Yeah I'd say that Higurashi characters aren't considered this due to reasons. Also a reminder to people who haven't been paying attention watch the new branch of Higurashi: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Outbreak.

I think they'd be considered yangire since their psychotic actions do not stem from romance. Their expressions are just interchangeable with yanderes because that's where you most see faces like that

Thanks for the explanation and rec. I don't think I've seen additional Higurashi series other than the original. I really should catch up even though I'm kind of aware of the entire plotline somewhat.

But most of the time they're simply terrifying and twisted. The girls from School Days were not funny at all. Shouko from Baka and Test was a funny yandere since she hurts Yuuji in funny ways and does not turn twisted. I only like the funny yandere.

Part of the appreciation is morbid. Especially if we're talking about School Days.

That sort of appreciation requires divorcing your real world sense of self from the experience of watching though, yeah. I mean, hanging around someone like Kotonoha (even though the MC of School Days broke her) would be an awful idea considering how School Days played out, but the fun is in the crazy.

Think of it like watching one of the Looney Tunes or Tom and Jerry cartoons.

Some of the later seasons beyond Rei aren't too great and are mostly silly, but Outbreak is an offshoot from the original and retains the same dynamic but with new possibilities. There is a good episode in Kira regarding Rika though but pretty much the offshoots that came after Rei are trash and non-canon.

Someone remind me when there's a Let's Play of this. I thought that bird school dating sim was pretty cool.

The backlog is bigger than I thought

PantyBlade II: Gotta Touch'em All and that Underage PanyQuest series... WTF??? Does the fact that the titles are in English mean they're localized? Or is this common in Japan?

This doesn't really look like your typical visual novel. Then again, I don't have a ton of experience with visual novels, so maybe it is.

I started a thread on their Game Request forums.

Who knows? Maybe they were already planning on bringing it over.

As I was reading the blurbs in the first post all I was thinking was that the character art pleased me. Enter second post and woah, finally the yandere hell!
I want this game (localized into a language I can understand).

Felix the cat and that mouse from The Sympson would be a more accurate example, but I get the point.

I understand the yandere character; I just never understood why people like them so much. Then again, there are many fetishes I don't get, like those school swimsuits. I tried Strike Witches since it seemed popular, but 5 episodes was my limit. WTF was that?

I like them because there interesting to watch. I like to see why they have the mindset they have, what was the trigger for them going insane, why did they fall for the guy that they did, and what the outcome will be. For something like a tsundere, its mostly that the girl will be passive aggressive and abusive towards the person she likes. There's usually no explanation, they just do it because they don't like to show their true feelings.

That's mostly the reason I prefer them. They're one of the more interesting types of romantic interests in manga/anime,

They are all localized.

Hell, you can see their localized titles on the very box arts there.

The image is stupid and wrong anyway.

Oh, cool. Anything to get this noticed by people who have the capacity to bring it over.

I'm rather surprised that this isn't a Vita game as well, but maybe I shouldn't be (not too familiar with the console/handheld VN market in Japan other than all those PSP ones they still get).

It's more a user base thing, and the PS3 has the much larger one in Japan. That being said, there are many ADVs that do take the PS3+Vita, or even 360+PSP release approach.

They're not the actual titles lol. On the box art you see Atelier, etc.

Haha fuck me then. No wonder that Neptunia box looked like Neptunia. I'm on my phone, so the image is kind of small and jumped straight to the title on the bottom of each. I think this thread is starting to affect me.

Kanna Toutoumi (CV: Tomoi Isomura) - A quiet, cool beauty, she is the club chief. She's smart and the #1 ranked person in the high school class. She also has a complex about her breast size. She is the one who came up with the design for the mascot.

Oh oh oh this one, I like this one. Scroll down some, see shes holding a knife.......well I guess It's School Days all over again. Hope it gets localized, don't care what platform I'd buy it day one

For such a 'specialist' game as this, having only 3 main girls is fine. If you're running with a reoccurring personality theme, using a larger number of (inevitably) less developed routes increases the risk of the characters feeling / becoming repetitive.

For me, only if Kurumi Tokisaki appears in that Yandere Paradise.
