DF: PS4 COD frame judder caused by frame rate HIGHER than 60fps

Can someone explain what's going on here? Is COD:G on the PS4 running beyond 60fps???

In the unpatched version it runs above 60fps a lot of the time. This is a bad thing, because the console is only outputting 60fps so some frames cannot be displayed and causes judder.

The patched version is 1080p and runs runs above 60fps much less of the time. It still happens sometimes and causes judder.

I'd be in the dick
PC version does not have object motion blur btw. Digital foundry almost has no idea how object motionblur works. The PS4 version has the same motionblur.
Oh OK. I had only seen it in PC screens and not in PS4 comparisons so I thought it was absent.

Gotcha, thanks for the input.

So is this something that's going to be fixed further? I mean, I know there was a patch...but I'm hoping there's another update to really improve the game.

I've encountered similar things on my PC before. LotRO, for example, didn't handle fast processors too well and would actually skip a frame to catch up with processor speed causing framerate stutter. It was headache inducing.

WHAT??????

no-one outisde of the US watches US basketball, US is probably the only country in the world that the sport is actually popular in.
The last time jordan was actually popular was in the early 00's he's completely dropped of the map since then.

that's like me being surprised you don't know what Jonah Lomu looks like.

Sorry to inform you but basketball is huge in China.

Uh basketball is extremely popular in many countries, especially some in asia like the phillipines and china.

Just to add a bit to the discussion, I feel that there's a disturbing lack of people in this industry that actually care about delivering a smooth, consistent gaming experience (judder and input lag being obvious flaws that are often completely ignored by developers).

Examples:

The Witcher 2 - judder
Darksiders 1/2 - massive judder (at least on PC)
Killzone 2 - input lag
Uncharted 3 - input lag, controller deadzone

I could come up with countless other examples but these ones were the first ones that came to mind. The fact that games with such large development teams without anyone really noticing or acknowledging what I consider to be pretty major issues is baffling.

Uncharted 3 didn't have significant input lag, they messed up the deadzones.

Isn't that because that kind of stuff is so variable based on peoples set-ups? Even on consoles different TVs can add input lag.

Regardless, I'm extremely excited for G-Sync to get rid of that stuff, I plan to upgrade my whole set-up based around that.

Please tell me this is a joke . Our game journalist didn't know first it was 720p and now that it was actually greater than 60fps?

Seriously . This is pathetic

You can't diagnose something like this without the very specialised equipment that Digital Foundry has. It is wrong to chastise reviewers for missing this and they were absolutely right to highlight the frame judder present in the game.

All scorn should be levelled at IW alone. Introducing frame latency issues into a console game is inexcusable.

I really really want to see what Polygon says about this once it's fixed.

Doubt they will, whether it's too many frames per second or a massive drop the end result is the same that the Xbox One version provided a smoother experience at time of review.

Although it does put that "the only thing I didn't like..." meme into hilarious literal perspective.

Lol, this is crazy. The performance was too good that it caused it to have performance issues. Never heard of that before, but Infinity Ward somehow managed to pull it off.

I asked earlier in the thread but do not think I got a response, does anyone know if DF are going to do a test on the Xbox One version?

This is with regards to engine lag alone. That is compounded with TV lag which will make the problem even worse.

In this case it would have decreased input lag.

No. Vsync always adds input lag. You're drawing a frame and waiting until the next refresh cycle to display it instead of displaying it right away.

China? Spain? France?

The only basketball players I know are ones who have appeared in videogames or wrestling, so:

Michael Jordan vs Bird
Charles Barkley shut up and JAM
Shaq-fu guy
Dennis Rodman (was at wcw ppvs)

I'm on vacation in the Philippines right now for 18 days and they LOVE the NBA. Like they have a few dedicated channels for just it. It is playing while you wait in the airports to catch your plane. Kobe Bryant endorses probably half the brands here. It is about 10 times more popular then it is in the US.

In the province alone (think country side) about half the adult males wear an NBA Jersey. There are also basketball courts everywhere, in fact just came home from dinner to a packed court lit up with lights with close to 75 people just hanging out watching a full court 5-5 game.

So yeah, this is about as accurate as saying Football (soccer for the Americans) is only popular in Europe. It just simply is not true.
