I'm calling it now - we're getting a release date at Tokyo Game Show.
Maybe TGS 2016.
I'm calling it now - we're getting a release date at Tokyo Game Show.
But weren't both games announced at the same time?
Takahashi already stated that the idea behind Xenoblade was for Monolith Soft to distance themselves from the style associated with Xenogears and Xenosaga, viewing the story-heavy approach over gameplay as a dead end. It doesn't seem likely that they would change their minds for X.sigh.
oh well, maybe X will build off of the success of Xenoblade and have a story more in the scale of Xenogears/Xenosaga, and I'll get my epic JRPG fix in the next 3-4 years there instead.
I guess Sony saw this coming and sold all SE stocks before the value dropping again?
What does SE even have for 2014, 2015 beside remastered stuff?
LOL...oh man, I guess we shouldn't have bought FFX:RM because SE will now remastered FF13 at this point before releasing a new IP.
Considering what Square Enix has been doing as of lately, not only do they shame themselves, they shame their ancestors AND their descendants. Sakaguchi wakes up every night in a cold sweat because he can feel a disturbance in the force. And for whatever wrong he DID bring to Square(TSW), he was a damn fine leader till the end(moreso than the jokers who've been leading the company since).Square Enix just shot themselves in the foot.I dont know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (Im an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. Its not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance. What this means is the Japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Final Fantasy 15 for either system, nor will they purchase any other Square Enix games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Square Enix has alienated an entire market with this move. Square Enix, publicly apologize and show Final Fantasy 15 at E3 or you can kiss your business goodbye.
This is how it feels. SE dancing around those who wanted and making the most of it.
Well there goes a chance of my December 2015 release date for Japan.
Toriyama wanted to get FFXIII out first and early (lol) as this is the first installment in the series."hard at work on the European version of Kingdom Hearts II, so they're only in the art and pre-production phase of development on the PS3 title"
"Absolutely nothing has been done on the actual scenario. However, I've had the plot worked out for some time, so you could say I'm discussing the plot and concept with the staff. However, we've yet to start actual work on the scenario."
Hyper PlayStation asked why they just didn't made the game into a numerical sequel instead of calling it Versus, Nomura responded with:
"With Versus, we are trying out a type of adventure that we couldn't do in the numbered series."
Don't expect Final Fantasy Versus XIII anytime soon then.."The hurdles are greater than they were in the move from the PS1 to the PS2. We're probably at the point where we could make a PS3 title. However, we're currently researching how to fully tap the specs. Things like real time footage and specifics on areas like the battle system will come once the White Engine is complete. We're currently working hard on the development of the White Engine], and once it's done, we'll have to research what can be done with it. Of course, we do have an idea of what we'd like to do"
Nomura says he prefers to work on one project at a time which is why he is currently focusing on his mobile game, Monotone at this time. He says he isn't forgetting about Versus but just waiting until he has more free time to begin working on it. He also doesn't want to begin working on Versus quite yet because of the high specifications of the PS3. He wants to utilize all the technology the PS3 contains and produce the game that he envisioned which isn't possible at the moment.
Looking back at this really makes me laugh..This week Nomura was interviewed by Famitsu, but no new details have emerged. Here's a translation I wrote:
· Nomura was never involved in the creation of any Final Fantasy title as deeply he is right now, and he likes the fact he can take Final Fantasy Versus XIII where he wants it to be.
· Nomura says the PlayStation 3 hardware plays a huge part in the development of both projects, and by using it "all visions can come true". He says that visual-wise both Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII are superior from any former title in the franchise, and they are "close to perfection".
· As in any interview, Nomura was asked about the game's exclusivity. This time he mentioned that the Tokyo Game Show 2007 trailers had the writing "for PlayStation 3 ONLY". He says it's an advantage for one team to concentrate on one console, even if some fans are disappointed.
Next year huh? Okay, we shall patiently wait. The 7th gen of video games consoles "just" kicked in.Nomura addressed the Versus XIII trailer, noting that the staff has at last managed to reach the image they were originally seeking. The trailer has two new characters, but he expects them to undergo some changes in later trailers. He does feel, however, that the main character design is representative of what we'll be seeing when the game shows its true colors next year.
Originally scheduled huh? 2016 then?"Reports that development for Final Fantasy Versus XIII is on hold are false. The truth of the situation is that when free, some staff from the Versus team have been helping with the XIII team on development of Final Fantasy XIII. Development for both titles is continuing as originally scheduled."
In fact, the next sequence was a round table style discussion with Motomu Toriyama, Hajime Tabata and others, where they discussed elements of Final Fantasy XIII. The inclusion of Versus XIII was specifically done to highlight that the development on the game was real, as the team had read numerous rumors online that stated that the game didn't exist.
Nobody cares and want the game just to release already."We'll be looking into it internally until right before the formal announcement."
He also states we shouldn't expect any information regarding this game at GamesCom 2010. He also can't share a lot of info because of Square-Enix's policy of promoting games in the order of their release."Agito and Versus have different production styles and progress states, but they're both presently undergoing voice casting."
Some more details about the game are revealed."they're trying to do a number of incredible things and the focus is on quality, they will need more time. He joked that because Duodecim Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy Type-0 and Final Fantasy XIII-2 are all due out this year, players should forget about Versus for the time being."
Happy waiting GAF.So when will we get our next bit of Versus XIII info? Nomura said that the timing for the next reveal has been set, but he would not say when. For the next update, though, he said that they'd like to deliver it along with some good information.
GAF thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=444349At yesterdays Fan Meeting, staff members Motomu Toriyama and Yoshinori Kitase were quizzed on a number of things FINAL FANTASY.
Kitase briefly commented on FINAL FANTASY Versus XIII, the only member of the Fabula Nova Crystallis compilation still shrouded in mystery. He says that Type-0 and Versus XIII have of course advanced to 100% development power. It should be noted, however that the team has used their know-how from developing FINAL FANTASY XIII in order to create XIII-2 with a much shorter development period, and as such, the reason why it will release ahead of time.
GAF thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=445773Nomura says that he recently did a walkthrough of the full world map. He also did a check on the game's dungeons and the side paths in the game's towns. He was impressed with how expansive everything is.
When Square Enix announced the development of its "Luminous" next generation engine, some very cruel people joked that maybe Versus would be updated to use it. Actually, the game does use the lightning technology from Luminous, Nomura reveals. However, the game also uses a game specific engine that's specialized for action.
With Versus, Nomura promises a Final Fantasy like you've never seen before.
GAF thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=459290- Square Enix won't be holding an event ala last year's January press conference this year. However, Nomura said that he'd like to make some sort Versus related announcement/showing this year, although he can't say when or where.
- The next time we see Versus XIII, we will get a look at it being controlled on actual hardware.
GAF thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=483255One source tells Kotaku that Final Fantasy Versus XIII was officially cancelled within the last few weeks. The decision impacted morale at Square Enix and staff were reportedly saddened by the move.
Square Enix, this source added, has also decided to let Final Fantasy Versus XIII die quietly on the vine and fade away, instead of officially announcing its cancellation. This would likely be due to the fact a public acknowledgement of a Versus' cancellation could impact things like Square Enix's stock prices.
GAF thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=483626"It seems someone is spreading a false rumor about Versus being canceled. Heh, just a few moments ago a regularly scheduled meeting for Versus ended. If you were to see the city etc. presented today, you wouldn't be able to stand from surprise, lol."
Wait a little more? Okay, why not, we've been waiting for almost 7 years but whatever.Final Fantasy Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura was a special guest on the latest broadcast of Square Enix Radio where he was questioned about updates regarding the highly anticipated title.
ー When will new information regarding Final Fantasy Versus XIII be announced?
Nomura: Even within the company its a very delicate problem. The date when we can concretely lift the ban has been decided and we are preparing for that moment. Maybe the details as to why information couldnt be released might be touched upon at the next information announcement. Im sorry its already overdue, but please wait just a little more.
They could, I don't know... hire competent managers?
Review their developping process?
Let's just remember that Square released the following FF titles in the last 4 years:
FFXIII
FFXIII-2
FFXIV
LR: FFXIII
That's 4 high profile FF entries releasing within 4 years. It's not unheard of for a game to be in development hell for a decade or so. Let's at least give Square credit for actually releasing these games in a timely manner.
Takahashi already stated that the idea behind Xenoblade was for Monolith Soft to distance themselves from the style associated with Xenogears and Xenosaga, viewing the story-heavy approach over gameplay as a dead end. It doesn't seem likely that they would change their minds for X.
Well fuck...
post
Watch them surprise everyone with an FF7 remake announcement.
Big post incoming, please don't quote it all!!
How many generations of children have grown up with FF now being a more or less incompetent brand?
It's not even one generation at this point.. It's more like 2 or 3.
I love how Kingdom Hearts 2.5 is classified as "new". Stockholm Syndrome is a scary thing...One of the reasons this doesn't upset me anymore is that I have plenty to do in FF14. I'm also really looking forward to the new Theatrhythm and KH2.5 so it's not like I won't have new things to play either.
You guys just need to chill.

But we all know it will be ported to smartphones and f2p.Might as well port it down and make it a launch title for Nintendo's new handheld as well...

I guess the entire FF series came out during the millennial generation... But I was thinking of it this way: if you were 10 when FFX came out, you'd grow up to be an adult who never saw a great FF in his childhood again. But then when you turned 18, another 10 year old at that time would go on to grow up to adulthood without seeing a great FF.well depending on your definition of generation it's like one.
I don't think its about wanting any game.
This particular game is such a bitch....fu FFXVersus...

That's why you should stop expecting it and just be happy when it does finally show up.
And Square Enix wonders why their sales are dwindling across the sea. No one gives a shit about TGS.. Publications don't even bother sending out journalists anymore for the event.lets just look at the good side, this just means they are focused on making the game right now, and arent waisting their time on making a trailer to show on the other side of the world
i just jope at TGS or even Gamescom? they show something, maybe a live gameplay demo
I think I need a psychiatrist.
I am developing a new OCD-esque disorder because of this game <_<

Maybe TGS 2016.
So why on earth is E3 not the ideal time to show your game? It's just a fucking lie, just tell me the truth. That's because TGS has seemingly been crap for a while now.
So why on earth is E3 not the ideal time to show your game? It's just a fucking lie, just tell me the truth.
I think you need to play other games.
Square-Enix no longer has the capacity to make this game.
We have to accept it.
I have completely lost interest in this game. Square-enix are incompetent seems like the only games they can shit out these days are crappy ios ports.
It's either that or we get translated Kiseki games from XSEED. You have played Trails in the Sky, right?oh well, maybe X will build off of the success of Xenoblade and have a story more in the scale of Xenogears/Xenosaga, and I'll get my epic JRPG fix in the next 3-4 years there instead.
