if I don't have more important stuff like couches or beds or something. I might cheat like I usually do and pre-order it but not allow myself to touch it before Christmas, just to make sure there isn't a crazy rush like there was for the Wii. Pikmin and NSMB are enough for me to get it soon after launch. This is assuming it won't be at a ridiculous price like $400 or over though.

Question, I saw on Wikpedia that Rabbids Rumble is headed for Wii U, Wii, and 360, has this been said anywhere, or is it usual Wikipedia BS?
According to the OP there's an untitled Rabbids project for the Wii U, so it's possible. May be usual Wikipedia junk, but there's a Rabbids game coming either way, I guess.

I remember wanting to buy one of those, but my parents wouldn't let me buy stuff off ebay. Good times.

I remember being incredibly ravenous for both the Wii and the 3DS, honestly. Also fairly ravenous for the DS Phat, although I believe I didn't get one until Tetris DS rolled around much, much later. (And now I lost my copy of Tetris DS and can't be sure which eBay copies aren't pirated copies. Boo.)

I'm feeling pretty ravenous over the Wii U, too, but given the 3DS had that whole ugly vertical line thing (which have become permanent marks on my screen protectors, but not necessarily permanent scratches on the screen itself), I'm somewhat content to wait it out until something comes out that I absolutely must have... which might be day one, depending on what the launch lineup looks like.

I know about Ubi confirming Rabbids for Wii U at E3 and the Rumble rating, I was wondering if anything else came up that referenced the other platforms.

What I find suspicious in there, is that generally, you need years to understand the hardwares capabilities and fully exploit its potential. Just look how 2006 current gen games look compared to the 2011 ones.

Also, not being able to turn off the streaming sounds ridiculous, and totally unrelated to the horse power capabilities. You can still create a thread that generates a 2D black screen, it won't eat the WiiU GPU, and you don't need the streaming output to run the demo. Plus, this sounds as the opposite to the Ideaman rumor about face tracking and the possibility to dynamically level up or down the subscreen image quality. Finally, how is locked? Do you have a fatal error saying "your code is not outputing anything on the subscreen" when compiling? I can't figure that out in my understanding.

Once Mario 64 becomes a Holodeck experience then we'll get the "ahhh" factor back. In my opinion Mario 64 is still the best game ever made and still impresses with its clean graphics. I imagine we're getting close to a new breakthrough that will once again take us deeper into the gameworld.

It's a Nintendo console: it probably is custom.
I'm still unshaken in my idea that we may be seeing another GameCube here: custom hardware that ends-up being maximized for efficiency to a very impressive degree.

Also ringing a bell: Nintendo pursuing the hardcore crowd, skeptical hardcore media viewing it with a crooked eye, lots of really good games that end-up being made..

Gamecube for the small amount of games won many "game of the years"

Yup! The GameCube was a friggin' treat as far as games goes. If Nintendo can keep the games coming, a lot of us Nintendo console-only gamers (or Nintendo/PC gamers) are in for quite an HD treat.

Yep, some of the most impressive games graphically were on that box. I am still in awe at Metroid Prime and RE 4. Even the lighting system in Luigi's Mansion still impresses me.

Gamecube was one of my fave consoles. Which is why I was sad I had to basically abandon Nintendo for a gen. Still played some of the games I wanted to but never bought the console for myself.

I hope not, I was pretty disappointed with the in-house Nintendo titles on the 'cube.

Metroid Prime is the undisputed best game of last generation. In fact, I shall start a new playthrough when I go home for the summer

RE4 is the best game last gen, & probably would make a hypothetical top 10 this gen(with the Wii version).

You know what? Calling it: Wii U will get another port of RE4 instead of getting RE6, it'll flop, and Capcpom will conclude from this and RE:R that Nintendo fans don't want Resident Evil.
