[N-Conf] ZombiU for WiiU

While the perma-death concept sounds awesome for this game, it makes me a bit worried that there is no real sense of progression and that the game is just meant to be a pick up and play game like an early arcade game. No sense of completion or even a longer meaningful experience.

I have this weird feeling there's still ways to save the game and there's an end, the lady that was being interviewed just did a piss poor job of explaining the game properly.

Could be wrong, though. As it is, it doesn't sound like something I'd like. Permadeath and redoing stuff all the time aint my thing.

More I hear about it, more I'm interested. Ubi prolly have another Red Steel on their hands here.

Not a stupid name, it actually makes a lot of sense. I thought it sucked at first though.

You thought it sucked because it does suck. Puns aren't automatically good- in fact most of them stink, and this is a prime example.

Sometimes it looks like he's moving with the D-Pad and looking around with the whole gamepad instead of using the right stick so anything can be possible. Knowing Ubisoft, we won't know until the game gets demo'd in realtime.

It would make absolutely no sense for it to be on-rails. The whole point of the game is exploring to find stuff to survive..being on rails would ruin that...

Yea, pretty nice. Definitely a huge leap forward from previous generation. Kameo, in particular, is still a beautiful game to this day.

Just saw the gameplay demo and the concept sounds like something I'd hate. Lots of redoing stuff, no checkpoints or anything so I've got to start over every time I boot up the game? No thanks.

I'd rather have this than just another generic brown shooter than handholds you through a corridor full of scripted events, activates a checkpoint after every big explosion and lets you regenerate health just by crouching behind a fence, like we've been "suffering" for 5 years straight already.

Didn't you want hardcore games? Nothing more hardcore than one hit perma-death IMHO. The type of shooter portrayed above is as casual and 12-years-old-friendly as it gets despite the efforts of publishers and gaming journalists of trying to convince you that they're OMG SO HARDCORE AND MATURE AND HIP.

I'm just gonna say, check out DayZ. The concept is already playable.

Is the gameplay footage up anywhere? I can't find it yet, and I missed it live. I'm excited to see this.
Yeah and the game is highly praised so whats different here? Why shouldn't this game be given a shot?

Okay this is looking less like a Red Steel case than expected.. Which is always a good sign. I think if they had demoed this during the conference people would probably feel a little more excited about the WiiU.. Maybe.

Yep, this should have been up there instead of Batman. Would have made a big difference.

Also, I mentioned this in the other thread, but this game should be launching within a few weeks of the season premier of The Walking Dead.

That's pretty fortunate timing on Ubisoft's part :)

If Nintendo can get more interesting games like this that are mature core games that take really good advantage of the new controller, I will definitely be on board the new system. The gameplay concept video is awesome, really fantastic use of the unique features of the machine.

Did I want 'hardcore' games? No. I refuse to play Dark Souls cuz I do not like being punished in a game. Its not fun for me at all.

As for these games that we've been 'suffering' through, I've had a great time with gaming the past generation. Its been fantastic.

Permadeath, real time menus, one bite kills. I'm amazed a major developer/publisher is actually putting out a game that's this hardcore. It looks awesome.

It does, but it seems no one cares. It's not flashy enough, it's another Zombie game (allthough finally one that deserves the survival title)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to it. The Gamepad integration looks amazing and the concept itself is exactly what I wanted for years. Everyday survivors, one bite kills, realtime menus and great gameplay mechanics.

I guess we have different views on what make games fun after all. I miss all those 90s FPS like Half Life, Blood, Quake I&II, NOLF, DN3D, Shogo M.A.D., etc... that required some skill and an attention span that goes beyond 10 seconds without instant gratification. This gen has been a nightmare for the FPS lover in me.

If there's no endpoint or goal besides survival, I could see this getting boring really quickly . Hopefully, there's more depth to the game.

Nothing wrong with being a casual gamer.

I liked the concept behind it, but the impression I got up until now is that is a "Survive as long as you can" game. Without a plot or narrative like L4D to push me forward.

From what has been shown the perma-death mechanic seems quite manageable. Progression is based completely on your gear, and gear on a character you lose is not gone forever. If you find a turned survivor and kill him, you get the gear he had when you died with him.

You guys are fucking nuts, looks way better than any FPS for current consoles.

It really doesn't. I watched it in HD on my 42" screen and I assure you its a small step below some of the better FPS games out there. Somebody mentioned Left 4 Dead-level of graphics and thats about right.

It's got nice lighting. Models aren't so strong. But for something that's probably not had a larger budget and much dev time on a new console, I don't think it's anything to be ashamed of.

Again was it a magical copy of L4D you played?
