Sony has 2 new IPs coming out this year.
The last GOW came out 3 years ago.
Exactly. Console fatigue can't be a valid complaint. And if that's the only reason why it's getting those 7's then that's just a shame.
I just hope this sells well. That team deserves it.
Way more than that isn't it?
They seemed to like DmC and Metal Gear Rising just fine.
They didn't delayed anything it was known that the demo would not be up day one.i saw that they delayed the last of us demo going live on the ascension disc until 4/17. think that will drop sales initially? if that demo is not available anywhere else it will keep this game going sales-wise.
Poor Knack. Still getting ignored despite based Cerny making it.
edit: You crafty stealth editing bastard.
I dont get the "ouch" comments.
The game is getting good reviews.
I am wondering how this does sales wise. I think it will sell considerably less then GOW 3 in both the short term and long term.
But... Then it is only the second PS3 GOW so it could do more.

Then there's CoD2 on 360. That makes 8 Call of Duty's in one console generation. lol
Well I mean they have 2 that have the same money backing as games like God of War and Uncharted. And that is only counting the PS3.

Honestly, I am glad that it is getting lower scored than previous iterations. I even hope that it sells less. I love this franchise so much that I dont like that the last 2 console games have played pretty much like the first two. I loved GOW 1,2,3 and even the PSP games but it is time for a shake up. I would love for them to offer a free roaming camera, give me something other than the blades and make it just as good. Theres no reason why they couldnt do it with this game or make a prequel that predates the blood oath. Something needs to change in the franchise and SSM has too much talent to keep on making the same game 4 times with slight changes.
That said I'll be buying this one day 1 as well.
I guess so.Is 8 supposed to be bad or something?
To drive the point home, Polygon gave BLOPS2, the 8th CoD this generation, an 8 and then drops this gem into their review, essentially comparing the game to a Rolex:
"These excellent new additions are layered atop an already-refined multiplayer blueprint, which is as good as it's ever been. Black Ops 2 multiplayer feels like a Swiss watch I could never afford."
http://www.polygon.com/game/call-of-duty-black-ops-2/2217
For BLOPS2, a few changes are innovation, making the game a "Rolex". For GoW, changes do nothing to a fatigued franchise.
It's something I've never understood. Nintendo cranks out carbon copies of their main franchises every year, other companies do the same. Like Gears of War, or Halo.
God of War always gets pinned on the fatigue. Even though GoW: Ascension is a far bigger change than any of those games have seen this gen period.

I don't believe fatigue to be the issue, clearly it's a case of taking the series in a wrong direction. Plenty a time a prequel will fall on it's arse, no one wanted a prequel, no one asked for a prequel and yet we still got one.
See also Gears of War.
Maybe in one case they felt like the changes were enough to freshen things up but not in the other case. The number of games in the series is only one part of the equation. To drive the point home, Polygon gave BLOPS2, the 8th CoD this generation, an 8 and then drops this gem into their review, essentially comparing the game to a Rolex:

I own every game in the series and I basically feel the same way. The same goes for the Gears: Judgment. Am I unfit to review either game?sigh, Games Journalism:
Why did this guy review it?

What does that have to do with anything? It's not like his review is out of line with the rest of the reviews.
Give it a rest.

Tons and tons of people were saying the same thing on GAF when Ascension was first announced. The surprise at the opinion baffles me, quite frankly. But it's true, honestly who wanted a prequel?
LOL What?
(PS2) God of War II - 2007
(PS3) God of War III - 2010
(PS3) God of War: Ascension - 2013
It's been 3 years since the last game and 6 since the last PS2 GoW. Not understanding how people are tired of the franchise.

Bullshit. You don't see mainline Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Smash Bros. or Pokemon games every year.
I haven't played the demo yet, is the combat improved at all from the other games in the series? I have always felt it to be the weakest in the genre compared to Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden and now Metal Gear Rising.

This is all based on opinion, you're free to disagree with it.

To me it is because of the gameplay. GOW games have become bigger, better and more and more epic, but it plays almost identically as the first one. I for one could not get past GOW3. Stoped after the intro, when the massive sense of scale and eye-candy amazement worn out. Judging by Ascension's demo, as beautiful as it looks (honestly, Santa Monica deserves an award or something for this aspect of the game. It looks phenomenal, almost unbelievable), the gameplay and generally game progression is still the same, which totally kills any residual interest I could still have in this game.

High score or low score if a reviewer is bad it does not matter.
Are you saying the franchises you mentioned don't get accused of milking? Because they do.
Was Zeus not realistic enough when we turned his head to paste? Or when we just ripped off Helios's head and use it as a lantern? This is silly. From the Polygon review: "The brutal, bone-shattering assault on a realistic female avatar was horrific regardless of its context, the imagery too loaded for me to shrug it off as just another God of War Moment TM. And then the assault was robbed of any narrative impact whatsoever by a throwaway story device. It didn't matter. I had to watch it happen and then it didn't mean anything. And then approximately 45 seconds later, I unlocked a trophy called "Bros before Hos."
Christ.
