Destructoid "Call of Duty Ghosts performs smoothly on Xbox One"

Yea, I noticed frame drops as I think he was heading towards some pickup item. It's definitely not a solid 60 in MP, but 30+ and an occasional 40-50+ seems isn't bad either. Game still looks fantastic visually, and it doesn't have bad performance.

lol this guy

i was thinking that too. I wonder if it's pressure from Sony. There's nothing to back up my thoughts, but it is inconsistent to have one with better resolution and one with a better frame rate (allegedly).

Sony is forcing nothing, case in point BF4. Get that thought out of your head...

not only is it inconsistent, but Mark Rubin himself said that they had to make sure both versions got the best framerate and visuals possible, so if he's saying PS4 is solid 60fps, and it's not, then he has some 'splainin to do.

Frame rate drops can't always be fixed by dropping the resolution. The PC version isn't stuttering because the resolution is too high for a Titan.

People should keep in mind that multiple journalists have said they played the entire campaign on PS4 without seeing any frame rate issues.

Smoothly. Rock solid. Slide show. Bogged. Fluid. Framy. Stutters. Steady.

All ways to describe 60fps dropping into the 40s briefly when all hell breaks loose.

Dear professional reviewers, invest in equipment capable of ending this bullshit. If you have it, hook it up correctly.

This. Its probable that lowering the resolution on the PS4 version did nothing to fix the framerate issues. What were looking at here is shit optimization, plain and simple.

I think someone else already said it before, but it's probably the case where people who say they see no frame-rate issues just aren't that sensitive to them. It's probably the same for this person's impression based on very limited playtime.

Give the same game to someone like dark10x though...

This makes me wonder if it was a caching issue on the PS4. The PS4 cache installs to the hdd as you are playing it the first few hours the first time you play the game. It could be marginally detrimental to the framerate during this period if initial rumblings are to be believed.

If that is the case, those who spent a longer amount of time should no longer see frame drops (at least not as bad as initially) as they spend more time with the game.

This might not be an issue if the game was first installed onto the hdd or is a fully downloaded digital copy.

what I find stranger is... aren't there reports that BOTH next gen system suffer from stuttering?

There's game journalism and then there's "game journalism", and we're being fed some naive information...which is making everyone paranoid and uneasy.

Wooooooah, I didn't say anything about Xbone getting cleared. My only stance on this article is that it is absolutely fucking meaningless, and I used another game to support that.

Ghosts is garbage on PC, we know that for sure.

Yea you are right, I was just saying about the "cant compare game modes" thing. Like one mode wont or shouldnt run smoother than another mode. It makes no sense.

Anyways I think with CODG, its not about which console its the best on since it runs poorly on all platforms. We should be just calling out IW/Acti for their crap release this year.

So now a comment saying a game runs smoothly is equal to a Digital Foundry breakdown? OK

GAF is almost bi-polar at times. I thought nobody trusted DF? :p

Personally,I have very little interest in this game, but somehow I get the feeling if he had said Xbox One version of COD performs at mid 30fps constantly, the reaction would be a LITTLE more accepting to his words. :)

GAF is not a single entity.

It's a general statement of overall reactions at times to DF, which anyone can acknowledge has been insanely negative in an almost universal fashion. Be honest. Keep in mind, I said "almost." It's a wild swing at times. One moment, it's "screw DF they have zero credibility," and the next it's "let's wait to see what DF says about it." And trust me, the same people that say to hell with DF, or that they have no credibility, are the same ones that agree with DF whenever they say something they like or agree with.

we trust their hard metrics. some trust their opinions and conclusions, some don't. but their frame rate analysis has never been questioned.

Considering how badly the PC version runs, at this point no one would be surprised to hear that it plays like crap on PS4 or XBOne.

Really all I'm getting out of any of this is neither console can run a game at 1080p. I sure hope this is just poor optimization.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Just like with some people agreeing with this article and others not. Hmmm.

One thing's certain, I wouldn't advise anybody I know to get this based on what I've heard about it. I've been showing battlefield MP to some friends, and they're stunned how crazy it is.

I sucked six dicks to get this tag.
I bet if you drop the PS4 resolution to 720p in the PS3 settings it'll look better and still have a smooth framerate.

lol

Like what Metalmurphy said, it's hard to take someone serious if they can't tell if the game is running at 720p.

You know what? If I saw this game running and didn't know better, I would be willing to bet I wouldn't know.its 720p or not either without a side by side.

I can't tell the Wii U version isn't 720p...it's close enough where I can't tell.

True dat.

Hopefully this will finally be the year of CoD's fall from grace, which may result in them actually putting some effort into the next one.

I'm going to make the
not
bold prediction that the XOne version is just as choppy as the PC/PS4 version.

It's going to take more than one person who admits they can't really tell the difference between 1080p and 720p to convince me the framerate is rock solid on the One.

ah so he's a liar. good call.

Or he just doesn't notice. There are people who can't tell the difference between 30 and 60FPS.

I personally don't have an opinion on it. I only came in to read reactions. :p

And, really, you generally hate to be in a position where you want one game to do far better than another, but the difference in the two offerings are quite big, I think.

Glad I kept my PS4 games sealed, after hearing all this, I think I'm gonna return Ghosts and just exchange for another title.

It becomes obvious when having a TV over 40 inches.

On a 20 inch monitor, the differences are there, but people with an untrained eye won't be able to tell the difference.

Hell, one of my friends that has never owned an HD console (before the Wii U, since he's a Nintendo fan) can't tell the difference between 480p and 1080p. I have no idea how.

Well, there's a portion of GAF right now that refuses to trust any outlet that (1) says anything even remotely positive about the X1 or (2) doesn't declare the PS4 superior in every way. It makes most X1 threads almost unreadable at times. I suggested this before - there should be a duplicate thread for all Xbox news where those so disposed can shit all over the Xbox ad naseum. The rest of us can discuss the news...lol.

Versions of Ghosts for next gen console seem to be fluid and hasty at this point, and I fully expect patches for both versions on their respective launch days. Also, how people see framerate is pretty subjective.

I remember Jeff at Giantbomb saying the frame rate in the Wii U version of BLOPS2 was pretty questionable, then I played it myself and it seemed fine. I'm sure he was right for him personally, but it didn't bother me at all after 3-4 hours of playing.

Jeff also said on this week's Bombcast, IW has had to develop this game for 5 systems as opposed to 2-3, and I think there's a probably a good chance they did spend more time optimizing the 360/XB1 versions because that's what they see as their target audience as opposed to the PC and Playstation platforms.

We're not going to know the real story about either version before 11/15 and 11/22 other than what journalists/bloggers tell people. I trust very few of these people, agendas seem to be the game of choice right now. It'll be interesting and telling after launch who was right and who was just telling a section of people what they wanted to hear.

So much arguing over a shitty game...

The argument really should have ended when people with Titans were reporting garbage performance. If it runs slightly better on a weaker system that just means IW fucked up, but people are using it as an indictment of PS4 somehow.

Are you serious?

IGN (whom I'm using as an example) gets shit on all the time but as soon as an exclusive review comes out the thread posts go four ways:
1. "Fuck yea! I knew it was going to be awesome! Eat it haters! Blaaargh! Now let me present you with a bunch of gifs."
2. "I want to see what the reviewers and what people on GAF think."
3. "LOL! I knew insert game/system/mother/father/long lost second cousin is terrible! Now let me present you with a bunch of gifs."
4. "Money hats!"

Edit: I've been guilty of all 4

I can't necessarily tell if a game is 720p or 1080p just by looking at it. In comparison perhaps, but I'm more liable to notice things like AA, textures, lighting, particle effects, and animation if all I have is what is in front of me. Same goes for 30/60fps. Some games I can tell, others not so much. Sometimes it doesn't really matter all that much if it isn't affecting the game. I'll definitely notice if the framerate drops though.

Well, I think things are thawing out a bit the closer we approach launch, and things will settle after both machines are available for at least a year. The arguing over the small stuff will subside. The NPD threads, however, will be chaos lol.

haha...one match.

Yea, I just spotted that. Pretty bad sample size for any game.
