It Sony really wanted to do this upgrade why not just build a PS4 that's capable of running 1080p 60fps? 4K TVs aren't even main stream in 2016. By the time the actual PS5 comes out 4K may be main stream.
2 years from now will be 5 years from the launch of the PS4 and Xbone.
That's a whole console generation.
Yeah, I do in fact wonder if we'll even see a PS5 in that sense - that the games for it would only work on it and no other older hardware. I actually doubt it (and it's a good thing).
kill your system when it's on track to sell 100 million brehs
Lol it's just funny seeing some of the same faces, but with completely different tones.
I guess some dont get it, with x86 it will be like a high spec pc and a low spec pc, both play the same games but a different graphics quality.
Nothing will be fragmented.
I meant maximum 2 years, as in, theres no way these boxes are lasting a day over 5 years from release
I could see Xbox+/PS5 in 2017
We really need to get over the money thing, its ridiculous
After 4 years of having the console and PS Plus, the platform costs you like 600 bucks
You are basically spending the same amount of money on Netflix than you do on Playstation.
We are getting our moneys worth, find any other medium that has such a low cost:time ratio. We play our consoles for thousands of hours.

So MS is not wrong anymore?
But I thought the point of consoles WAS to last around that time, without needing to upgrade for years and years. If the problem is that consoles become completely obsolete and underpowered months after they hit shelves and if the only way for developers to develop games is for the hardware to improve on a yearly-two yearly basis then traditional consoles are obsolete not only as hardware but as an idea and have no reason to exist.
Sales are solid enough, but it's been such an underwhelming generation.
Take the defensiveness on GAF earlier last week when Microsoft publicly stated their plans about multiplatform Xbox and iterative hardware.
Then hold it up against what some people in this thread are saying.
It's really quite disturbing.
Sony Too circa 2013 all over again.
I have zero doubt that some developers (which ones? Indie devs? Major devs? Devs who've worked with Sony before? Devs who are making PS VR games now?) have said this and I have zero doubt that Kotaku may have heard this and is reporting on it.
So for the people who feel this is bullshit, what would you do if it turns out not to be bullshit?

When they release a new console, the old one's won't be replaced. They are still the same.
But he was just "joking" guys
4k gaming? lol.....that would be really expensive for the console market right now. I'll abandon the console space and upgrade my PC if this is true.
So MS is not wrong anymore?
agreed
People will still say they're wrong, but Sony is right
Nah guys, c'mon. It's not going to have the driving power to run modern AAA games at 4K.
agreed
I don't understand why releasing a new console every two years or so wouldn't work. Couldn't it just be like on PC, where the games visuals are just changed depending on the hardware that it's being run on?
Lol it's just funny seeing some of the same faces, but with completely different tones.
Not really. Two companies are rumored to be employing the EXACTY SAME STRATEGY. How can the implications be polar opposite?
People were saying MS was leaving consoles because that's what they wanted to believe, not because it made any sense.

People are latching too much on the 4k part imo. Sony are probably just telling devs its POSSIBLE to go that high on a more simple game. In other words the horsepower is there if they want to do that.
But what we likely see is a universal 1080p 60fps from this. Which would be fantastic
I'm still kind of in shock that so many are ignoring how much of an improvement 4k games are.
That shit isn't PS4.5
Thats straight next gen. Hence why I don't believe this rumor at all.
Seriously good points.
Will the PS4.5 be powerful enough to run with AF on?
I would say the Xbox One doing a complete reversal was a fiasco. And if you knew he broke that story then you surely would have understood what I meant and needn't have tried to correct me.
