'The Last of Us: Remastered' coming to PS4, July 2014, [1080p, targeting 60 fps]

Well it's based on a real thing that affects insects, so it technically did start there before jumping to humans in the game.

That's the most delicious looking ant I've ever seen. Caramel with white chocolate anyone?

Are you suggesting that once the condyceps had infected humans, the original strain died out? Isn't it more likely that both strains would continue?

Truth be told I don't know, I don't think the original strain will die out. There are over 400 different strains of cordyceps in the world so I imagine they all have a healthy enough ecosystem to thrive in. Cordyceps seem to be population control rather than extinction.

Actually there are thousands of types of cordyceps and each specialise on just one species, It's not just ants, all sorts of insects fall victim to them.

Well ... that was the point I was making. There is no reason why infected animals can't appear in TLOU.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be 1080/60 with improved AA and textures. On TV, in motion it'll look like a big upgrade but screens and poorly compressed 30fps vids will likely make it look too similar to the PS3 version. Probably a real pain for them to figure out.

It sure will be hard for ND. I'm okay with them showing no footage. It'll turn out fine, just like you said: 1080/60 with improved AA and textures.

It's not, though. I'm sure there will be some minor improvements to the lighting/shadows/textures they mentioned but the truth is throwing up a YouTube video won't come close to doing it justice since the main upgrades are framerate and resolution, both things that YT will butcher.

There was a perfectly good comparison of the Tomb Raider re-release. This is a massive title and all they've showed us a spoiler filled cut scene compilation. I'd re-buy it even if the changes are relatively minor, I'm just extremely eager to see it

I hope people's expectations are in check. The main draw for me is replaying my personal GOTY of 2013 in a refined and "perfected" manner.

Less jaggies, better framerate, better textures, and all the technical fixes necessary to help it shine. This is about as good as this game will look this generation without major alterations and is a great way to help keep the game relevant with the times.

Not sure what else people are expecting. The game isn't being redesigned from the ground up for PS4.

Hence why it's called a Remaster. It's the most accurate descriptor for it. It's essentially a blu-ray release of a movie you have on DVD.

Isn't the lighting supposed to be way better?

This is what needs to be in the OP for perspective...

Nevertheless for hardcore guys that already beat the title 2 or 3 times, I would imagine the new MP would be a big purchasing factor, as well as welcoming last gen 360-only guys and starting a brand new TLOU community on PS4.

Very interested in how this performs in sales.

Anyone think it'll add another million to LTS?

Predictions for me, I think TLOU will hit 10 million for both platforms over this gen...BOOM!

Hmm guess I was right! I knew if TLoU went gold, a new thread would of been made to hype this up even more lol.

Honestly as a fan of the game, its weird that ND/SONY are quiet on this one.

They already said they'll have lots of marketing money behind it. It just hasn't started yet.
Since everyone knows the game and the gameplay there really is no need to start advertising months before release.

Agreed. Better to condense the ads right before release than burn the money way before. People are already hyped without anything.

In regards to marketing, I feel like this game is big enough that it basically markets itself.

"Hey remember that game that won every award in 2013? It's better now and on PS4, go buy it."

It's like marketing the Godfather or Star Wars blu ray remasters:

Step 1. Announce it
Step 2. Release it
Step 3. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Still no gameplay trailer or screeshots? WTH Soooony!!!

Thats what ND wrote on the blog when they announced the ps4 version:

Moving our efforts to the PS4 has allowed us to remaster an already phenomenal looking The Last of Us in 1080p with a list of upgrades including higher resolution character models, improved shadows and lighting, upgraded textures, along with even more improvements. We love setting challenging technical hurdles for us when working on each game – and this is no different. We’ve been working hard on The Last of Us Remastered to release a next-gen evolution worthy of the 200+ Game of the Year awards, not to mention the acclaim and expectations of our fans. We will be revealing more detailed information about the upgrades for the PS4 version in the coming months.

I´m still waiting guys - two weeks left to show us all "the upgrades". I`m really eager to see the allegedly "next gen evolution".

You keep waiting, we TLOU true believers know what to expect... and it's going to be fucking glorious.

Two weeks.

Edit- Someone needs to post a gif of that scene in Total Recall of the fat lady shouting two weeks, hehe.

There's been a disturbing lack of Raptor lately.

Did he wind up in a hospital due to something getting shoved up his ass at the rate of 60fps?
